F. W. Kent Park

Unique mix of RV and  tent  sites in a variety of sizes.  Some close together would be good for groups and some remote.  One shower room with flush toilets near entrance  but vault toilets and water available throughout park.  No other  services. 

Pleasant stay, quiet campground 

Our family enjoys tent camping at Kent Park because the sites are grassy and open, but more private than many Midwest campgrounds because they are lined with tall prairie grasses and trees. We stayed during an Iowa Football weekend, attended the game in nearby Iowa City, and then enjoyed the rest of our weekend exploring the ponds and trails in the park. Prairie life makes for good photo ops and bird-watching. Restrooms and campsites were clean and well maintained. We will definitely be back!

Nice Midwest Campground off I-80

This is a very convenient campground if driving cross country. Very clean and easy. Loads of fairly private spots in a rolling twisty loop.

Find your zen


Loved Kent park for camping. They currently have their lake drained. Estimated to be filled some time summer 2019, unknown If they will stock fish. There are so many camp sites it's nice to not have rowdy neighbors right on top of you. The park is huge and you could easily get lost. Only downfall is the gates are locked at 10pm so if you needed to come or go, you're stuck.

Peaceful and quiet 

Driving cross country, this was my favorite campground. I had a large, private site that had a mowed path leading to the lake. The large lake is beautifully landscaped with walking bridges made from recycled iron and memorial trees of many varieties. There is about a two mile trail circumventing the entire lake. I was there in early October so the weather was too chilly to use the nice beach. Great shower house. 

Stay Here  

Plenty of campsite offerings with good amenities. Paddling, fishing, hiking, swimming, to name a few. Firewood available. Conservation education center open seasonally with programs offered. Forest, prairie, wetland habitats. Not far from town for quick trip if needed.

Well Maintained, natural area with good amenties

This campground is one of the prettiest we've stayed at, but had its limitations, too.

Pros:

*   Sites are very, very spacious. It's easy to keep to yourself. 
*   Doesn't have a party vibe, if you're into peace and quiet
*   The park is HUGE. Lots to see, many spots to have a picnic or hike around
*   Wildflowers EVERYWHERE. So pretty.
*   Really close to the Amana Colonies
*   Seems to be a hidden gem—the park was only about half full the entire weekend we were there
*   The beach is pretty nice
*   The lake is quiet, which makes it excellent for kayaking
*   Overall the park is very well maintained
*   Pretty bridges all around the lake. We enjoyed getting to read their history as well.

Cons:

*   Many of the sites have large gravel pads and are on a hill, which means it would be difficult for tent campers and campers/RVs will have a difficult time leveling
*   $20 a night is quite expensive
*   The park closes and gates lock at 10:30, so you're stuck if you need to get out/in
*   Water access is weak for campers/RVs
*   You can't reserve your spot in advance, although we had no issue getting a spot.

Gorgeous But Not For Tent Campers

This park is a great place for a quick getaway.  Quiet and not a million sites.  Wifi is nice with plenty to do throughout the park.  One of my local favorite places.
