Tranquil Timbers Camping Resort in Sturgeon Bay accepts pets with multiple recreation options including a pool, mini-golf, and tennis courts. Most campgrounds in the Door County area maintain pet-friendly policies with standard leash requirements, though some enforce strict noise rules as barking dogs may not be tolerated at certain properties. Harbour Village Resort and Countryside Motel & RV Sites provide pet-friendly accommodations across various lodging types including tents, RVs, and cabins. Potawatomi State Park's Daisy Field Campground offers spacious wooded sites with direct access to hiking trails suitable for leashed dogs. Campgrounds typically provide fire rings with cooking grates, picnic tables, and access to clean restroom facilities. Several campers note that while sites accommodate pets, some campgrounds enforce territorial boundaries between sites.

Hiking trails throughout the Door County peninsula provide excellent opportunities for pet exercise, particularly at Potawatomi State Park where the Ice Age Trail begins its 1,200-mile route through Wisconsin. The trails offer scenic views of Green Bay and Lake Michigan with multiple observation points. Many campgrounds position sites strategically near water views though direct water access for pets varies by location. The proximity to Sturgeon Bay allows convenient access to veterinary services and pet supplies when needed. Weather conditions can change rapidly in this peninsula environment, particularly in spring and fall, requiring adequate shelter for pets. Most campgrounds maintain quiet hours with enforcement of barking policies, especially at properties with closely spaced sites. The best camping experiences with pets occur at parks featuring wider site spacing and natural barriers between neighboring campsites.

Daisy Field Campground — Potawatomi State Park

      Entry to the Great Lakes!

Potawatomi State Park in Wisconsin sits in the northeast corner of the state in Door County Wisconsin. This is one of five state parks in the area and if you're making your way into Door County it is the first Park in Door County up Highway 42 and due West. This area of the state is the gem of Wisconsin and not just for tourist reasons. The topography in this part of the state is phenomenal. Potawatomi State Park is just before the city of Sturgeon Bay Wisconsin. This is a major port from the Bay of Green Bay into Lake Michigan. In Sturgeon Bay there are many shops, restaurants, pubs, art studios, and even a Walmart and Target if needed. The views from the shipyards will leave you in awe if this isn't a familiar sight. Potawatomi state park is the Eastern Terminus of the Ice Age Trail which covers 1200 plus miles in the state and 1 of 11 National Scenic Trails in the country. The park offers modern facilities with showers and flush toilets. The park offers excellent hiking trails and biking trails with views of ships coming and going from Lake Michigan and into Sturgeon Bay. The park offers a newly constructed observation tower. Once you reach the top, you will have spectacular views of the Bay of Green Bay as well as the rest of Door County, Wisconsin. The campgrounds are split into two sections. The Southern campground is a bit more wooded compared to the North campground, but I prefer the North sites as it offered more of a variety of campsites, meaning they don't all look the same. There is a camp store at the park as well as a small playground for the little ones. There are plenty of picnic areas especially on the shore but there is no beach at the park. There is a boat landing and fishing pier and this area can be busy as it is a popular spot for boaters to launch your boat.

This is a great park to start your vacation in Door County even if it's just to take in the sights. It is an even better place to stay if you want to be close to amenities but away from the tourists in the area. Amenities are not far, plan on a 5-10 min drive. This is my park of preference for camping in this area!

Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park in Door County

      Jolly good fun in Jellystone

The campground is well-maintained and offers great access to a small public beach on Riley Bay (a small bay off of Green Bay) and to Sturgeon Bay in Wisconsin’s scenic Door County. The amenities advertised were available. The park offered septic pump-out service for an extra $15 per pump and was worth the cost. The park was flat but above the surrounding marshes/moors; water pooled in several places after overnight rains, swamping a handful of the campsites for at least a day.

Daisy Field Campground — Potawatomi State Park

Nice little out of the way park.

Note that there is no beach. The best little camp store I've ever seen (ice cream to wood to equipment). Close to Sturgeon Bay, so you can run into town for supplies.

Daisy Field Campground — Potawatomi State Park

      Less secluded than expected

Good campground with clean bathrooms and showers. Very close to Sturgeon Bay. The sites were a little less secluded than we expected but weren't on top of each other by any means.

Daisy Field Campground — Potawatomi State Park

      Awesome views

We used a tent set up with a couple of friends and found it to be a good time. There’s a ton of trails with some good views of Sturgeon Bay. The proximity to town makes it super convenient and acts as a good jumping place to see the rest of the Door County Peninsula.

      Door county get away

We showed up late Friday due to some issues with our pop up. The lady called and asked when we were arriving that was so nice. The campsites are tightly packed but luckily we got a nice wide open one right next to the perfectly cleaned bathrooms and showers. I loved that they have a social gathering spot with movies and djs. The pool is small but clean they have a nice 1 foot deep separate pool for the little kids. Everyone was pretty much nice we only had one lady come scold us cause our dog slipped out of his harness for a few minutes she was right on top of us lol. It’s located close to downtown sturgeon bay which was nice! We had lunch at Mary’s on the beach and the crabcakes were awesome. Our waitress was too cool and when my fiancé told her my drink had no booze she promptly brought me a new one with a lot of liquor lol. Wood nearby at houses on the side of the road. Would definitely go back!

Daisy Field Campground — Potawatomi State Park

      Shady place

We stayed hier for two nights at site 95. This site is without electricity and very shady. The use of generators is prohibited. The observation tower in the north part of the park ist permanently closed. You can rent bikes and get to Sturgeon Bay.

    Guide to Sturgeon Bay

    What to do

Hiking near water access: Daisy Field Campground at Potawatomi State Park provides direct trail connections. "Love camping here. Tone of hiking for all kinds of people!" notes Megan J. The park features multiple observation points along the trails.

Mini golf and recreation: Tranquil Timbers offers recreational options beyond hiking. "We have been camping here for a few years now multiple times a year. We love this place. Quiet. Lots to do for kids. Pool, mini golf, game room, tennis courts, soccer, volleyball a rec center with games, TV ect," explains Ann S.

Waterpark activities: For families seeking water recreation, Harbour Village Resort provides multiple pool options. "Great for families of all sizes and ages. Waterpark with little kids zero entry pool, adults only pool, swimming pond with nice sand beach," says Jenny F., highlighting the variety of water-based options available.

    What campers like

Wooded privacy: Many campers value the secluded feel of certain sites. At Potawatomi State Park, John B. notes, "The site is awesome. It's heavily wooded with lots of space between sites." This natural separation creates a more private camping experience.

Clean facilities: Campers frequently mention the maintenance of bathrooms and showers as important factors. "The bathrooms and shower house were clean. The heated pool was nice on cool nights," reports Amanda W. about Frontier Wilderness Campground, showing the value placed on these facilities.

Strategic location: Proximity to both nature and town appeals to many visitors. Craig R. says of Tranquil Timbers, "Nice, quiet campground. Family oriented and right next to a state park for hiking, biking & running. Spacious sites with fire ring & table. Great place to explore the peninsula from."

    What you should know

Site spacing varies: Different campgrounds offer varying levels of privacy between sites. "Good campground with clean bathrooms and showers. Very close to Sturgeon Bay. The sites were a little less secluded than we expected but weren't on top of each other by any means," reports Erin P. about Potawatomi State Park.

Pet policies differ: While many campgrounds accept pets, the enforcement of rules varies. At Tranquil Timbers, Amanda W. cautions, "Tranquil Timbers advertises pet friendly but they ARE NOT pet friendly. If your dog makes any kind of noise whatsoever, they are NOT welcome."

Weekend noise levels: Some campgrounds experience higher noise levels on weekends. Scott W. notes about Harbour Village: "Our only complaint was that there was a HUGE party at the RV sites. Music blasting so loud from 7pm - 11:30pm. (Quiet hours are from 11pm - 8am)."

    Tips for camping with families

Multiple playground options: Harbour Village Resort offers extensive children's activities. Jenny F. explains, "Great for families of all sizes and ages. Waterpark with little kids zero entry pool, adults only pool, swimming pond with nice sand beach, tennis, basketball, soccer, beaseball/kickball, pedal bike rental, hayrides, outdoor theater."

Family-friendly amenities: Door County KOA Holiday provides specific amenities for children. Megan reports, "The kids love this place! With 2 pools, water slide, and splash pad, they are always busy and happy! The bathroom and shower building is wonderful and kept very clean."

Quieter sections for families: If seeking a less busy experience, choose certain sections within larger campgrounds. At Door County KOA Holiday, Andrew C. suggests, "We have stayed in a field site as well as wooded sites. The field sites are good for groups and going with friends, if you are looking for a quiet low key experience then go to a wooded site."

    Tips from RVers

Full hookup variations: Not all sites offer the same level of services. Ken F. notes about Countryside Motel & RV Sites, "Water and electric only. Located near very small village couple taverns and a mini mart. Less than a mile from the waters of Green Bay."

Free pump service: Some campgrounds offer additional services for RVs without sewer hookups. Amanda W. shares about Frontier Wilderness: "I was worried about not having a sewer hookup but their free pump service more than made up for it. We will definitely visit again!"

Pull-through availability: RVers looking for easy access should note campgrounds with pull-through sites. "We had a large, private pull through site. There was a pool and a slow water slide for the kids," mentions Melissa H. about her experience at pet-friendly camping near Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin.
