The campground features spacious, well-maintained sites with full hookups in the West Loop and more secluded, wooded electric sites in the East Loop. Dogs must remain leashed throughout the park while enjoying the extensive trail system surrounding the campground. The campground maintains clean facilities with modern bathrooms and showers that are serviced multiple times daily. Sites are positioned to provide privacy, with many backing up to wooded areas that offer natural spaces for walking pets. The park enforces standard pet policies including waste cleanup and quiet hours to minimize barking disturbances.

The extensive trail network throughout Lebanon Hills provides multiple options for exercising dogs, with hiking paths accessible directly from the campground. Campers note the campground feels remarkably secluded despite its suburban location, offering a wilderness experience without leaving the city. The park includes several lakes where visitors can fish, though swimming is limited to designated beach areas approximately 4 miles from the campground at the Lebanon Hills Visitor Center. Nearby pet-friendly attractions include the Minnesota Zoo, located adjacent to the park. Wildlife viewing opportunities abound with deer, turtles, and other small animals frequently spotted along trails. Frontenac State Park Campground

      Beautiful Bluffs

We decided to make a spontaneous camping trip one weekend and found ourselves at Frontenac. The cart-in site we were at was very spacious but wasn't as secluded as we would have hoped. We didn't feel claustrophobic by any means but we could see several other sites from ours. We went early in the year and maybe the summer growth solves that problem. Bathrooms nearby but no water available. It was also windy enough in the evening that we called it an early night but I think that was just a front movingly through and had less to do with the hill we were on.

We went on a hike that showed off the wonderful bluffs along the Mississippi. As far as camping in Minnesota goes we prefer the options on the North Shore, but really enjoyed Frontenac and will be back to continue exploring.

      Interstate State Park Campground

      Expeditions at Interstate!

This is a state park on the Wisconsin side of the St Croix River, which is mirrored by a comparable but smaller state park in Minnesota on the wrst side of the river, both being part of the wild and scenic St Croix National Waterway. Although the campsites themselves are pretty run of the mill, the setting is spectacular in terms of breathtaking scenery, and myriad outdoor activities from rock climbing in the river gorge, paddling the river, hiking miles of trails, and learning geology at the Ice Age geology visitors center. If you are tenting camping, the south loop is great, and if you pick campsite 65 or 67 you will have direct access to the river which is peaceful and good for paddle opportunities. There are picnic areas with swimming along the river which is nice for group gatherings, and one is designated for folks with pets. Some of the rugged hiking trails along the bluffs and cliffs go right along the edge with minimal guard rails or walls, so keep a close eye on kids and pets because going over the edge is a possibility so utmost caution is advised.

      Dakotah Meadows RV Park

      Quiet and safe

Small little campground next to large casino. We lucked out and were able to stay 2 nights without reservations….only had to move because they were fully booked for the 4th…large concert event happening across the street. You will need to call early in the day to talk to office staff…who are very friendly. If after hours and there are no spots, you can dry dock in large lot in front of office. There is fuel on site as well as RV wash station. Bath house and laundry and card controlled ($5 card deposit on check in)…well maintained facilities. Dog park available, watch a few spots in fence near bottom where fencing has risen up…little dogs could easily climb under. Very convenient for visiting Minneapolis…25/30 minutes from airport/Mall of America (Aquarium) and Security patrols regularly and there is shuttle if you want to visit casino. Pool at hotel is not included. Golf attraction is being completed next door so there was some construction traffic during day as expected.

      Tresure Island RV Park

      Crowded park, nice people

We were here for a night to see a concert at the amphitheater and everyone was super friendly. It was easy to check in, and we were able to do laundry and shower which was great. It’s mostly gravel but they have some tent sites on the grass. They are dog friendly and have some grassy areas to walk your pets which was great.

      Good Campground but Close Sites

Sites are close to each other, but easy access, clean grounds and facilities, friendly staff, and a K9 fenced area for a pet friendly campground.

      Lebanon Hills Regional Park

      Great Campground

We just found this campground in September and this year we've been there 3 times and we live in Montana, there's no place I'd rather stay. It has nice clean bathrooms and it's a great place to walk your pets, they do have 3 different areas to camp but we always use the full hook-ups

The people at check-in are always so friendly, and very helpful.

lots of things in the area to do, and the "city" isn't that far to drive to.

    Guide to Eagan

Lebanon Hills Regional Park offers established campsites within 20 minutes of downtown Minneapolis-St. Paul. Located at 1,100 feet elevation, the park sits on terrain shaped by glacial activity with small kettle lakes scattered throughout the region. The camping season runs from April through mid-October with average summer temperatures ranging from 65-85°F.

    What to do

Paddle the lakes: Rent kayaks and canoes at Lebanon Hills for water exploration. "Nice little lake to kayak on," notes Chris S. about Lebanon Hills Regional Park.

Hiking network: Afton State Park features diverse terrain including prairie, forest and river landscapes. "I hiked 11 miles here and it was awesome!" reports Mike K. about Afton State Park Campground, located 30 minutes east of Eagan.

Golf course access: Cleary Lake Regional Park combines camping with golf opportunities. "The golfing nearby seemed reasonably priced for those interested," mentions Truly W. about the recreational amenities at Cleary Lake Regional Park.

    What campers like

Well-maintained facilities: Baker Park Reserve receives consistent praise for its cleanliness. "The shower house was very clean and roomy and an easy walk from the camp sites," says Joe R. about Baker Campground.

Suburban seclusion: Despite proximity to metropolitan areas, campgrounds offer unexpected privacy. "Lebanon Hills feels very secluded in spite of being so close to the cities," notes Blair, who adds that "tent camp sites are far enough from each other that neighbors can't be seen."

Access to attractions: The region balances natural settings with urban amenities. "Close to the zoo as well as the city," Rico R. remarks about Lebanon Hills, while others mention accessibility to the Mall of America and professional sports venues.

    What you should know

Water conditions: Lake quality varies throughout the season at certain parks. "The only thing disappointing is the lake becomes green with algae as the summer goes on," cautions Kayla O. about Lake Byllesby Regional Park.

Reservation timing: Book early, especially for weekend stays. "Reserve early online, most weekends were already reserved by mid May," advises Blair about Lebanon Hills.

Site layouts: Campground configurations vary widely across the region. "The sites are paved and have well-maintained grass," notes Chris F. about Dakotah Meadows, while others mention more rustic options at parks like Afton.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground options: Several parks feature updated play equipment. "The play area was really nice and looked brand new. Our girls loved making new friends to play with," shares Angela L. about her East Loop stay at Lebanon Hills.

Beach access: Waterfront areas provide warm-weather recreation. "Highlight of this location is beach which is nice for swim and sun bath," reports Alison about Willow River State Park, though she notes the beach "isn't motor vehicle accessible so expect 5-10 min walk."

Wildlife viewing: Children enjoy spotting animals throughout the parks. "We had fun going on a short hike and finding wild blackberries to eat," mentions Angela L. about Lake Byllesby Regional Park.

    Tips from RVers

Concrete parking pads: RV campers appreciate level, solid parking surfaces. "The sites are paved and have well-maintained grass," notes Chris F. about Dakotah Meadows RV Park, which features full hookup options.

Different loop options: Lebanon Hills offers varied RV experiences depending on site preference. Katie C. explains Lebanon Hills has "sites with full hookups or more remote sites with electric that are more tucked away in the pines."

Pet-friendly considerations: Most campgrounds allow pets with standard leashing requirements. The paved trail at Lake Byllesby is "really nice for walking the pups," according to Tonya B., who also notes the campground is "very clean and well kept."
