This designated dispersed camping area along County Road 10 has 23 sites.

Not adhering to camping duration maximums or using U.S. Forest land for residential purposes could result in a citation from the U.S. Forest Service.

Regulations pertaining to designated dispersed camping are as follows:

Camp only in designated sites.

No camping at trailheads.

Food and garbage must be properly secured in bear-resistant containers or inside vehicles in sealed containers.

Pack out all waste: human, garbage, paper, organics, etc.

There are many dispersed camping opportunities in the forest ranging from backpacking to car-camping along designated Forest Roads. Visitors are encouraged to minimize resource impacts by utilizing established sites rather than creating new ones. Dispersed camping sites along Forest Roads are shown on Motor Vehicle Use Maps, which are available free of charge at ranger district offices.At the start of the tour you immediately have spectacular views of the Blue River Valley and the majestic Tenmile Range. The road, managed by Summit County, follows the old South Park and Pacific Railroad bed, climbing on a gradual 3% grade. The road climbs past Bakers Tank to the summit of Boreas Pass at the Continental Divide. The road then continues down the other side of Boreas Pass for another 10.4 miles to the town of Como in Park County. From 1872 to 1938 the road was used as a narrow-gauge railroad and gained fame as the nation’s highest narrow-gauge railroad, running from Como to Breckenridge. This is a great road to view Fall colors.  This road is open to highway legal vehicles only during May-October, and closed to motorized vehicle access seasonally at Summit County discretion, generally October to May.

Boreas Pass Road Designated Dispersed Camping

This this is a long Winding Road up the mountain that has many nice places to pull over and Camp right off the road. Some are a bit further back than others. Most are accessible to any vehicle. Further on up the mountain you will find the remanence of an old train stop, cabin, train car... It's all free but there's been a fire ban all summer.

Easy access roadside campsites, nice views.

Found this spot at about 7PM on a Friday night near the Breckenridge end of the Boreas Pass Trail (39.451441,-106.014294). The spot does have a fire ring but was unable to use it as a fire ban was in place at the time. Could hear some occasional traffic noise as cars were leaving the trail. Temperature got down to 16 degrees that night. Altitude is about 10,600 feet at this site.

There are amazing views along this road, and many places to pull over and set up camp. We arrived on a Sunday around 5 and had no trouble finding a private spot. The GPS coordinates do not take you to campgrounds, so don’t depend on that. Just drive until you find something that’s calling to you. Only downside is that there were a million mosquitoes, but thats probably the case everywhere right now. 

Beautiful place to camp

I pulled in late Saturday evening. Most spots taken the first few miles up the pass. I finally found a spot not far from the summit near the Black powder trail trailhead. I was still under the trees. I was nervous I would not find a spot, but it worked out. Pack in and pack out people! Leave the spot better than you found it. I’ll be back here for sure. And be better about my timing. 

Oh and was greeted by a stealth moose while I was eating my breakfast. I think we both equally startled each other and then minded our space. 

Gorgeous Pass

Arrived to the pass around noon on Saturday, and had no problems finding a place to camp. Many people just park in the pull offs to the side of the road and sleep there but there are actual more secluded sites as well. Drove here in my Ram Promaster van. Road was definitely doable for any 2wd vehicle, very tame. Phone was getting 1 bar of verizon service with our signal booster. Would stay here again👌🏽

a perfect place to post up

We just needed a place to crash in our campervan and we try to find places that offer a view. There were plenty of open spots on the side of the road. The spot we found overlooked the mountains and had a little makeshift fire ring (which we didn’t use obviously). Only a few minutes from Main St, it was perfect for what we were looking for. 

Super easy 

The camping location had an absolutly beautiful view. I had to drive about half hour to 45 mins into the national forest to find it, but I found quite a few spots with awesome views.

This is a meat and potatoes dispusred camp ground. Closed during the winter and about 10 degrees colder than Brek when weather planning. Fun place all the way to como. I drove a Nissan camper van the whole way with a trailer. I saw every kind of car on the road so easy (a little rough in some places) drive the whole way  

Great place to post up is right  

Besides the night before in a walmart parking lot this was our first ever stop in our Van. It was absolutely stunning and ignited a passion. We stayed at one of the pull off stops on the road and loved every minute. 

Breath taking

Only a quick drive outside of Breckenridge. Free campsites pretty much everywhere. No water or bathrooms it is all dispersed. Pack your things in and out please. Keep this place beautiful! Opens in late may/early July depending on the snow season

Great free camping outside breckenridge

Nice quick stay outside of Breckinridge. Pullouts are pretty tight so best for vans type camping. Maybe larger sites further up the mountain. Plenty of keep traffic, mountain and e-bikes. Enjoyed the views! Would stay again. 

Sweet Views, Road Traffic

Amazing views. Roadside pull off areas. Mostly one lane dirt, can be tight and bumpy. Best for truck camper, small RV or tent. Don't get discouraged if the 1st spots are full just keep driving. They get better as you go...

Dispersed Road side pull off camping

The views were amazing! We pulled in when it was kinda cloudy but woke up in a mountain wonderland! The road to it is a bit rough but we were also pulling our camper trailer. Free of charge &amp; totally worth it! 

We were bummed to see so much trash around the spot we pulled over and I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir here but... PLEASE LEAVE IT BETTER THAN YOU FOUND IT ✌🏻

Perfect for the Night

At this time of year the aspens were perfect and I drove from Brekenridge to Como and every bit was amazing. Stayed 2 very cold nights about 33 degrees. It's a bumpy ride, lots of potholes but I have a 1999 chevy malibu and it made it no problems. Favorite camp site of my trip so far!

What a drive!

It a great place to car camp I spent 3 nights there. A few people drive by and come for walks. Very quiet. They were closing for the season this morning when I was leaving. 

Beautiful nights over Breckenridge.

I am new to camping.  I really wanted to stay at a normal camping. I went to Breckenridge and they  have no paid Campgrounds available so I searched on Facebook and found this place. I found this on Dyrt too as a dispersed camping. The road was narrow at some places and has a dirt road so be careful with oncoming traffic. So far is not too hard drive for a beginner mountain driver I saw many SUV coming up.  I was confused about the signs as somebody told me on Facebook that you can't camp at the tent signs with a number so I left, but down the road  I asked other campers and they said, YES you can. I came back to this spot as I really loved it ..small but got shades and I the left of the road I see her rocks. The other side has trees and you can see through a littlebit towards the big mountains. 
So people said:  The sign and the number  just shows you, you are at the right designated spot. I trusted them and came back ;) 

Boreas pass ,road 10 from Breckenridge to Como Colorado

Very nice views and accessible to Breck. Many folks park alongside the road (not in designated spots, which are far up the pass) with no issues. 

Great accessibility to Breck

Got there at 5p on Fridays. Lots of dispersed sites still available. We stayed at 4. When we left in the morning all of the sites on the way in and undesignated spots on the road were occupied, so it definitely filled up! Gets nice and dark and cold at night. 

Pretty & easily accessible from Breck

Boreas Pass has great dispersed camping for different sized groups. We camped at site #5 which accodated two vehicles but if needed to could probably accomodate up to five vehicles. This campsite was about a five minute walk to Baker's Tank. You can also access Baker's Tank trailhead after walking to the actual tank from the campsite. Be mindful if you decide to hike/bike Baker's Tank loop because it will spit you out at the very bottom of Boreas Pass which you then have to hike/bike back up to your campsite.

Site #5

I stayed here on a Tuesday night. There were many open spots, each with a fire ring and a beautiful view. I drove way past the water tank and It looked like the sites were more private and spacious. Gets chilly at night, mosquitos weren’t too bad. I heard water, so I walked for about ten minutes down the mountain and found a beautiful little stream. Will definitely stay here again next time I pass through Breckinridge. 

Beautiful mountain road with many sites

Seems like a very popular spot on the outskirts of breck. Stayed here 1 night and it was great! Also, saw a small/baby moose within the first 30 seconds of us parking in our spot. 

Planning on camping here again in the next few days.

Great spot!

We stayed 3 days &amp; nights here and it was stunning! We chose a spot near the end of the road thinking traffic would be less busy but we were wrong. Insane traffic and dust on Sunday especially. Since the aspens a
had almost all dropped leaves &amp; it was very cold at night we thought it would be less busy, but we were very wrong. The spot itself was perfect, flat, dry and a well established fire pit. Gorgeous views 10 ft from our camp. First night our car was cased a few times, heard people pulling on the door handles—never experienced this at dispersed camping in my life. It was around 2-3am and very unnerving. Views 10/10, vibes 4/10
