## Overview

Macks Creek Park is a small campground located on the Boise River Arm of Lucky Peak Lake, just 25 miles from the Boise area and 4 miles off the Ponderosa Pine Scenic Byway. Visitors make the trip to enjoy quality recreational activities like boating, swimming and fishing.

## Recreation

The lake offers family-friendly outdoor recreation opportunities for both travelers and residents of the urban Boise area. Macks Creek Park offers scenic views and convenient access to lake recreation.   
  
Anglers fish for rainbow trout, Kokanee and smallmouth bass. A boat ramp is located within the campground.

## Facilities

This primitive, small park offers a handful of campsites on the shore of Lucky Peak Lake. Clean vault restrooms, hand pumped drinking water and an emergency telephone are provided.   
  
During the recreation season, volunteer camp hosts live on-site and can provide information and assistance to park users.   
  
Parking availability is limited and there is no cell service at the lake. Two businesses within 10 miles offer limited food and services.

## Natural Features

Lucky Peak Lake is located in the foothills of southwestern Idaho on the Boise River at an elevation of 3,055 feet. When full, the lake stretches 12 miles up-river, with 45 miles of shoreline and over 3,000 surface acres of water.   
  
The campground is situated among shady trees along the lakeshore. The surrounding mountains are consistent with sagebrush steppe, dotted with sagebrush and bitterbrush.   
  
A variety of wildlife lives around Lucky Peak, including bald and golden eagles, mule deer, antelope, red-tailed hawks, California quail and chukar. 

## Nearby Attractions

Arrowrock Reservoir, operated by the Bureau of Reclamation, is nearby, as is the beautiful Boise National Forest. These areas provide additional camping, boating, fishing, hiking and sightseeing opportunities.

## Overview

Shafer Butte is located atop the scenic Boise Ridge Mountains, near Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area, at an elevation of 7,000 feet. Visitors enjoy hiking and biking on various trails in the surrounding area, and simply relaxing and taking in the area's beautiful views.

## Recreation

Popular activities in the area include hiking and mountain biking, the Mores Mountain Trail begins in the campground. This 2-mile interpretive nature trail is family friendly. 

## Facilities

Shafer Butte contains single-family tent campsites and two day-use, group picnic areas, all of which are accessible. Sites are equipped with picnic tables and campfire rings, and many of the overnight campsites have tent pads. The overnight sites are walk-in and are clustered close together, with limited vegetation screening for privacy. Accessible vault restrooms are provided, but there is no electricity. Parking spurs and pathways within the campground are paved, and each site can be accessed via a short walking path from the parking area.

## Natural Features

Shafer Butte offers scenic views of Deer Point, Mores Mountain and Shafer Butte summits, as well as the expansive valley below. The campground is situated among Douglas fir and aspen trees, which offer partial shade in most sites. Wildlife and summer wildflowers are abundant in the area.

Shafer Butte

One of the least populated states in America, Idaho is the third state that makes up the Pacific Northwest—besides Oregon and Washington. This is a large and wild state, spanning two time zones and stretching from the Canadian border all the way south to Utah and Nevada. Its vast tracts of old-growth forests, various subranges of the Rocky Mountains and Hells Canyon, America’s deepest canyon, make camping in Idaho an essential thing to do during any visit.


Idaho’s wide variety in landscapes and biotopes, from arid plains to towering mountains, from pristine forests to river canyons, attract an equally varied array of visitors. Fishermen are drawn to the state’s abundant and exceptional fish species. It’s the West’s only inland state where you can catch blue-ribbon trout as well as king salmon and steelhead. Mountain bikers, rock climbers, and boaters find delight camping in Idaho’s wildernesses.


Hiking and camping in Idaho is, however, arguably the state’s most popular outdoor pursuit. And it’s available all across the state. A particularly great destination is the Boise National Forest, the location of the awesome Red Mountain Trail. Other fantastic places to go backpacking and camping in Idaho include Craters of the Moon National Monument, the remarkable Bruneau Dunes State Park and iconic Yellowstone National Park, a sliver of which lies in the state’s southeastern corner.


In the middle of southern Idaho lies Shoshone Falls, a series of huge cascades on the Snake River sometimes referred to as the “Niagara of the West”. The Snake River meanders its way further west, making up the northern part of the Oregon and Idaho border, and flows through massive Hells Canyon. Ten miles wide and almost 8,000 feet deep, this is the deepest river canyon in North America, an absolutely natural gem to explore when camping in Idaho.

## Overview

Grayback Campground is located 36 miles northeast of Boise, Idaho, just off scenic Highway 21. Historic Idaho City is just two miles north of the campground. Visitors enjoy fishing in Mores Creek and exploring the Grayback Gulch Trail. 

## Recreation

Mores Creek can be accessed just below the campground. Anglers fish for whitefish and rainbow trout. Grayback Loop Trail begins within the site, offering a 1-mile footpath for hikers.  
  
Numerous trail opportunities are in the area just north of Idaho City, where hiking, biking, horseback riding and off-road vehicles can be enjoyed. During the winter, the area becomes a playground for back country skiers and snowmobiles.

## Facilities

The campground contains two group sites with picnic and serving tables, grills, campfire circles and paved site pads. Site A can accommodate up to 150 people and 20 vehicles, and site B can accommodate up to 100 people and 15 vehicles. Both sites can be reserved at the same time, for even larger groups.   
  
Several single- and double-family campsites are available as well, each equipped with a picnic table, lantern post and campfire ring with grill. Vault toilets, drinking water and trash collection are provided throughout the campground. A campground host is located directly across the road.

## Natural Features

The campground is situated on a hillside about a quarter-mile above Highway 21, at an elevation of 4,200 feet. A ponderosa pine forest covers the site, offering partial shade. Wildlife and summer wildflowers are abundant in the area.

Highway 21, also known as the Ponderosa Pine Scenic Byway, snakes along Mores Creek to Mores Creek Summit, Gold Fork and Banner Ridge, offering historic sites, hot springs pools and breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and forest along the way to the campground.

Grayback

Overview: A stay at Cottonwood Campground enables guests to enjoy all the beauty and recreation offered around the Middle Fork Boise River and Arrowrock Reservoir. The tiny campground hosts 3 campsites. Weather is usually good from mid-May through late September and is easily accessible by car in good weather, although the road is sometimes rough and the drive can be seemingly long. Checking with the Mountain Ranger District (208-587-7961) on road conditions before heading out is recommended. Natural Features: The campground is situated just north of the reservoir along Cottonwood Creek. There is at a switchback of Forest Service (FS) roads 268 and 377. It is located less than a mile along FS road 377. Wildlife watchers may want to look for deer and elk. Waterfowl, eagles and osprey are attracted to the river. Recreation: Cottonwood Trail begins nearby, leading to Bald Mountain. Check the Idaho City Ranger District Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM) for trails in the area that are open to hikers, equestrians, mountain bikers and off-road vehicles. Click here for an Idaho OHV safety message. Arrowrock Reservoir is a premier fishing destination in southwest Idaho. It offers excellent trout fishing for rainbow and cutthroat trout. There are also good swimming holes. Big game hunting is a popular activity in season. The Middle Fork Boise River is just north of the campground and also offers great fishing.

With 60 pull-thru full hook-up sites; complete with 20,30& 50 amp service, city water, waste dump, asphalt pads, lawns at each site, and shade trees at some sites. Unfortunately, we do not offer cable television with over 50 channels found over the air. Our on-site management ensures a safe, secure, clean, well maintained, and friendly environment. Close to BSU(3.5 miles), close to downtown Boise(4 miles), Boise Airport, restaurants, Green Belt, Boise River, hotels, car rental agencies, museums, hospitals and Boise Towne Square Mall. Coin Operated Laundry Facilities on site. Restrooms& Showers available for all registered guests.

  

We have a 3rd party internet provider who services our network. The network is supported by fiber optics and redistributed throughout the park wirelessly. This network is available to any device that has a "static web browser". Once you log on, you have the option to either utilize a limited free period or purchase 1($3), 7($12) or 30($30) day packages. The free option allows the device to have either 6 continuous hours or 500mbs of data per 24hrs. The 6hr portion of this free option starts from the time the "free button" has been engaged and will run continuously whether you are using the device or not. You are able to utilize the "free button" once per device per 24hrs. 

  

**Reservations STRONGLY SUGGESTED**. Reservation/Confirmation will take place over the phone. Please call during office hours to secure your desired dates. We do not offer cable TV. However, due to our close proximity to downtown Boise, approximately 50+ channels are available over the air depending on your antenna/TV.
