Great spot!

We were on our way to upper Lena, and stopped to check out lower as well. Pretty busy, but it is summer! Beautiful place to visit!

Easy, yet rewarding!

Lena Lake campground offers a rewarding view after a steady climb up meandering switchbacks. Started at the trailhead around 6 pm and made it to the campground around dusk. We were pleased to be greeted by a couple of somewhat overly friendly mountain goats on the way, and saw fish surface for bugs on the lake as the sun went down. There are several campgrounds surrounding the lake, complete with locking bathrooms (no flush toilets or water). The only downside is that this lake can attract a lot of campers on weekends, so if you go on a Friday night bring enough trail mix to share!

Lena lake

If you don't make it to the upper lena lake, that's ok! Lena lake itself is just as beautiful on its own. You will need a parking pass if parking at trail head!

Lena Lake campground

This is a hike-in campground down a 3.5 mile trail. It sees heavy use from locals on the weekend. There was plenty of room during the week when I was there. Lena Lake is quiet and serene and the perfect place to sit on a log and journal. Other people walked around the edge of the lake but care must be taken as it's a bit rugged. Follow the leave no trace principles and this place will be one to return to again for yourself and others.

Quiet and lush Lena lakes campground

Great hiking trails. The road and campground can experience washouts certain times of the year. Very clean, natural, mossy green campground. Beautiful and quiet with some great dispersed camping nearby.

Lower and Upper: Spring and Winter

Visited in the spring of 2015. The hike to lower Lena Lake is good for a day trip but rather short for an overnight backpacking trip in my opinion. It's on the Olympic peninsula so be prepared to drive and experience some rain. We set up camp at the lower lake then hiked up to the upper. It was incredible really, because while lower Lena was in full on spring upper Lena was still locked in the grip of winter. I recommend this hike for beginner and intermediate hikers as a potential introduction to the Olympic peninsula.
