Pinewood Lodge Campground
Beautiful
Nice and quiet, here for a 3 night stay. 4 star because there are signs posted No dogs allowed on the road to the beach or other areas in the campground, limits walking. There is a dog park, though.
Nickerson State Park Campground welcomes pets throughout its seven distinct camping areas near Cape Cod's attractions. The spacious, tree-lined sites provide privacy while maintaining convenient access to pet-friendly trails and ponds. Dogs must be leashed at all times within the campground, with easy access to drinking water stations located throughout the loops. Both tent campers and RV owners can bring their pets, with accommodations ranging from basic sites to yurts. Sweetwater Forest and Shady Knoll Campground also accept pets at their Brewster locations, offering full hookup sites with picnic tables and fire rings where dogs can relax alongside their owners. The campgrounds maintain clean facilities and provide designated pet waste disposal stations. Many sites are grassy with tree-lined borders, giving pets shaded areas during summer months. Campers have noticed the park rangers are vigilant about enforcing leash rules to ensure all guests and pets remain safe.
The Cape Cod Rail Trail running through Nickerson State Park provides an excellent dog walking path with miles of paved surfaces suitable for both morning and evening exercise. Dogs are permitted at designated areas of the kettle ponds for swimming, though they aren't allowed on the main swimming beaches. The freshwater ponds offer a perfect alternative to saltwater beaches for dogs who enjoy swimming. Nearby Atlantic Oaks Campground and Maurice's Campground in Wellfleet also welcome pets with designated pet exercise areas. During peak summer season, ticks are prevalent throughout Cape Cod campgrounds, so pet owners should perform daily tick checks and bring appropriate prevention. Most campgrounds in the area require proof of current rabies vaccination, and veterinary services are available in nearby Orleans and Brewster. Campers can access numerous pet-friendly hiking trails through pine forests that offer protection from summer heat while exploring the unique kettle pond landscapes with their dogs.

Large sites and very friendly staff. This campground has a great dog park, pool, large pond.
Fairly large, mostly RV and travel trailer park, we felt right at home in our popup. Check in and out were simple. Sites are large although a little close together. Mostly sandy gravel sites with lots of shade available. There are a few really nice tent sites next to the playground, close to the store, showers, and restrooms.
Facilities were uncrowded and very clean. Camp store was nice with lots of supplies available. Wonderful playground for the kids, big and small. Great little dog park.
The location of this campsite is perfect! Short drive to many of the best beaches on the Cape. Lots to do in the immediate area for families, plenary of restaurant options.
We will definitely return!
Site was level, staff was awesome. They do have a dog park and plenty of things to do. Didn't like that you have to pay for hot water though.
The sites are pretty close and some are not level. It seems that many sites have more than one vehicle at them, making it more congested. The Highlands area is much quieter. Decent dog park & common play areas (horseshoes, ladder ball, cornhole, basketball). Lots for kids to do. We went to Plimoth Plantation about 20 min away but not much else in the area. Management & employees are friendly & helpful.
General: Over 450 sites (tent 20 amp w/e; 30 amp w/e; 30 amp w/e/s; 50 amp w/e/s; 50 amp w/e; 30, 50 or premium seasonal)
Site Quality: Generally good. Sites are gravel. We had originally reserved Site 98 but there was a large rock and tree roots making it challenging to position our van. We were able to move to Site 95 which was much better. Each site has a picnic table and rock firepit. Trees provide some amount of privacy between many sites.
Bath/Shower house: Spotlessly clean. The cleaning schedule indicates it is cleaned three times daily.
Activities/Amenities:
*Some are seasonal and were closed when we were there in October. These include three pools, a food truck, coffee, and ice cream.
* Others include a pristine laundry room (but you have to purchase a laundry card, so one load is a minimum of $10), shuffleboard, playground, tennis/pickleball, volleyball, basketball, horseshoe pit, soccer and baseball fields, firewood and propane fill, free cable and WiFi, dog park. I’ve probably forgotten a few but you get the idea…
We chose this campground because of its proximity to the Woods Hole ferry terminal. It is not our typical preferred campground but for one night in the off-season, it was very pleasant. It is billed as a family-friendly campground, and I imagine it would be very different during high season. We gladly forgo seasonal amenities for a quieter stay. The staff was very present and welcoming. Note that it is located on a busy highway and if you are approaching from the south, the turn into the campground is hair-raising! There is some road noise at some sites but not for most of them.
Great stay at the only campground on Martha’s Vineyard! Immaculate tent sites as well as bath houses, very clean shower and toilet facilities. Camp store is well stocked, including fire wood, and staying here you are close to all of the quaint MV towns…..whether by car, bike rental, or the island bus line that goes by the camp entrance. The ferry to Nantucket is only a few minutes away too for a day excursion! Very personable staff…..be sure to make at least a few minutes each day to pet the campground dogs!!
Woodsy pet-friendly family camping with easy access to Cape Cod attractions. Our family of four plus one pet enjoyed biking, hiking, and pond swimming during our three night tent stay. Sites are grassy and tree-lined offering some privacy. Bathrooms were clean and showers were warm and spacious. We kept ourselves occupied within the park for most of our stay, but enjoyed venturing out to spend time enjoying the National Seashore, and outstanding sea food joints. Since camping means being close to nature be sure to bring bug spray and be prepared to deal with a bit of sand. In all, this state park made for a fun family outdoor adventure!
Great campground for any type of camping, convenient to all kinds of shopping and touristy things, amazing campground staff, nice pond for fishing or swimming, lots of activities and celebrations for every age group. Two dogs parks are a huge benefit for us as well. This is an exceptionally well maintained campground. We’ll be back and would recommend it to anyone

Private wooded sites: Many campgrounds feature natural separation between sites. "We were on site B17 and it was perfect. Complete 360 privacy, well wooded, and just what was needed. Listen to the sounds of frogs at night was kinda awesome," shares Christina M. about Sweetwater Forest.
Clean facilities: Campers consistently mention well-maintained bathrooms. "The bathrooms were not what I would call clean (thus the missing star), but they were functional. Unlimited (and FREE) hot showers can be found in area 2 of the park," explains Molly G. from Nickerson State Park.

Campfire regulations: Rules vary by campground. "They do have quiet hours which is nice when you're tired. Each site has a fire pit and picnic table," explains Bowen B. about Shady Knoll Campground.
Site sizes and layouts: Campgrounds offer varied site configurations. "The sites are a little tight to maneuver if you have a large rig," warns Jason E. about Old Chatham Road RV Resort.

Pet-friendly options for families with dogs: Many South Orleans area campgrounds welcome family pets. "We love this campground, and have been coming here for a few years. It's dog friendly, and even though dogs aren't allowed on the swimming beaches, you can bring them to different parts of the pond for swimming," shares Katelain T. from Nickerson State Park.
Hookup availability: Services vary significantly between campgrounds. "Sites are large, although no hook ups," notes Glenn B. about Nickerson State Park.
Site access considerations: Road conditions affect larger vehicles. "Our particular site was a little on the small side, without much greenery to separate from the other sites," reports Molly G. about Atlantic Oaks Campground.
