Langlade County Veterans Memorial Park accommodates pets at all campsites with fire rings and picnic tables. The park maintains a strict leash policy requiring dogs to remain on a 6-foot leash at all times, including on trails and at campsites. Campers report the park's cleanliness and well-maintained facilities make it ideal for pet owners seeking a natural setting. Both tent and RV sites welcome pets, and the park even offers pet-friendly cabin options for those preferring more shelter. Ada Lake Recreation Area and Boulder Lake Campground also permit pets throughout their grounds, though Ada Lake prohibits dogs on the beach or in swimming areas. Most campgrounds in the Pearson area provide basic amenities like drinking water and toilets, with some offering additional facilities such as showers and electric hookups.

The extensive trail systems throughout the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest provide excellent opportunities for hiking with dogs. Many trails connect directly to campgrounds, with some campers noting the ATV trail at Ada Lake's entrance offers convenient nearby hiking options with pets. Boulder Lake receives mixed reviews regarding pet experiences—some visitors praise its pet-friendly atmosphere while others mention noise issues from pets. When camping with dogs in this region, owners should be prepared for wildlife encounters and varying weather conditions. The area's lakes and streams offer water access for dogs, though specific restrictions apply at swimming beaches. Most campgrounds enforce quiet hours and have policies regarding excessive barking to maintain the peaceful northwoods atmosphere that draws visitors to the Pearson area.

      Pine Valley Lodge

Great view, Cabins run down and Beach was a mess

We have been coming here for a long time. It is under new management and we thought things would get better. While we were here other guests trashed the beach and had dogs running and using the bathroom throughout the campsite. The rules for dogs were to keep them on leashes and clean up after them. These rules were not being followed which caused the beach, in the past is lovely, but with the dogs using it as a bathroom the beach smelt like poop. Nobody in our week of staying cleaned up after them so we needed to go somewhere else to swim. If your place is pet friendly please make sure to keep up with your own rules. The cabins are run down but showers are hot and the utilities are still able to be used

      Private!

Park is located in the Peshtigo River state forest. Pet friendly!! Your pets are aloud on trails and with you at your campsite. They must be on a 6 ft leash. The park is beautiful. What surprised me the most was the pit toliets that looked like tiny houses. Pictures are attached. There is a small lake which is great for kayak and swimming. This park also has a boat launch onto the Cauldron Falls Reservoir. I've attached photos of the map. Almost all the campsites are private and hidden away in their own little spots. There are a few hiking trails which i enjoyed spending time on. If you go down the street a bit you will find Old Veterans state park which has a secluded quiet lake and beach. I spent an afternoon at the beach and never saw a soul. There is not a camp store. The only thing you can buy at the park is firewood.

First stay at this campground and would definitely go back

Stayed for the first time at this campground in July and loved it. We stayed on a tent site, it was huge and had electric. I love that the campground is right on the lake and there’s quite a few amenities for people who boat. It is pet friendly and the bathrooms are quite a walk but clean and hot water is available.

      Boulder Lake

      We love it!

We chose this campground on a whim since we wanted to be near Lakewood where I would spend summers as a kid. We love this place and ended up choosing it for both of our camping trips last summer. We in fact got the same exact site and it’s our favorite anyway. This campground is pet friendly- We took our bulldog camping with us. We checked out the beach and it was very accessible. The showers , Bathrooms and Vault Toilets were all clean. We did enjoy the hiking on the campground but there were some parts that were a little overgrown. Overall we love this place and it’s our go to!

      Simple solace

We stopped here for a quick overnight pit stop on our way from Minneapolis to our final destination camp site in Rowleys bay , Door county, Wisconsin. We were in a bind & needed something last minute but we still had specific wants.....like privacy! Their online reservations were easy. Pics of the sites were clear. Electric hook up & a great rate!
This camp is well off the beaten path , narrow windy roads abound. But all paved & no traffic. In fact, we never saw a soul. The drive is lovely thru the Nicollet State forest. Although, you will lose service & it your relying on GPS directions, you’ll find yourself in a bind like us. But we got out our trusty map & winged it. Cell service kicked in just in time & we made it!

Check in was a breeze. The gal was lovely & helpful. You will need a Wisconsin park’s admission sticker. The drive is still a 2.2 mile trek beyond the check in building. Our site was perfect. It was lush, green, & private . Well sized, easy to find, part grass, part gravel. Picnic table & fire ring. If you need it , they have a few bathroom buildings peppered around the loop & a very well kept shower & bathroom building upon entering the campground. I’m telling you, this place is PRIVATE. It is out there.. but still very well maintained. We were impressed by that.

If anyone one else was camping , we didn’t know until we walked the dogs around the loop. Our site was surrounded by forest & the dogs were able to roam our site freely. There were mosquitoes, as it was slightly humid & rained a bit. But nothing mosquito spray couldn’t handle. FYI- if you have kids they will be bored. There is no playground that we saw. But if you just want some peace & quiet - this is the place for you! Most of the campers were older retirees. It looked like there were trails to explore but since it was a quick stay, we didn’t get a chance. We plan on coming back for sure & checking it out. For reference: We have a 19ft travel trailer & a ford truck. We stayed at site 19 , it is pull in & it was perfect, with plenty of room for everything. We took a walk to be nosy &also liked site 20, it was even bigger! Site 14 looked great for a pull thru site. There were also some much larger sites for bigger rigs. There also plenty of tent sites that looked great too. Dogs are welcome. As an added bonus- there were raspberry bushes everywhere! They were just coming in , but if you catch it right. You’ll be up to your eyeballs in fresh raspberries.. yum!

    Guide to Pearson

Pearson, Wisconsin sits within Langlade County at an elevation of approximately 1,600 feet in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. The area receives about 50 inches of annual precipitation, with summer temperatures averaging 75-80°F during peak camping season from May through September. Local campgrounds typically have sandy soil conditions that drain well after rainfall, making them suitable for tent camping even during wet periods.

    What to do

Disc golf adventures: Langlade County Veterans Memorial Park offers an exceptional disc golf course that attracts enthusiasts. According to visitor Nathan R., the park features "a nice beach area and fantastic disc golf course!"

Kayaking on electric-motor-only lakes: Ada Lake Recreation Area provides peaceful paddling experiences with minimal noise disruption. One camper noted, "The lake is electric motors only so the watercraft were generally quiet," making it ideal for relaxed kayaking. Several visitors bring their own kayaks to enjoy the serene waters.

Winter camping experiences: For those seeking off-season adventures, Langlade County Veterans Memorial Park hosts winter camping events. Charles M. shared their experience: "Loved the whole experience, the cold, the snow, the hammock camping. Quite an event!" This provides year-round opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts.

Hiking connected trail systems: Boulder Lake connects to numerous hiking trails within the national forest. The campground sits directly on the water with "sandy beach like areas right by campsite," according to reviewer Haley C., making it convenient to alternate between water activities and forest exploration.

    What campers like

Sandy shorelines: Many waterfront sites at Bear Lake feature natural sandy beaches. Kimberly G. mentions, "The beach is nice size with a roped off swimming area that has plenty of space for the kids to swim and explore." These natural beaches provide easier water access than steeper shorelines found elsewhere.

First-come campsites: Ada Lake provides quality non-reservable sites that often remain available mid-week. A camper reported, "We arrived mid-week and had no problem getting a lakeside campsite." This flexibility benefits travelers with changeable schedules who prefer spontaneous camping trips.

Level camping pads: River Forest Campground and Outdoor Retreats offers exceptionally level sites that minimize setup difficulties. One camper noted they "didn't even need the levelers!" This practical feature saves time during arrival and prevents equipment from rolling or sliding during overnight stays.

Clean facilities: Despite being rustic locations, many campgrounds maintain clean restrooms. One visitor to Bear Lake commented that "The pit toilets were the cleanest I have ever used," demonstrating the care taken even at more primitive sites.

    What you should know

Mosquito preparedness: Richardson Lake Campground warns of significant insect activity during certain periods. One camper candidly reported, "Very beautiful place but billions of mosquitoes. We survived only one night. Couldn't stay outside at all. Nothings helped-sprays, bracelets, enteric oils." Campers should pack multiple insect repellent options.

Cell service limitations: Bear Lake has virtually no connectivity. A visitor specifically noted "ZERO WiFi and cell service," making it important to download maps and information before arrival and inform contacts of your limited availability.

Elevation differences at lakeside sites: Some waterfront sites sit significantly above water level. At Richardson Lake, "lakeside campsites are elevated somewhat high above the lake, so you need to walk down stairs or a steep-ish trail to get to the water." This can affect water access, especially for those with mobility concerns or heavy equipment.

Shower availability varies: While many locations offer vault toilets, shower facilities are limited. Langlade County Veterans Memorial Park has "modern showers," but Ada Lake Recreation Area does not provide shower facilities, requiring campers to plan accordingly for longer stays.

    Tips for camping with families

Swimming options: Langlade County Veterans Memorial Park offers a designated swimming beach with recreational structures. Darlene S. mentioned the park has a "nice swim beach" that provides safer swimming conditions than undesignated shorelines.

Playground access: Several campgrounds feature playground equipment for children. Rebecca B. noted Langlade County Veterans Memorial Park includes a "playground, sand volleyball court" among its amenities, providing entertainment options beyond water activities.

Pet restrictions at beaches: While most campgrounds welcome pets, swimming areas often have specific restrictions. At Ada Lake, "no dogs allowed on the beach or even in the beach area," requiring families with pets to plan separate activities for swimming and pet exercise.

Nearby rainy day alternatives: Families should prepare contingency plans for inclement weather. The Cathedral of the Pines near Ada Lake offers indoor viewing opportunities of nesting herons, providing educational opportunities during unfavorable outdoor conditions.

    Tips from RVers

Dump station considerations: Great Northern Campground has specific dump station policies. One RVer warned, "You only can use the dump station once at check out or you can pay a fee, but none of the sites have sewer." Plan tank usage accordingly to avoid additional charges.

Site leveling challenges: Site terrain varies significantly across campgrounds. At Great Northern Campground, an RVer reported their site was "extremely unlevel and had a low spot that filled up with water/mud in the rain," suggesting bringing extra leveling blocks and positioning equipment strategically.

Power limitations: Many campgrounds offer only 20-amp service even at electric sites. River Forest provides "water and 20 amp electric service," which one camper noted "is substantial to power the necessities" but may not support running multiple high-demand appliances simultaneously.

Backing difficulties: Maneuvering larger RVs requires careful planning. At River Forest, a 34-foot fifth wheel owner reported "backing into the spot was tricky but very doable," suggesting arriving during daylight hours for easier setup, especially for less experienced drivers.
