Shorts Bar Recreation Site

This spot is for tent campers and maybe some pop-up trailers. It is dry camping and they do have some restrooms in the area. Nice sandy beaches for those that want to relax near the roaring sound of the river. Great salmon and smallmouth fishing upstream or downstream. Downstream is the confluence of the Salmon River and the Little Salmon River near the town of Riggins, ID. There is an Elk Farm on the other side of the road up the hill from the campsites. During the rut season (fall) you can hear their bugles echo through the canyon. If you are an experienced paddler, you can kayak this stretch of the Salmon River. Just be careful of the fishing boats that can sometimes cruise through this stretch at high speeds. Some parts of the season, the campsites can fill up. It is first come, first serve. Pack out what you pack in and keep the site clean :-)

This is a busy site, lots of paddler traffic, but does make for a nice evening by the river. Bonus elk farm on the ridge, at the right season you might hear them bugle.

Several vault toilets, even an ADA one.

If you have dogs, be sure to check them for ticks. We found a few here.

Nice river site

We stopped here on our way back from Boise to Spokane after picking up our camper in mid-February. A few others pulled in for the night, but still plenty of space. The wind swirled at night, but the rain was nice. There are a couple of spots where you can stay for longer, but mostly good for an overnight.

Great Night

Stopped for a night between Coeur D’Alane and Boise. There are lots of spots along this route to stop. The difference here is you have some wifi being in Riggins. Huge area with the ability to fit rigs of all sizes.

If your just going for a day trip to the hot springs it's ok. Camping not so much, the photos tell you everything. They haven't but money into this place since inception. Very sad. Only 6 viable spots with one of those next to the bathroom and garage cans. We got (lucky) and were at the end next to the highway.
