Eufaula Lake

Overview

Porum Landing Campground sits along the beaches of Eufaula Lake in the green hills of Oklahoma.

Recreation

Eufaula Lake has long been recognized for its outstanding fishing. Crappie, sand bass, catfish, and black bass in the lake reach record size. Below the dam, striped bass reaching over 40 pounds have been caught in the tailwaters. Boating and Kayaking are also popular activities, and a boat ramp is provided at the campground for easy lake access. A variety of hiking trails wind throughout the hills and along the shoreline, offering additional activities for campers.

Facilities

Porum Landing Campground offers 49 campsites spread out along the lake shore, along with one large reservable group picnic shelter that can accommodate up to 100 guests. A boat ramp, playground and nearby marina help visitors enjoy the lake.

Natural Features

Eufaula Lake is the largest lake located entirely in the state of Oklahoma. It is located on the Canadian River, 27 miles upstream from its confluence with the Arkansas River. The dam, completed in 1964 and dedicated by President Lyndon B. Johnson, was originally built for flood control. With over 600 miles of shoreline and 102,000 surface acres of water, Eufaula Lake offers a variety of recreational opportunities. The shoreline ranges from vast expanses of sandy beaches to rocky bluffs, and the scenery is especially beautiful during the fall months, when visitors are treated to an array of vivid autumn colors.

Nearby Attractions

Robber's Cave State Park and two other state parks located on Eufaula Lake offer a variety of recreational experiences, including golf courses, swimming pools and hiking trails. The historic town of Eufaula offers an array of antique shops and restaurants.

Nice on the water campground

Booked a shaded campsite in the middle of the campground.  Campsite was great, plenty of room to park your boat right next to your camper. Bathrooms are old, but clean.  There are no hooks on the doors or walls, so bring a magnetic or over the door hook to hang your stuff on.  Very quiet and peaceful.

Beach, boat ramp, water, dump station, marina, playground, toilets flush, showers Mature trees offer a lot of shade for most sites.  IA lot of water sites with wonderful views.  Suggest checking your site before parking and if you have an ant system in place activate it.  By the time we left I thought the ants planned to carry away our small cabin.  The roads around the campground are in good shape, campsites well maintained.  The bathrooms and showers can always stand a remodel.  It was a hundred degrees and there were no fans in the shower house are the bathrooms so by the time you were toweled off you needed to start all over again.

Located about 7 miles west of Porum on Texanna Road. Warning, the road is narrow and severely potholed. A couple are rather bad. For the first few miles trash is abundant. When we arrived in the small community close to the campground, if using GPS, be aware your GPS might have you turn to the right just before arrival to the campground. Continue straight and the campground is on the left at the top of the small hill.  There is a service station just across from the campground and I am sure it has basis necessities if needed.  The marina right before the gate has a cafe that was open.

When we arrived on the weekend the campground was full and boats were everywhere.  There was a lot of boat traffic on the lake but the noise was not extreme.  I would not kayak on this lake unless you are up in one of the less traveled fingers of the lake.

Lake Eufaula is a reservoir on the Canadian River which is upstream from the confluence with the Arkansas River. It is the largest capacity lake in Oklahoma. It has 800 miles of shoreline. The building of the dam began in 1956 and completed in 1964.

The Wildlife Nature at the Eufaula State Park is amazing well worth a visit. You will find miles of hiking, biking, ATV, and equestrian trails in the 31,800 acres. There is a great amount of hunting for quail, deer, geese, and duck.

Another great stop is the Eufaula Area Museum (temporarily closed due to COVID).

An extra little tidbit is that Dirty Jobs filmed “Worm Dung Farmer” in Eufaula on November 14, 2003 and in Season 2 Episode 9 called “Dirtiest Water Jobs” featured “Catfish Noodling of Eufaula.

There are picnic areas, campsites, boat ramps, swimming beach, cabins, group shelters, restrooms, showers, and even an enclosed fishing dock around the lake. The lake draws fishermen to test their mettle at large and small mouth bass, Kentucky bass, crappie, catfish, sand bass, strippers, and others.

The draw for this area is the great outdoors. Mainly fishing and boating. Fishing tournaments are plentiful. Shopping of just about any type should be far down the list for entertainment. Plan to have a relaxing and peaceful stay.

Gorgeous

I would have given this a 5 plus star review, however, when we booked it they failed to tell us the bathrooms and showers had been locked for the season! Would have been good information to know considering we were in a pop up. Lots of peeing in the woods and driving to town to 💩. All that aside, gorgeous view! Loved being able to walk to the rocky beach and fish! Quiet and beautiful. We had a great time!
