The campsites are alright minus the hike but the downside is they lock the gate at night and no one else is there so if you have an emergency or just need to leave you can’t, you’re literally stuck.
Love this camping area! Really private sites, clean facilities, and nice lake access. My only con is that the showers are automatic sensors, so when you need the water to warm up, you just have to stand there and take it. If you step out of the way of the sensor, the water stops. But otherwise,…
We camped here again at Staunton River State Park, this time we stayed in site 21, which is an electric site near the bathrooms/showers and one of the best for viewing stars. There is little tree cover and a sort of field behind the campsite where you can set up your telescope and see the stars…

Quick overnight stay; pad was large & easy to back into with our Cricket trailer- sites are nicely spaced apart (privacy). Airplanes fly overhead pretty regularly; seemed to stop in the late evening & start up early. Be prepared to pack you trash out of the park. Overall a nice spot!
Site was nice and level. Clean bathhouse. Water and electric only. Dump station.
Located close to nothing else, this campground was so peaceful at night. During the day, it’s beautiful. It’s got showers with hot water and accessible facilities. Great camping!
My husband and I love this park. Small campground only 2 loops. We like to go during the off season when there are less families. If you like star gazing the park is one of very few that is a certified dark sky park.
This park was great for my family. We hiked down with our stuff and set up at campsite 4. We were the only ones there for the weekend and there was ample space for setting up. We used the fire pit and the kids played in the creek. While staying at the park we went on hikes, fished, and played disc…
We had a great weekend here. Enjoyed outdoor movie on Friday. Park rangers had great kids programs including animal feeding frenzy where we learned about snakes and turtles and we invoked in feeding. Also lots of any pelts to learn about. Park is part of international Darksky Association, great for…

This was our "shakedown" trip with our new RV. We found the campground to be very accommodating: 30A/50A electrical, and clean water. The lake was just steps away from our site. We went mid-week, so the campground was not completely filled. The bath house was clean and had plenty of room.
Loved that there was a playground near the site. The site itself was gravelly and not super private but it was great- the hikes around were stunning.
We were on a two week trip across NC and actually stayed here twice. It was clean, had hookups (which was really nice!), and great sites. First night we had a couple stair walk up which I really enjoyed as a separate space so the kids could sleep and we could hang. Second night was closer to the…
Had a wonderful site in the Shinleaf campground. This area is for hike in tent campers, but it’s a flat, easy, hike to site. Beautiful views of the lake at many of the sites which are well spaced out. Bathroom was very clean. Enjoyed this campground a lot!
My gkids and I stayed here one night because they wanted to earn a winter camping badge and it was so worth it! We were there on a beautiful chilly clear night and the sky and stars were amazing! If you love stargazing this is the park for you. It is an International Dark Sky Park. There is a…

We camped at C-52. This site was very spacious, easy to back into, and level. This was a HUGE site, lots of space between neighbors. We love camping with lots of trees and nature. Great campground for biking.
