    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

The New London, Ohio area encompasses several established campgrounds supporting a mix of camping styles, from tent sites to RV hookups and cabin rentals. Indian Trail Campground sits directly in New London while Freedom Valley is located just south of town on US Highway 250. Findley State Park Campground lies approximately 10 miles east in Wellington, offering wooded campsites around Findley Lake. The region includes both privately-operated campgrounds with full amenities and state park facilities with more rustic options. Most sites accommodate tents, RVs, and many offer cabin rentals for those seeking more substantial shelter.

Camping season for most facilities runs from April through mid-October, with limited year-round options. Reservations are strongly recommended, particularly for weekend stays and holiday periods when campgrounds reach capacity. Findley State Park features several "arms" that branch out from the main road with tall, dense trees surrounding sites. As one camper noted, "tall, dense trees surround, deadening sound, which makes the campsites very quiet, and the curve of each arm also suggests a more intimate space." Road access throughout the region is generally good with paved highways connecting major campgrounds, though some sites may have narrow clearings limiting large RV access. Travelers should check individual campground policies regarding pets, fires, and quiet hours as these vary across facilities.

Campers consistently highlight the region's natural features and recreational opportunities. Findley State Park provides fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and a small public beach, while other campgrounds offer easy access to trails and wooded areas. "If you're looking for a quiet place to hang your pole for a weekend, this near-city escape is for you," wrote one visitor about Findley State Park. Many campgrounds maintain playgrounds, camp stores, and organized activities, particularly during summer months. Water and electric hookups are standard at most developed sites, with some offering full hookups including sewer connections. Primitive tent-only areas typically provide more spacious and secluded sites, though with fewer amenities. The proximity to Cleveland (less than an hour's drive) and other historic towns makes these campgrounds convenient bases for exploring northeastern Ohio.

      East Harbor State Park Campground

      Clean, adequate state park

We came when there had been a lot of rain, the original site we had reserved had a lot of standing water and mud and a big drop off the paved area, so we asked if we could switch. For a $6 change fee we were able to move. They do have some full hookup sites, but those are hard to come by. It is a huge campgeound and the sites are all very close to one another. The bathrooms were clean, I didn't use the showers, but they looked clean. They had a small, simple laundry facility that worked as needed. The hiking in the park wasn't too exciting. There is a disk golf course wr checked out, but it was pretty rainy off and on during our stay so we didn't play. Biking within the Park was good, with some well laid out paths. Overall nothing too exciting, but very adequate for what we needed to explore a little of what Lake Erie has to offer.

      Camp Sandusky

Bed bug infested! Poorly managed. This place has gone down hill!

We had to leave in the middle of the night due to a bed bug infestation. We let staff know we were putting our belongings out side and would come back in the morning. When we came back in the morning the owner would not issue a refund and instead insulted us. The whole situation was so unbelievably weird. I wish I would've read through all the reviews before booking. This seems to be an ongoing issue with them and the owner couldnt be less bothered. People like him are the reason Ohio bed bug issue will remain a problem! What we thought was going to be relaxed getaway turned out to be a very expensive nightmare. The craziest part of it all is this happend Friday evening/ Saturday morning and as of Monday he is already trying to rent that same cabin out to another family on camping sites. Don't go to Camp Sandusky. Its not worth it. I hope this helps someone!

      Gotta Getaway RV Park

      NOT A FAMILY CAMPGROUND

Not a safe environment for children. The little man at the desk is ok with it too, he claims he kicked us all out but my video I took when confronting him on the situation differs. He also keeps deleting reviews and replying back with blatant lies. If you read through the negative reviews you can see he can’t admit when he’s wrong, it’s always everyone else who’s wrong. I don’t want money back from this joke of a campground and I don’t care what the owner has to say. What I want is to save everyone else from wasting a perfectly good camping trip on a trashy place. It was so bad we DECIDED on our own to leave and camp elsewhere. Aside from the sketchy seasonal campers, the amenities also are trash. The pond is all muck, sites are water and electric only with dirt pads. I have never seen such a hillbilly set up. The pool is ok. Dump station was probably my favorite amenity, dumping our tanks to leave that place! But even that is set up at the entrance so when dumping you can block the incoming campers. I will never be back to this place, let me verify with the video I took, WE WERE NOT KICKED OUT. We left on our own because our CHILDREN DID NOT FEEL SAFE!

South Bass Island State Park Campground

      Well run state park

Some sites have full hookup. Some have just electric. Some are for tents only. Several bath houses that are dated but surprisingly clean. There are not trash receptacles everywhere but rather one area with several dumpsters. Sites are blacktop paved with various degrees of levelness. The whole campground is shaded so can get muddy after rain and smokey from campfires. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. Park staff are helpful and camp hosts do a great job. All in all a good for a state park.

      Malabar Farm State Park Campground

      Peaceful and Primitive

Second time here. Quiet, except for the birds chirping.

Only 3 other campsites in use on an August weekend.

      Water and pit toilet.

Enough At&t cell service to connect, but it's not great.

      East Harbor State Park Campground

Great spot for a quick stop

Stopped off for the night en route to the UP of Michigan. As other user mention the sites on the D loop are great for a small van. Kind of a busy campground but fairly quiet midweek. Went for a walk at sunset and saw a bunch of deer and rabbits. Would definitely return if I'm in the area again.

      Tall Timbers Campground

      Compact, bathhouses underwhelming

Campground is well labeled and maintained. Sites are very very close together but this was expected. The bathhouses were extremely disappointing considering there are no full hookups and the price to stay here at a “resort.” They were both full of spider webs, had very dingy fixtures, and did not live up to the rest of the camp.

      Clay's Resort Jellystone Park

NO communication and severely lacking customer service skills

I won’t rate the other categories yet but I’ve been upset the whole process trying to plan my trip and the people have made it impossible. I’m constantly unable to get ahold of the park. I keep getting put on the“call back list” when trying to modify a reservation only for NO ONE to ever call back. I finally get ahold of someone after a MONTH… only to have zero customer service skills… they just said“oh we don’t even have a call list” so I ask for another form of communication I can have with me since my trip is in a month and I’ve had these issues for a month… they offer ZERO solutions and are not empathetic either. Another issue was last year I was hospitalized for several months due to an early twin birth so I had to push my trip to the following year… when I FINALLY got ahold of the park last year the women I spoke with trying to manage the rescheduling…was ZERO help surprise surprise… on top of that it took 13 calls and weeks before a manager got back to me…making the window to reschedule or get refunds closer to closing adding stress that you might not get to make your next move how you’d like… anyway…I simply asked for dates that matched the costs that we already paid for the trip so I didn’t have to pay more… I simply asked for it to be within the summer days since my previous reservation was during the summer time with all the extra water park and amenities that close at the end of August. I booked when my kid could use all amenities and there were no hour restrictions either due to still being in season. However the lady couldn’t accommodate or recommend any alternate dates to suite my trip that weren’t several hundred dollars more… now we started out with a trip all paid for last year with all amenities no hour restrictions to a weekend we had to pay more and are restricted hours wise on the summer amenities. As the person doing reservations you should be able to recommend dates and help me plan the trip accordingly to the money spent and not sit on the other end of the phone demanding I just give you dates…. After our trip we will never plan or schedule anything at this park again. Regardless of the amenities… for families traveling far distances you couldn’t make it anymore inconvenient, difficult, and time consuming for simply planning questions or just getting ahold of you in general. No sorrys…. Just a whole lot of…”hmm that’s weird well oh well, next” kind of attitude. Zero solutions just excuses. So that being first impressions not too excited to find out what we are in for when we arrive. Especially reading other reviews about deflated balls so you can’t use the hoops, broken a/c units that the property won’t even handle that their own employees have to give up their own personal comfort cause management won’t?… concession stands trash everywhere… broken hot tubs, WiFi not working in cabins for night time with children is tough…sad that my family’s first camping trip ever hasnt even happened yet and it’s been nothing but a headache to plan because of the staff. Yall make money to make the experience smooth for your consumers but somebody missed the memo.

    Guide to New London

Campsite options near New London, Ohio span across rural Huron County with elevations averaging 1,100 feet. The region experiences distinct seasons with summer high temperatures typically ranging from 75-85°F, making June through September the prime camping period. Winter camping is limited to just a few year-round facilities due to northern Ohio's freezing temperatures and significant snowfall from December through February.

    What to do

Fishing opportunities: Indian Trail Campground features multiple fishing ponds where campers can relax and cast a line. As one visitor noted, "Great campground! Love the pond, pool, and volleyball court."

Water recreation: At Findley State Park Campground, visitors can enjoy various water activities on Findley Lake. "We took the kayaks out on the lake and had a great time," reports Linda R. The park also offers canoe and kayak rentals for those without their own equipment.

Hiking network: The trail system at Findley State Park provides extensive hiking options through wooded areas. According to Kimberly C., "We can easily get lost on 3 mile hikes in the woods and still be on marked paths! The roads are paved and excellent for biking and skating."

Family activities: Cleveland/Sandusky Jellystone Park offers numerous structured activities for children. "Tons of planned activities for the kids. Movie nights, wibits (inflatable obstacle course on the pond), stocked pond, kayaks, Gaga Ball, RC track, jump pad, climbing wall etc etc etc!!" shares Kathryn P.

    What campers like

Spacious wooded sites: Many campers appreciate the natural setting at Findley State Park. One camper, Evan D., mentioned, "Good signage to the camping sites, very easy to navigate. There's a bathroom/shower house near the sites, as well as a fire ring at each individual site."

Clean facilities: Charles Mill Lake Park Campground maintains well-kept shower houses and restrooms. "Bath houses are clean and well maintained," notes Tina D., who enjoyed riding bikes and walking through the park despite some noise issues.

Lake views: Charles Mill offers waterfront camping with scenic vistas. Danielle T. shared, "Water view on both sides and sites are nice sized and not right on top of each other."

Wildlife encounters: Nature observation opportunities abound at local campgrounds. At Charles Mill, Karrie Kat W. observed, "We had deer that would come over every morning :)"

    What you should know

Reservation timing: Campgrounds in this region fill quickly, especially during summer months. Jeffrey L. advises about Findley State Park: "If you're planning a holiday weekend you need to book 6 months in advance."

Site variations: Claremar Twin Lakes Camping Resort has a mix of site qualities and locations. Amanda M. cautions, "Shortly after arriving and discovering we had a very small site that was a downward slope we discovered the map that was given to us was very inaccurate."

Tent site conditions: Soil composition can affect tent setup in certain campgrounds. At Findley State Park, Evan D. notes, "Dirt in the campsites is packed super tight, it's hard to drive tent stakes. However, it's flat enough where it isn't really an issue."

Seasonal differences: Most New London area campgrounds operate approximately April through October, with limited winter options. Rustic Lakes Campground operates from "May 1 to October 15" while Indian Trail Campground runs from "April 27 to October 7."

    Tips for camping with families

Multiple swimming options: American Wilderness Campground provides family-friendly water activities. Andrew V. mentions, "Beautiful clean serene park with absolutely stunning beach views at sunset."

Kid-focused amenities: Several campgrounds offer attractions specifically designed for children. Jessica J. shares that at American Wilderness, "We love the fishing available here we also had the kids they enjoyed the arcade and gem mining."

Educational opportunities: Some campgrounds provide nature programs or learning experiences. At Charles Mill Lake, Joseph E. notes, "The Messerly Recreation building had some fun things for kids on Saturday and bingo on Saturday night."

Playground access: For families with young children, look for sites near playground facilities. Renee L. observed at Cleveland/Sandusky Jellystone Park: "It is clean with friendly staff. They also have a stocked pond, gem mining, and Gaga ball."

    Tips from RVers

Hookup availability: Freedom Valley offers full-service RV sites with hookups. David B. confirms, "Pool, trails, indoor and outdoor showers, toilets, water hookup. Each area has its specific flavor: RV seasonals, campers, cabins, bunkhouse and tent area."

Space constraints: Some campgrounds have limited space for larger RVs. Greg A. observed about American Wilderness, "We stayed in the primitive area and it was just ok. Only a port o potty was available in that area but you could walk to a different area for restrooms and showers."

Level site considerations: Charles Mill has some uneven terrain challenges. Hillary W. cautions, "The campsites were small, very uneven and dirty. We saw seasonal campers with four and five cinder blocks holding up one corner or another."

Road navigation: Access roads vary significantly between campgrounds. According to Monica F. about Charles Mill, "Tho they messed up and double booked our site (a really nice one on quieter waterfront side) we were able to get another waterfront one by marina."
