Richardson Lake

Richardson Lake, near Laona, Wisconsin, is a rustic campground that offers a peaceful escape into nature. With its woodsy sites and proximity to the lake, it’s a solid choice for those looking to unwind in a serene setting.

The campground features composting toilets and drinking water, but keep in mind there are no showers or electric hookups. Visitors have mentioned the quiet and secluded atmosphere, making it a great spot for those who appreciate a more back-to-basics camping experience. One camper noted, “Very nice campground. Bare bones, but that’s all we needed.”

While the lakeside sites provide a lovely view, they are elevated, requiring a bit of a trek down to the water. This can be a bit of a workout, but it’s worth it for the scenery. Some campers have pointed out that the lake isn’t particularly exciting for canoeing, but the surrounding forest offers plenty of opportunities for hiking and exploring.

Keep in mind that mosquitoes can be a nuisance, so come prepared with repellent. If you’re looking for a quiet retreat with a touch of rustic charm, Richardson Lake might just be the place for you.

Private, woodsy camp sites

Very nice campground. Bare bones, but that’s all we needed. There are composting toilets, but no showers. We’ll pump to take water to your campground. Quiet, secluded, right next to a lake.

Nothing special

I stayed here Labor Day weekend 2019 and unfortunately did not know there was an off-road race scheduled in nearby Crandon who meant the campground was busy. Quiet hours were not enforced and many people returned to their campsites late and were a little louder than was appreciated. The lake itself wasn’t particularly interesting to canoe. Also all of the lakefront sites are well above t he water so if you’re hoping to just carry a canoe or kayak down, it would be pretty difficult. Sites were good sized but not very private.

Do not recommend

Very beautiful place but billions of mosquitoes. We survived only one night. Couldn't stay outside at all. Nothings helped-sprays, bracelets,  enteric oils

Nice campground, but lakeside campsites are elevated above lake

This is a nice forest service campground. It's rustic. Sites can be reserved in advance, which is handy when traveling from far away. The lakeside campsites are elevated somewhat high above the lake, so you need to walk down stairs or a steep-ish trail to get to the water.
