    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Campgrounds around Cascade, Wisconsin lie within the glacial landscapes of the Kettle Moraine region, providing developed camping options in both state forests and private facilities. The Northern Unit of Kettle Moraine State Forest contains several popular campgrounds including Mauthe Lake and Long Lake, which accommodate both tent and RV camping. Most sites within the state forest feature electric hookups, drinking water, and clean shower facilities. Private campgrounds such as Plymouth Rock Camping Resort offer more amenities including cabins and glamping options, while the Harrington Beach State Park Campground provides lakefront access on Lake Michigan approximately 15 miles east of Cascade.

The camping season in this region typically runs from May through October, with most state forest campgrounds closing for the winter season. Reservations are strongly recommended during summer weekends and holidays when sites fill quickly. "The deep spots offer gorgeous private, well wooded area that makes you feel like you're all alone in the woods. Fire rings and tables are there as well as bathrooms showers, a dump station and fresh water," noted one visitor about a nearby county park. Weather conditions vary dramatically by season, with summer temperatures typically ranging from 70-85°F during the day while spring and fall camping may require preparation for cooler nights. Cell service is generally reliable throughout the area, though coverage may be spotty in some of the more remote campsites within the state forest.

Campers consistently praise the privacy of sites in the Kettle Moraine forest area, particularly those in the upper loops of Mauthe Lake Campground. The region's glacial topography creates natural separation between many campsites, enhancing the outdoor experience. Swimming access is available at several locations, with Mauthe Lake offering a designated beach area popular among families. As one camper observed, "Most of the sites are pretty secluded so if you enjoy your privacy I will love this place. Everything was clean and updated including the bathrooms." The extensive trail network throughout the region provides additional recreational opportunities, with the Ice Age Trail and numerous hiking and biking paths connecting the various campgrounds and natural features within the Kettle Moraine State Forest system.

      Point Beach State Forest

      Beautiful Park

The campsitw and park are excellent. The staff we encountered were helpful and kind. The beach, hiking trails and lighthouse are outstanding. I can't find anything to say negative. A wonderful place and experience.

      Wisconsin State Fair RV Park

Everything you need in one place!

I love staying here from time to time. As a full time RVer, I book here frequently. Not only do they have all types of hookups stays, but they full men and women’s locker rooms with showers, and restrooms, including a laundry facility on site, shop is inside the office and ice available. The customer service is by far the best! They work with you every step of the way and show you around the area if you wanted! Plus they have a dump station and water fill up station even if you’re not staying here or book here. I recommend this site to anyone and everyone!

      Point Beach State Forest

      Great Views! So pet friendly!

Point Beach State Forest sits on the Eastern side of Wisconsin along the 5 miles of shores on lake Michigan.

This is a wonderful Park. It can be very busy especially during peak times, so be prepared for crowds! The park offers plenty to do from trails to swimming, and obviously camping.

The park offers two beautiful beaches. One of them being for pets, both of them right on Lake Michigan.

This park has excellent and typically clean shower and bathroom buildings. It offers 127 campsites with 70 of them offering electricity. All of these campgrounds are in walking distance from Lake Michigan but none offering a view of the lake. This park also offers indoor group and outdoor group camp sites! The park also offers two rustic sites. One being for the Ice Age National Scenic trail and one being a kayak campsite which is only accessible from Lake Michigan. Both of these sites are only about a half a mile south of the forest office! The forest office building is beautiful with plenty on display in the clean restrooms. Firewood is also available at the forest office!

There are plenty of amenities near the park as it sits right outside the city of Two Rivers and also not too far from the city of Manitowoc. Being close to the city, there's a grocery store not too far from the park as well as gas stations and shops near the downtown.

Let it be known you do not have to escape the park on weekends for a good meal if you're not in the mood for cooking, this park offers fish fry on Fridays and Saturdays and the food is delicious. It also offers concession stands with snacks and ice cream during the rest of the week.

Be aware of ticks in this park, especially deer ticks. I have personally had a very bad experience during the early fall. I won't go into detail as it was quite a disgusting experience! Despite that, this is a wonderful Park and think it should be on everyone's list for places to camp

      Apple Creek Campground

      Great amenities

Showers, pool, a general store, arcade/game room, stocked fishing pond. We rent a deluxe site monthly and we love it here! Being long term, they pump us out twice a week! Which is great! They take really good care of their guests!

      Apple Creek Campground

Really nice place besides the night time

Really nice place we have been here before but after this trip we learned to stay away from the main park area unless you want to hear kids screaming at 10-11pm and drunk parents cheering them on. Our first visit on the hill was really nice and had a lot of room from neighbors.

      Fairgrounds RV Park

      No frills but perfect

Friendly camp hosts. Nice large sites with even and level grass. There are padded FHU sites available. Immaculate bathrooms and showers. Fresh, clean water at hookups. Very quiet despite being on major roadway. Good value. Would stop again.

      High Cliff State Park Campground

      So much to do here.

This State Park is located along the Niagara Escarpment. The campground is near the bluff and gives a great view of Lake Winnebago. The vault bathrooms are open year-round as is half the campground. During the summer, the store at the marina offers camping gear and there is a restaurant near the golf course outside the park. I camp here regularly, rock climb, and run the trails.

Harrington Beach State Park - Group Campground

A Spacious Setting Near Lake Michigan

The Group Campground at Harrington Beach State Park brings a completely different energy, offering an expansive, open setting that feels made for large family reunions, scout troops, family birthday party overnighters and lively gatherings that stretch long into the evening. Unlike the more intimate family sites, this area is designed for scale, with wide communal spaces, larger fire rings and plenty of room for picnic tables, shared meals and kid-filled games of tag and flag football. We passed through and couldn’t help but smile watching a group roast marshmallows together while another set of kids played flashlight hide-and-seek across the open field. While it is less private and more bustling, this locale creates a joyful sense of togetherness that feels perfect for celebrations and group bonding. While the restroom and shower facilities were mediocre (at best), they were functional and clean. But the real star here is the close proximity to Lake Michigan. I’d recommend this Group Campground for larger parties who want space to spread out, EZ beach access and the freedom to make memories together in a beautiful lakeside setting.

      Harrington Beach State Park Campground

Lake Michigan Sunsets & Firefly Evenings

There is something deeply calming about waking up just steps from Lake Michigan at the Harrington Beach State Park Family Campground, where our little crew found the perfect balance of nature and comfort in a setting that feels both scenic and safe. The campground is well-organized with clearly defined family-sized sites, clean restrooms and EZ access to walking trails and the beach, making it especially friendly for parents juggling gear and excited boys. One of our favorite moments was sitting around the campfire as we tried to stay warm from an early first wave of the winter to come while the sun melted into the lake in soft pink streaks. We loved that everything felt thoughtfully laid out without feeling crowded or chaotic. I would absolutely recommend this campground for families looking for a peaceful getaway with just enough adventure, thanks to its natural beauty, clean facilities, lakefront access and gentle, welcoming atmosphere.

    Guide to Cascade

Camping sites near Cascade, Wisconsin sit in the eastern portion of the state's glaciated landscape, with elevations ranging from 800-1,000 feet above sea level. Summer temperatures can reach 90°F with high humidity, while spring camping often means encountering muddy conditions from snowmelt. Seasonal camping runs primarily from May through October when most facilities are fully operational.

    What to do

Beach swimming: Long Lake Campground offers two separate sand beaches with designated swimming areas. "We went 8/10, weather was nice, beach campground 924 spot was close to showers and restrooms. Good and close place for gateway, its only 2,30 hours from Chicago," notes one visitor.

Trail hiking: The Ice Age Trail runs through several campgrounds with various difficulty levels. A camper at Mauthe Lake Campground shared, "We've been camping here for years and love the beautiful lake for swimming and watersports. No motor boats so nice and quiet. Also great trail running opportunities on the Ice Age."

Fishing: Many campgrounds offer fishing piers and boat launches. "This campground is great for family and offers many wooded sites. The lake is rather shallow so best for swimming in early summer or warm fall days," explains a camper about Long Lake.

Astronomy viewing: The Northern Unit offers designated dark sky areas. "Sunset on the lake is ridiculously beautiful!" remarked one visitor about Mauthe Lake.

    What campers like

Private sites: Campers consistently mention site privacy as a key benefit. A visitor at Harrington Beach State Park Campground noted, "The tent non-electric campsites are fantastic. We had a nice private campsite that was completely wooded all around it."

Clean facilities: Many campgrounds maintain high cleanliness standards. "Very nice, clean and quiet campground. The showers are a bit of a hike from most sites but they are private/individual rooms. Sites aren't too small," shared a Mauthe Lake camper.

Lake access: Proximity to water is highly valued. A camper at Long Lake Campground wrote, "Very nice campground. Sites are decent sized for tenting or small camper. Almost all the sites are surround by trees and small brush so it gives a private feel."

Local food: Some campgrounds have unique food offerings. A Long Lake visitor mentioned, "If you call and place and order, a local baker will deliver fresh, homemade cinnamon rolls to your campsite. You can pay via mobile payment services."

    What you should know

Reservation requirements: Most sites fill quickly during peak season. A camper at Kohler-Andrae State Park advised, "If you plan to camp for a weekend, you must make a reservation way in advance."

Campsite variety: Sites vary significantly within the same campground. "We were in the 800s but hope to get back for more variety in the future," reported one Long Lake visitor, while another noted, "Our site was a bit less secluded than I'd prefer but still very nice."

Water conditions: Lakes can change throughout the season. "The lake is rather shallow so best for swimming in early summer or warm fall days," explained a Long Lake camper.

Pet restrictions: Not all areas welcome pets. "We stayed 700, enough space, good hiking trail, nice beach. But the pet picnic area was pretty disappointing. Just a small opening for a dog jumping in the water. All the nice beach area was not open for a dog," reported a Long Lake visitor.

    Tips for camping with families

Beach selection: Different beaches offer varied experiences for children. At Kettle Moraine State Forest Northern Unit, "We much prefer the South Shore beach. North Shore is a little less populated, but the hike/stairs down into the beach area can be annoying with kids, toys, camp chairs, and a cooler full of food and beer."

Playgrounds: Several campgrounds feature dedicated play areas. One Kohler-Andrae camper noted, "There is a large open area and play area for kids to run around walkable from the camping, lots of little paths to explore!"

Family-friendly sites: Some sites work better for groups with children. A visitor to Harrington Beach mentioned, "Nice size site: 118. Lots of room to spread out. Grassy area for the kids to play."

Local attractions: Nearby towns offer additional activities. "We got caught in a thunderstorm that we waited out in a little tavern in nearby Dundee, which is pretty much the cutest little town around," shared a Long Lake visitor.

    Tips from RVers

Site selection: Not all campgrounds accommodate larger rigs. At Plymouth Rock Camping Resort, a camper reported, "The park is mostly seasonal and the short term sites are literally over a mile of tight, windy road to get to them."

Hookup availability: Electric service varies by location. "Campground facilities are clean, 30 amp at the electrical site worked perfectly," noted a Mauthe Lake visitor.

Road conditions: Interior roads can be challenging. One visitor to Sundance Farm mentioned, "We were reserved, but unable to stay due to having a trailer with a car in it and not being able to unhitch to back into a site."

Seasonal limitations: Many RV sites close early in fall. "The camping season in this region typically runs from May through October, with many full-service sites unavailable after mid-October," reported a camper.
