    Rocky Point (ft Gibson)

    Beautiful Lake Shore Campground

Ft Gibson Lake near Wagoner Oklahoma offers six class A campgrounds for RV and tent camping, six marinas, multiple boat ramps on 19,990 surface acres of lake with 225 miles of shoreline. Our visit was to Rocky Point COE with a gated/staffed entry station, multiple camp hosts, day use areas, boat ramps, interior paved roads, RV concrete pads, large table, fire ring, grill, lantern holder, 50/30/15 amp electric and water on class A sites plus tent camping sites complete with shelters, tables, fire rings, grills, dispersed water spigots. The campground had a dump station, bath house and several trash receptacles. Most sites were on the water or had a water view and adequately spaced to enjoy the amazing sunrises and sunsets. We enjoyed site 2A which was a level pull through and big rig friendly. The rocky shoreline is a birders paradise...we had an eagle, three Great Blue Herons and plentiful hawks to name a few. The town of Wagoner has all the essentials to include grocery, fuel, dining and yes, Walmart. Verizon cell coverage was 1- 2 bars. The America The Beautiful Senior Pass is good for 50% camping discount. Recommend a look at Google Maps to plan your route into the campground from Oklahoma Hwy 69 as Garmin and Google are a little wacky. Just follow the signs!! 8568 STATE HWY. 251A, Wagoner, OK 74434 GPS- 36.027978,-95.314844

Wonderful sunsets along the rocky shore.  When the mist is rising over the waters a feeling of peace will wash over you.

There are many water sites, some pull throughs, back in, some paved, some a bit uneven but this is still a great campground. Most site are shaded.

Lake Eufaula is a reservoir on the Canadian River which is upstream from the confluence with the Arkansas River. It is the largest capacity lake in Oklahoma. It has 800 miles of shoreline. The building of the dam began in 1956 and completed in 1964. The Wildlife Nature at the Eufaula State Park is amazing well worth a visit. You will find miles of hiking, biking, ATV, and equestrian trails in the 31,800 acres. There is a great amount of hunting for quail, deer, geese, and duck. Another great stop is the Eufaula Area Museum(temporarily closed due to COVID). An extra little tidbit is that Dirty Jobs filmed “Worm Dung Farmer” in Eufaula on November 14, 2003 and in Season 2 Episode 9 called “Dirtiest Water Jobs” featured “Catfish Noodling of Eufaula.

The lake draws fishermen to test their mettle at large and small mouth bass, Kentucky bass, crappie, catfish, sand bass, strippers, and others. The draw for this area is the great outdoors. Mainly fishing and boating. Fishing tournaments are plentiful. Shopping of just about any type should be far down the list for entertainment. Plan to have a relaxing and peaceful stay.

    Crossroads RV Park

    5 stars all around!

I currently stayed at Crossroads RV Park and I have to say it was one of the best tenting experiences I've had in a long time! The park is well-maintained and the sites are spacious and clean.

I specifically appreciated the drive-in access, making it easy to park proper next to my site. One of the things I loved about this campground is that it offers both tent sites and RV sites, making it accessible for all types of campers.

The electric and water hookups were reliable and the sewer hookups made it easy to take care of waste disposal. Plus, the pull-through sites and big rig friendly features were a definite bonus for those with larger vehicles.

The amenities at Crossroads RV Park were also great. The toilets were well-maintained and easily accessible, and there was even WiFi available(although the strength varied). I was pleasantly surprised to find that my Verizon and AT&T signals worked well at the park too. Lastly, I have to mention the friendly and helpful staff.

They were always available to answer questions and provide assistance when needed. Overall, I would highly recommend Crossroads RV Park to anyone looking for a comfortable and enjoyable camping experience.

It's a wonderful place to stay, with a great location and fantastic amenities. I definitely recommend visit this park!

    5 stars all around!

    Belle Starr Park Campground

    Lake Views

This campground is a Corps of Engineers campground. As you drive in you are greeted by a toll booth building where you can either pick up your car tag or the attendant can give you a map with open sites. You must book the sites online through the recreation.gov website. The gates to this campground close at 10 pm & reopen at 6 am. In emergencies between 10 pm & 6 am you can exit the campground but can not re-enter as there are tire spikes. Check in time is stated as 6 pm and check out is 4 pm; however, we checked in around 3 pm.

There are 3 sections to this campground: west, central, & east. The central campground appeared to be the most updated with wide, concrete spaces. Trees are abundant here and provide nice shade, but be mindful of falling branches. All sites have electricity 30/50 amp. Some sites have water located on site, some have water located about 40 ft away (bring extra water hoses), and some have no water. No sewers in any sites, but there are dump stations located within the campground.

The campground has several bathhouses and vault toilets. I did not tour any of the women’s bathrooms but my husband said the men’s was dirty and the toilet would not flush.

There are two playgrounds for children and lots of sandy beach areas to swim in and set up lawn chairs, etc... The campground also has a boat ramp and courtesy dock.

We camped on site C58. The site was wide, clean, and has a concrete pad. It was well spaced from other campers and had a nice lake view even though we weren’t directly on the lake.

Pros: •Lake Eufaula access •Sites directly on the lake or short walking distance •Gated campground •Has a variety of sites and able to accommodate big rv’s •Concrete pad sites

Cons: •No sewer •Needs lawn maintenance •Bathrooms need cleaning & updating

    Sallisaw-Fort Smith West KOA

    Convenient to I-40

This is KOA, not my favorite place to stop, but they have good, basic facilities, sort of like Motel 6. They are just off I-40, so it was convenient for a one night stop. The sites were level, and were Pull-Thru so we didn’t even unhook. Full hookups, Some shade, a dump station. The shower/bathroom was clean. There is a small store. They also have cabins and tent sites; Free Wi-Fi, cable tv, a pool and playground, and a pond for fishing. There is a small Kamp K9 (dog park). When we were there everything was wet, and the smell of wet creosote from the log yard next door was terrible.

Sequoyah State Park - Marina and Cabins

    Nice campsites!

We had never been to Ft. Gibson Lake so we thought we'd give it a go... and we really enjoyed it. We stayed at Seminole Campground in Sequoyah State Park for two nights at the end of May and had a nice time. The camp host greeted us when we pulled in and gave us the low-down and provided us with maps on the campgrounds and the area.

The campground, was really nice. It was clean, well kept, and quiet. With only one road in and out you'd think the traffic my be kinda bad, but it wasn't. It probably helps that there's not a boat ramp directly in the campgrounds. The sites were spacious and included a nice level concrete pad, a concrete picnic table, a firepit, and a lantern hook. All the sites away from the shore had sewer connections. The ones closest to the water did not, but there's a dump station right outside the campground gate.

Being kayakers we like campgrounds that have easy water access and Seminole campground did not disappoint. The water level was up about 15-20' this particular weekend which made it easy to launch/land and with floating debris due to the water level we pretty much had the lake to ourselves. There are also hiking trails in the area including a paved walking trail.

There's a convenience store a couple of miles away for ice, beverages, etc. It's about 12 miles to the nearest Walmart to pick up those things you forget... we now have dedicated camper pillows.

Since I sometimes need to login to work, I'm always curious about the wifi. While the campground itself doesn't have wifi, I was able to turn on the hotspot feature on my phone and get connected without any problems. We have service through AT&T and didn't have any issues.

The camp host told us that this campground is one of the few that stay open year round so we may be back in the fall for a different view.

    Cookson Bend

    Lake Front Camping

This is a lakeside campground with 2 primary sections terraced so that most campsites have at least a partial lake view. All sites are water/electric with sites 51 thru 57 offering 50 amp and the remaining sites 30 amp. Some of the 30 amp sites share water connections. There are 2 boat ramps and a playground. The dump station is just outside the gate and is in good working order. Cookson Bend has the potential to be a beautiful campground but lacks facility and grounds maintenance. Unfortunately, this is well below the COE's typical standards.

    Checotah-Lake Eufaula KOA

    Overnight Stay

We stayed one night in November. Easy on/off, though the service road isn’t in good shape. We were in site 13, closest to the highway along with two cabins and the playground. Extremely noisy so if traffic bothers you request a site towards the back. Lots of trees. Our site was also close to the toilets and showers which were very clean. Shower stalls are private with a door and a curtain but the stalls are very shallow. Don’t leave anything on the floor in the outer area or it will get wet. There is a very shallow bench to put your items on but not meant for sitting. Two hooks to hang your items which is appreciated. No lock on the bathroom door. Pull through 50 amp. We’re towing a 28ft Airstream and it was level enough we didn’t need to unhitch. Listed as a gravel site but more dirt than gravel. Full hook ups, no cable, limited wifi. $44.50 a night. The swing in the playground desperately needs some WD-40, lol. We would overnight here again if needed.

Guide to Checotah

RV camping near Checotah, Oklahoma provides convenient access to Lake Eufaula, the largest lake within Oklahoma's borders with over 600 miles of shoreline. The area sits at approximately 700 feet elevation with hot summers where temperatures regularly exceed 90°F between June and September. Winter camping is available at most campgrounds, though water hookups may be winterized during freezing temperatures.

What to do

Fishing access: At Terra Starr RV Park, campers can enjoy lake access for multiple water activities. "Lake access for swimming, fishing, kayaking. Parking area for boats in park and nearby boat ramp access," notes Amy D.

Basketball and playground: Onapa RV Park & Campground offers recreational facilities for families. "They have a basketball court and a cool looking playground for kids," shares Sara M., who stayed overnight.

Hiking trails: Explore the natural surroundings at designated paths near campgrounds. "It has beautiful hiking paths. The people are friendly and helpful," mentions Paul F. about his experience at Onapa RV Park.

Wildlife viewing: The fields and pond areas provide opportunities for nature observation. At Country View RV Park, one guest noted: "The wife and I like to get out and do a little walking and certainly walk the dog. The property to the side has a fence, and they have a few cows. There was a calf who was very curious about our dog."

What campers like

Spacious sites: Country View RV Park offers pull-through sites with full hookups. "Pull-through, 50 amp, water, sewer... The hosts were out twice during our three weeks mowing all the grass in the area," reports Will and Lucinda B.

Quiet atmosphere: Many campgrounds around Checotah maintain peaceful environments. "Wife and I stayed here for 5 nights, the owners were very friendly and helpful. The campground is close to Checotah and several boat ramps for lake access," Frank S. writes about Onapa RV Park.

Pet-friendly policies: Most RV parks welcome pets and some offer dedicated areas. "There's a pond near the 'storage parking', and the hosts always made sure to mow a nice path so you could walk to it," notes a reviewer about Country View RV Park, highlighting the pet-walking opportunities.

Well-maintained facilities: Clean campgrounds rank highly with visitors. "Located about 4 miles south of I40, this was a great overnight stop. The hosts are extremely friendly and accommodating. We were greeted upon driving in and promptly directed to our site," shares Sara M. about her stay at Onapa RV Park.

What you should know

Train noise: Some campgrounds experience railroad disturbances. At Love's RV Hookup in Vian, Kevin K. warns: "The train that comes through several times a night uses their horn more than I have ever heard."

Variable Wi-Fi quality: Internet connectivity differs between locations. "It has 50, 30 and 20 amp hookups. It has shower. It has washer and dryers... If there was one thing that I didn't like about the site. It's that the Wi-Fi is kind of spotty, but I can work around that," explains Paul F. about Onapa RV Park.

Bathroom conditions: Facility cleanliness varies significantly. "Bathrooms are filthy- trash on the floor, clogged toilet for days, showers have pink mold. We asked if we could use their cleaning supplies and never got a response," reports Jessica F. about Tulsa RV Ranch.

Site leveling: Some sites require adjustment equipment. At Country View RV Park, a camper noted: "Our pull-through site wasn't super level. Our stairs always felt weird and the back end of the fifth wheel was pretty high. Using jack pads compensated easily enough."

Tips for camping with families

Activity centers: Look for campgrounds with dedicated recreation facilities. At Marval Camping Resort, Candy U. shares: "This place has everything, movie theater, horse riding, a train that goes around the park, golf carts, tons of activities for the entire family... Swimming pool and all."

Site spacing considerations: During busy periods, some parks become crowded. "The sites are close together, it was beyond crowded (my son couldn't even ride his bike because of the constant amount of cars)," reports Brittany J. about her experience at Marval Camping Resort.

Playground options: Multiple campgrounds offer play areas. "The campground was very beautiful, clean, and for all types of campers. It had nice bathrooms, clean and warm. The area was well taken care of," explains Dustin L. about Marval.

Seasonal programming: Holiday periods often include special events. Marval Camping Resort offers seasonal activities, including Halloween festivities with cabin decorating contests.

Tips from RVers

Big rig access: Crossroads RV Park accommodates larger vehicles with appropriately sized sites. "I specifically appreciated the drive-in access, making it easy to park proper next to my site. Plus, the pull-through sites and big rig friendly features were a definite bonus for those with larger vehicles," notes Stef H.

Overnight convenience: Several parks offer convenient interstate access for travelers passing through. "Full hookups, very easy access from I-40 to your site and back... WiFi was great. Only because I had the whole place to myself did I not feel gouged," explains Butch K. about Love's RV Hookup in Vian.

Storage space: Campers staying longer may need additional parking. At Country View RV Park, a visitor mentioned: "We travel with our motorcycles, so we parked the F-350 in the overflow area, which was big enough for about four vehicles."

Site types: Check whether your preferred sites are available when booking. "Located about 4 miles south of I40, this was a great overnight stop. They have nicely spaced spots, not exactly level, but very clean and quiet," observes Sara M. about Onapa RV Park.
