Best RV Parks & Resorts near Kittredge, CO

Several RV parks surround Kittredge, Colorado, providing convenient access to both mountain recreation and Denver metro amenities. Clear Creek RV Park in Golden offers full hookup sites with 50-amp service, operating seasonally from May through September, though it doesn't accommodate big rigs. Dakota Ridge RV Park, also in Golden, provides big-rig friendly sites with concrete pads, full hookups, and 50-amp electrical service. Applewood RV Resort by Rjourney in Wheat Ridge features both 30-amp and 50-amp service on sites that can accommodate larger motorhomes. Idaho Springs RV Resort & Campground, situated farther west, maintains 39 RV sites with full hookups including both 30-amp and 50-amp options. "Sites were VERY CLOSE together so we didn't like that at all," noted one RV traveler about Applewood, highlighting the common space limitations at some parks in this region.

Most RV parks near Kittredge maintain on-site dump stations, though availability varies by season. Navigation to some mountain campgrounds requires careful planning, particularly for larger motorhomes and fifth wheels. While fires are prohibited at several parks including Dakota Ridge and Clear Creek, most facilities offer standard amenities like showers, laundry facilities, and trash service. Pet policies are generally accommodating, with all surveyed parks allowing pets on leash. Cell service remains reliable at most locations due to proximity to urban areas. Fall and summer represent peak camping seasons with advance reservations strongly recommended, especially for weekend stays. Cottonwood RV Campground in Idaho Springs operates year-round with big-rig friendly sites and full hookups, though it lacks shower facilities and restrooms, making it better suited for self-contained RV camping.

    Diamond Campground & RV Park

Rustic campground with a great location.

This location was perfect for exploring the area. It is very close to downtown Woodland Park and many attractions. Deer wander through the campground throughout the day. It is rustic , with dirt/gravel roads and sites. Lots of pine trees and most spots are pull through. Some sites are a little close together but not all of them. Restrooms are clean. Small but nice laundry-room. Clean showers. A nice tent area. Staff was friendly and helpful. Try to get here before the office closes because finding your site may be difficult. It is a little hard to figure out the roads and the proper direction to go to fine your site and get into it.
We were here for 4th of July and there were NO activities. No pool. There is a small playground area and a small stage that has been abandoned. The dog park is at the very back of the property. Everything on our 50 amp site worked perfectly. The site was ample for our toy hauler and truck. Sites are not level, bring proper equipment for leveling. Overall, it has an awesome Colorado vibe and we liked it here. Only downside was layout of sites, no activities. You have to reserve a spot to wash clothes. This became a problem because people reserve large blocks of time and don’t show up. I couldn’t use laundry, so be forewarned.

    Denver West-Central City KOA

    Mountain High

Yes Mountain High!! 8100’ high. 7 miles off I-70 at Idaho Springs. 25 miles into outskirts of Denver. Don’t worry they have oxygen! Not kidding!!

Nice campground, friend staff, laundry, fun little gift shop with some food stuffs, beer and liquor. Pizza cooked there but we didn’t try it.

Our space was a big rig space on concrete pad with ample seating, a table, a fire pit, and a propane grill stove… use you own propane! Full hook ups. It was still reaching freezing at night and so we didn’t hook up our water.

    Lone Rock Campground

    Line Rock review

We love this campground due to the river access. The do have potable water but it tastes pretty bad, so brIng drinking/cooking water. Most, if not all sites, have a picnic table and fire pit. During reservable season (Memorial Day to Labor Day I believe), the campground host usually has firewood for sale. No cell service, no electric. We hear that the cafe In Deckers may be getting wifi. The campground is open all year but the water is shut off in the winter. Sites are close to each other.

Glacier Basin Campground — Rocky Mountain National Park

    Wonderful Stay

I have a 22’ travel trailer I pull behind an F150. Since this campground is inside Rocky Mountain National Park, the roads are all paved.

The campground sites are situated around one-way driving loops, which are quite narrow. Best to pay attention to which side of the loop your site is on so your trailer door doesn’t open up onto the road. I think they error on the side of caution when it comes to the size of trailer fitting into each spot. At least for mine. They said max 26’ (trailer + tow vehicle), but I’m closer to 32’ and I fit fine. That may not be true of all campsites though. There is parking very close by if your tow vehicle can’t squeeze into the site.

My site didn’t have a whole lot of trees, but they planted a bunch of small ones to try and fix this years from now. Sites were level and had lots of space. Each had a fire pit and picnic table.

There were no hookups and no cell service (Verizon). They did have trash drop offs, water for cleaning pans and dishes, and bathrooms. It was very quiet at night. Generators are allowed but only for a couple times a day during short windows.

Glacier Basin campground is just a few miles from the Bear Lake trailhead. It was very nice to stay inside the park. Vehicle passes to get into National Parks were still required when I stayed and the lines to get in were very long and slow.

    Flatiron Reservoir Campground

    Disappointed

We stayed at site F03 from June 8–14 (we left a day early) and were very disappointed in the condition of this campground.

We live full-time in our motorhome and have traveled extensively across the country. Sadly, this was one of the worst campsites we’ve stayed at. The grass was extremely overgrown, the bushes and trees were encroaching on the site, and the water spigot in our area was non-functional. The site itself was so steep that we had to pull in forward just to attempt leveling our Class A RV—completely unsuitable for big rigs.

Adding to that, this is not a full hookup site. You're paying over $50 per night (after the additional $10 vehicle charge) for electricity only, with the nearest dump station 7 miles away. That price is far too high for what’s offered, especially given the lack of maintenance.

To their credit, the park office was understanding and did refund two nights of our stay, which we appreciated. However, we left a day early and will not be returning.

East Portal Campground at Estes Park

    Clean, quiet and beautiful.

Family friendly campground at the end of a quiet road near RMNP. Quiet, no generators heard as big rigs won’t fit! Tents, vans, car camping and camper trailers fit well. Clean bathrooms, hot showers, friendly hosts, ice and fire wood for sale. Big playground and not crazy expensive.

    Colorado Campground

Great location for exploring Colorado Springs and the area

This Pike National Forest campground is run by Rocky Mountain Recreation which means you'll pay a $10 transaction fee if you make a reservation on recreation.gov. It looks like some sites are strictly walk-up. Check recreation.gov to see what's available, but you can just show up if there are available sites, pay at the self-pay station, and avoid the $10 transaction fee on recreation.gov.

Every site has a picnic table and fire ring. Vault toilets (rather fragrant as you walk by because of the vent pipes) and trash dumpsters are conveniently located throughout the campground as is potable water. There are no bear-proof lockers but locking up your food is a prudent move.

There are mostly back in sites but some pull through sites. Most of the pull through sites are partially protected from the road by a few tall pines and large rocks, but the pull through curve may be tight for some RVs. There are a few double sites (with double charge) if you need more space.

Manitou Lake on the edge of the campground is a popular fishing spot, and there's a trail around the lake.

Our site (#45) was rather close to the road, but the road noise was not bad throughout the park. Sites 40 through 44 are on a small loop and are probably the nicest sites even with a bit of road noise; these sites are near the trail to the lake.

In my opinion, there are two things that make this campground stand out: 1) The sites are large and not on top of each other. This campground could have twice as many sites, but it's nice that it doesn't. 2) It's a great location because you're close to Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument, US Air Force Academy, Cripple Creek (only if you're into gambling), lots of hiking trails...and on and on. It's close to Colorado Springs and even closer to Woodland Park. If you want craft breweries and restaurants, you'll find plenty. We enjoyed being close to a larger city after being in lots of small towns. We loved the inexpensive food at Uchenna (Ethiopian and Mediterranean), Taste of Jerusalem, and Azada Mexican as well as craft beer (Fossil Craft Beer Company and Phantom Canyon Brewing Company with ginger wheat ale, Belgian ale aged on cherries, hazelnut coffee stout, coconut/chocolate porter, and on and on) in Colorado Springs. Beer is $3 during a 3 to 6 pm happy hour at Phantom Canyon....yes!

This campground is only open between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day.

    Moraine Loop Campground

    Water front campsites are gorgeous

About 45 minutes from Grand Lake entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park. 9 mile dirt road to get to the campground. Nice level sites each with picnic/tent area. Vault toilets were clean. No water fill, dump stations, showers or flush toilets. Hosts said the camp was packed from 4th July until Aug 20th

Guide to Kittredge

RV camping near Kittredge, Colorado offers year-round options with different seasonal considerations. The town sits at approximately 7,000 feet elevation in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, surrounded by national forest lands. Summer temperatures typically range from 45-80°F with afternoon thunderstorms common, while winter lows can drop below freezing with occasional snow accumulation from October through April.

What to do

Hiking nearby: Clear Creek RV Park provides convenient access to local trail systems. "The bike bath and creek are nice," notes one visitor, who appreciated that the campground is "located perfectly a walk, or bike ride, away from the town of Golden."

Mountain exploration: Dakota Ridge RV Park serves as a strategic base for visiting higher elevation areas. "This campground allows easy access to Denver, Golden, and the foothills," shares one camper, mentioning you can "walk up the hill to the open space adjacent to the campground for a view of the mountains and the city."

Urban adventures: Use regional campgrounds to access Denver attractions. One visitor at Applewood RV Resort noted, "The bus to Union Station leaves every hour just outside the campground - so with an easy 30 min trip, you are in the center of Denver! Could not be any easier when camping without a car."

What campers like

Proximity to amenities: Campgrounds near Kittredge offer convenience while maintaining a mountain feel. "The location to downtown Golden, the friendly staff who will help you in any way, and the views are all incredible," mentions one guest at Clear Creek RV Park.

Family recreation: Many parks feature kid-friendly amenities. One camper observed Dakota Ridge RV Park "has a pool and hot tub. The play set for kids is small. The bathrooms are very clean."

Natural surroundings: Even in more urban parks, wildlife viewing opportunities exist. At Diamond Campground, visitors report, "Deer wander through the campground throughout the day. It is rustic, with dirt/gravel roads and sites. Lots of pine trees and most spots are pull through."

What you should know

Spacing challenges: Many RV parks in this region have compact sites. At Applewood RV Resort by Rjourney, one reviewer mentioned, "Spots are VERY CLOSE together so we didn't like that at all. Definitely not the Colorado outdoorsy feel."

Mixed customer service: Experience varies significantly between parks. "The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The laundry facility was clean and well kept," noted one visitor at Prospect RV Park (now Applewood).

Limited site options: Not all parks can accommodate large rigs. "Must be an experienced driver to navigate the tight lots and roads," warned one reviewer about Diamond Campground & RV Park.

Highway proximity: Road noise can be an issue at some locations. A Dakota Ridge visitor mentioned, "Colfax Road is extremely busy & unfortunately loud. The property has seen better days."

Tips for camping with families

Outdoor play spaces: Idaho Springs RV Resort & Campground offers family-friendly amenities. "This is a great spot! We stayed at site 39 and it was perfectly level with beautiful surroundings. Great view of the mountains right outside our window," shares a recent visitor.

City recreation access: Utilize nearby urban parks for kids. One Dakota Ridge visitor reports, "There is a large green belt with ponds, a park, biking and walking path as well as Clear Creek."

Alternative activities for rainy days: Weather in the foothills can change rapidly. "Close to Prospect lake so a good place to walk dogs," notes one camper, providing options when outdoor activities aren't ideal.

Tips from RVers

Seasonal planning: Diamond Campground & RV Park in nearby Woodland Park operates seasonally from May to September. One RVer appreciated the location: "This park is definitely well visited, but for good reason. It is located in Woodland Park, a lovely mountain town about 30-40 min. outside Colorado Springs."

Connectivity considerations: Working remotely is possible at many area campgrounds. "Good cell reception and easy to work while on the road," notes one visitor at Diamond Campground, while another at Dakota Ridge reports, "Cell Service: 3 bars of 5Ge on AT&T. My personal hotspot worked great here."

Utility hookups: Be prepared for variable electrical connections. Some parks offer only specific amp services. At Cottonwood RV Campground in Idaho Springs, visitors should note this is primarily for self-contained units as it operates "with big-rig friendly sites and full hookups, though it lacks shower facilities and restrooms."
