The roomier, deluxe Pond View Cottage has extra amenities and an outstanding view of the pond. 

Named for its centerpiece, the 66-acre Killens Pond, this state park features a waterpark, various watercraft rentals, and the popular Pondside Loop Trail. The Lenape people once lived here, and the pond was created when the Murderkill River was dammed to power grist and sawmills. It is now home to a variety of fish, including bass, crappie, and sunfish. The new state-of-the-art elevated boardwalk allows pedestrians and bikers a safe passage along Killens Pond Road while benches and bump-outs allow for wildlife watching and fishing. Kayakers and boaters can launch from the boat launch at the far end of the walkway. The waterpark features four tall slides, a main pool and baby pool, and a tot lot. The campground provides a reprieve in the woods and Delaware’s State tree, the American Holly, is plentiful. Visitors to the park’s nature center can see live animal exhibits that feature native reptiles and amphibians. The Pileated Woodpecker, Prothonotary Warbler, and Barred Owl can often be heard in the woods at the park.

Killens Pond State Park Campground

We had a great last camping trip of the season at this State Park. There are 6 loops with 10 sites in each and then a primitive camp area. The loops are small and sites are close but I didn’t feel cramped and many sites were angled in a way that you weren’t staring at your neighbors camper or tent. We were in D 05 and had a view of the pond through the fall foliage. Our relatives had site 02 and felt cramped but I thought it was fine. All sites had electric and water! The trail around the lake was awesome with some slight inclines but mostly flat. There were short spurs to scenic spots of the pond. Total walked was 4 miles. The trail is just behind the loops so it was easy access. There was a Nature center that was beautiful. They offer boat rentals but that was closed. There was a hayride and bonfire on Saturday night but we didn’t go. A very large field is across from the loops where kids could play. Bathhouses were large with 4 stalls and 4 showers. Firewood is sold at entrance $6/bundle. Store was small. Staff was very friendly. I took pics and video of loop D only. 

Relaxing and beautiful

We stayed in one of the cabins for thanksgiving and had a wonderful time. They are cozy but very comfortable! Being a walk-in there was very little foot traffic when we were outside and the pond is quite close! The walks round the lake is a great way to get out and wander for a bit too

Thanksgiving getaway

Campground is quite big and basic . Sites are large and shaded . Bathrooms are basic showers are ok but hot water is limited at times. People are pleasant . Water park gets filled to capacity very quick . Paddle boats are reasonable. Can’t swim only in water park but only 20/40 minutes to beaches . Trails around pond are taken care of quite well .

Basic state park with trails

My son absolutely loved this place. There’s anything and everything you could think of available to keep everyone busy. A water park, volley ball field, playgrounds, amphitheater, nature center, nature trails, and boat rentals at the lake.

It is a huge park, with secluded spots available for tent camping, cabins, and regular open spaces for camping rvs with electric hook up. Staff was friendly, campgrounds were well kept. It can get a little crowded but it’s worth it to stay. If you don’t like crowds, I suggest coming during the week days!

Great for kids!

Pros: this campground was nice and clean, with decent amenities (including FREE hot showers!). I stayed there on a Saturday, and walked in without a reservation and was able to get a site. They had a few ranger-led events that night that I was able to partake in (a hay ride for a small fee, and a night hike that was free). They were both enjoyable, and everyone that worked there that I encountered was very pleasant.

Cons: the sites are pretty close together with no real trees or privacy in between, at least where I was located. So, I would stay here again for a night if I was passing through, but I wouldn't make this place a 'destination.'

Nice for a short visit

Overview: shaded spots that are wonderfully cool during 80 and 90 degree heat, fun and inexpensive water park, various types of boats to rent and well marked trails.


Site: our site was A9 and it was covered by trees with very level dirt. It's an RV site with electric and water and a fire ring. The fire ring was a decent size but the grate / grill is very low to the fire and it was made difficult to cook on the much lower grill than maybe a higher one would have been. This site and the one next to it (site A9) are the closest to the port-a-potties. This does mean that people may walk through or right near your site to get to them, but everyone around us was in an RV and it wasn't an issue. This site is also the closest to the playground. You can't hear the kids on the playground, but it's close enough to be able to send them in a group and call for them. 


Bathroom: the bathrooms include two port-a-potties and a bathhouse, not near each other. All were well maintained when we arrived, but by the end of the holiday weekend you could tell they had been utilized a lot. The bathhouse has showers which do have hot water and have a button you push. The showers are relatively small, but do have one hook on the interior to hook a bag or your clothes. 


Amenities:

Boat rentals - we rented a paddle boat, which was $6 for a half hour. Each paddle boat holds 4 and are easy to use. They also have canoes and kayaks to rent.

Nature center - the upper level of the nature center has a few herps in cages to view and an interactive touch screen. The lower level has a small room that has coloring pages and a video for kids. 

Waterpark - the water park is great and had something for everyone. The area for the younger kids has two small pile and various slides and water features. The larger pool has a lily pad obstacle course, a small slide and more water features. There are also for larger slides of various speeds. There is a concession stand with really good, but overpriced food, but most waterpark food is overpriced. The worst thing about this park is consistently the bathrooms. We ended up leaving earlier than intended due to the state of the bathrooms. 


PROS: 

Shaded! It was 92 one of the days we were tent camping and our spot was nice and cool

Quiet campground

Nice hiking trails that are well marked, easy to hike even for a 3 year old


CONS:

Some sites are very close together or are basically surrounded by other sites (Loop C and Loop E)


Have stayed here before and will stay here again.

Shaded and fun!

We went camping at Killens pond for the first time a few weeks ago.  We camped in the G loop. Lots of woods for the kids to play in. Easy walk to the shower/bath house. The camp host was super nice and made sure that we had everything we needed.  Great place to take your family for an outdoor adventure. Hiking,  fishing, biking. They also have kayaking and peddle boats. We will definitely be back!

Tent Camping 

The G loop for tents is nice and removed from the rv area, though the sites are a little close. There are trails nearby and you can cross the bridge to the canoe/kayak rental area, or launch your own from a dock at the campsite. We had a peaceful night and a fun kayak day! 

Of note, there were a LOT of granddaddy longlegs at the campground when we went that we had to keep chasing off our things. But that’s camping!

Nice primitive pond camping

Not a huge fan.  The park seemed nice but the campground was a clay, dirt, sand, silt surface with ravines from rain.   I spent hours trying to get sand out the camper days after my exit.  Deep clean your shoes as the sand is tough to remove.

Not a blade of grass on the over trampled grounds.  Sites are close, and watch your shins for the water spigot 18 inches above the ground just outside the driver door when you get out of your truck at night.  I may have awakened the campground with curses.  Very tight, cramped, spots.

Positives were a a gook hiking trail, beautiful pond.  There were comments from others on a cold shower, but hit the button and wait for a few minutes, it will get better.

Expect sand in your camper

A-F loop are for RV campers. There is one bathroom/shower facility in the middle. If you’re an RTT camper, you won’t have anywhere to use the restroom privately because the sites are so close together. You could walk to the bathroom, but that means walking to the road and across. It’s not convenient. Once it’s dark, sure, you can pee on a tree. But in the morning, count on spectators!

Also, this place is BUGGY! It’s been a while since I’ve been inundated with so many bugs, and we camp 2-3 times a month.

Not for rooftop tenters!

Delaware seemed short on camping options and this one was probably top of the line 40 years ago. It's dated in every way, but it's in a good spot.

  

Seemed to have some residents mixed in. Everyone was quite and kept to themselves. Not friendly, but not troublesome wither.

  

Cell service was good.

Would Have Been 3 Stars But the Camp Host Was Great

As others have said, sites are tight, only one bathhouse…which was dirty and outdated. There are a ton of people, including tent sites, sharing one bath house. They do have porta pots but they are gross!! Lots of sand and flys. Also beware of the squirrels! They will eat through anything, including outdoor storage containers to get to food. They will destroy your things. 

We did however enjoy the kayaks and the water park which we thought were very enjoyable for the kids. They also had great trails if you enjoy running!

Needs some updating

So not going to do 5 stars, but I will absolutely give a 4.9... we only had about one full day of time to be THERE, as days 1-3 were travel days. All that being said, the few staff we had the pleasure of speaking with, were polite and helpful... that isn't to say they were not present, but they were busy keeping the place together  and cleaned up... 
Overall, it was a pleasant experience where we could enjoy a chill woodsy environment, camp fire, field away from light pollution where we could enjoy the night time view of the of the galaxy and the some.... and relatively above average cleanliness for the bathrooms. So honestly, I'm goinna give the benefit of the doubt, of one short visit, that our next will be just as enjoyable.
