Willow River State Park Campground welcomes pets throughout its 100-200 loops, offering campers with dogs access to wooded sites and hiking trails. Lebanon Hills Regional Park provides full hookup sites for RVs and tent camping areas where pets are permitted, with clean facilities and multiple camping areas. Both parks maintain pet-friendly policies requiring leashes and proper waste disposal. William O'Brien State Park and Afton State Park also accommodate pets at their campsites, with Afton offering additional cabin options for those camping with dogs. Interstate State Park features designated pet swimming areas along the St. Croix River, allowing dogs to cool off during summer camping trips. The campgrounds provide picnic tables, fire rings, and access to toilets and showers, creating comfortable experiences for both pets and their owners. One of the best dog parks in Minnesota can be found at nearby Crow Hassan Park Reserve.

Hiking trails throughout these pet-friendly campgrounds provide excellent opportunities for exercising dogs on leash. The St. Croix River offers peaceful paddling opportunities with pets at Interstate State Park, though visitors should keep a close eye on dogs near the bluffs and cliffs where minimal guardrails present potential hazards. Elm Creek Horse Camp accommodates dogs who are comfortable around horses, with mostly level ground perfect for tents and sturdy dog beds. Visitors note that while sites at many campgrounds aren't particularly private, the trails offer plenty of new smells, shaded stretches, and wildlife viewing opportunities for dogs. Campers should be prepared with bug spray during summer months, as mosquitoes can be abundant in these wooded camping areas. Most campgrounds enforce quiet hours after 10 pm, helping ensure barking dogs don't disturb neighboring campers.

      Interstate State Park Campground

      Expeditions at Interstate!

This is a state park on the Wisconsin side of the St Croix River, which is mirrored by a comparable but smaller state park in Minnesota on the wrst side of the river, both being part of the wild and scenic St Croix National Waterway. Although the campsites themselves are pretty run of the mill, the setting is spectacular in terms of breathtaking scenery, and myriad outdoor activities from rock climbing in the river gorge, paddling the river, hiking miles of trails, and learning geology at the Ice Age geology visitors center. If you are tenting camping, the south loop is great, and if you pick campsite 65 or 67 you will have direct access to the river which is peaceful and good for paddle opportunities. There are picnic areas with swimming along the river which is nice for group gatherings, and one is designated for folks with pets. Some of the rugged hiking trails along the bluffs and cliffs go right along the edge with minimal guard rails or walls, so keep a close eye on kids and pets because going over the edge is a possibility so utmost caution is advised.

      Dakotah Meadows RV Park

      Quiet and safe

Small little campground next to large casino. We lucked out and were able to stay 2 nights without reservations….only had to move because they were fully booked for the 4th…large concert event happening across the street. You will need to call early in the day to talk to office staff…who are very friendly. If after hours and there are no spots, you can dry dock in large lot in front of office. There is fuel on site as well as RV wash station. Bath house and laundry and card controlled ($5 card deposit on check in)…well maintained facilities. Dog park available, watch a few spots in fence near bottom where fencing has risen up…little dogs could easily climb under. Very convenient for visiting Minneapolis…25/30 minutes from airport/Mall of America (Aquarium) and Security patrols regularly and there is shuttle if you want to visit casino. Pool at hotel is not included. Golf attraction is being completed next door so there was some construction traffic during day as expected.

      Tresure Island RV Park

      Crowded park, nice people

We were here for a night to see a concert at the amphitheater and everyone was super friendly. It was easy to check in, and we were able to do laundry and shower which was great. It’s mostly gravel but they have some tent sites on the grass. They are dog friendly and have some grassy areas to walk your pets which was great.

St Croix Casino and Hotel RV Park

      Amazing

Staying here currently & they have been very accommodating, friendly & flexible. Water & electric hookup but no sewer however there is a dump station, a bathhouse with real toilets & nice showers. Pretty quiet for being so close to the main highway. My cats are able to free roam the property & my dog can be tied up outside. Usually pretty nice neighbors too.

      Minneapolis Northwest KOA

      Good Campground but Close Sites

Sites are close to each other, but easy access, clean grounds and facilities, friendly staff, and a K9 fenced area for a pet friendly campground.

      St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park

      Top Shelf

Beautiful, spacious, trees but open. Nice trails, clean restrooms, level sites. No alcohol allowed and no pets! Fire rings, sturdy picnic table. Electric and water.

I made reservations online and when we arrived they said I had reserved a place at Elmo Lake which was 20 miles away. Same 2 county facilities but different campgrounds. Oops my bad. Different addresses!

      Lebanon Hills Regional Park

      Great Campground

We just found this campground in September and this year we've been there 3 times and we live in Montana, there's no place I'd rather stay. It has nice clean bathrooms and it's a great place to walk your pets, they do have 3 different areas to camp but we always use the full hook-ups

The people at check-in are always so friendly, and very helpful.

lots of things in the area to do, and the "city" isn't that far to drive to.

    Guide to Hudson

Campgrounds near Hudson, Wisconsin provide overnight options along the St. Croix River valley where Wisconsin meets Minnesota. Most sites sit at elevations between 700-900 feet, with terrain varying from river bluffs to wooded rolling hills. Summer temperatures typically range from 55-85°F with humidity levels averaging 70-80% during peak camping season from May through September. Winter camping is available at select locations where sites remain accessible during snow conditions.

    What to do

Hiking seasonal trails: The 11-mile network at Afton State Park Campground offers varying difficulties across prairie and forested terrain. "I hiked 11 miles here and it was awesome!" reports Mike K., while another camper warns about seasonal water issues: "None of the water faucets or water pumps on the trails at Afton State Park are working. The good news is you can fill up on cold drinking water at the visitor center before trekking around the park's beautiful hiking trails!"

Disc golf courses: Hoffman Park in River Falls maintains an on-site course suitable for beginners and intermediate players, with rental discs available for $5 at the campground office. "There is the Tir Angels playground, sand volleyball, frisbee golf, and a semi pro baseball field all located with in the grounds! So much to do, so little time!" notes Mary H.

Kayak and canoe access: Willow River State Park Campground offers watercraft rentals during summer months at reasonable rates. As Chris S. notes, "Nice hiking trails, nice lake that rents kayaks and canoes, and a beautiful waterfall at the end of the hiking trail. They do empty out the lake every so often, so be aware of that."

    What campers like

Riverside camping views: At Apple River Family Campground, the waterfront sites provide direct river access. "We had a river front site (63) and the river sites are AMAZING! The tubing is obviously fun and this campground has tree cover unlike anything I've ever seen!" explains Mariah F. The sites numbered 60-70 offer the most direct water views.

Secluded tent camping: Lebanon Hills Regional Park provides tent sites with substantial buffer zones between neighbors. "Tent camp sites are far enough from each other that neighbors can't be seen, and we didn't hear them either," notes one camper, adding "The only criticisms we have are that you can hear road noise — and depending on your site you'll hear the alarm of one of the access gates for the Minnesota Zoo."

Winter camping options: Year-round accessibility at several parks provides off-season solitude. According to David K., "I visited William O'Brien in the middle of February with two college roommates. As you can imagine, this meant snow was everywhere in the heart of winter in Minnesota. We decided to take a night trek through the park. The moon was very bright that night so visibility was excellent."

    What you should know

Varying levels of site privacy: Site spacing can differ dramatically between campgrounds and even within loops. At Willow River State Park Campground, camper Maria D. reports, "We stayed at Site 133 and found it to be fairly spacious. One downside was that there's a trail running just behind the site, and several campers cut through our area to access it, which disrupted the sense of privacy."

Water feature status changes: Lake levels at several parks fluctuate seasonally or due to management decisions. "Willow River State Park no longer has a beach or a lake, but they are working on the dam to refill the lake once again," explains Jessica B., while another camper mentions at Interstate State Park, "Interstate State Park features a riverboat cruises by frequently, blasting music in the evenings and giving tours during the day."

Seasonal bathroom access: Winter camping often means limited or no shower access. Many campgrounds reduce services during colder months, with bathrooms either winterized or providing only vault toilets. During summer, most maintain regular cleaning schedules, with a camper noting, "The bathroom facility near the ranger station was very well maintained and cleaned several times a day."

    Tips for camping with families

Playground accessibility: Select sites near recreational areas to minimize walking with small children. At Hoffman Park, one camper shares, "This is a first come, first serve park and when we showed up it was full. But the park manager made a spot for us anyway and hooked us up next to the maintenance shed. He checked in on us every day and was so kind and accommodating. The park has a few playgrounds, skate park, disc golf, and clean bathrooms."

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Interstate State Park offers guided ranger programs focused on local animals during summer months. "Not only is this area unique in its rock walls and terrain, but the nearby little towns make a wonderful rainy day trip with plenty of hometown stores to shop. But when the weather is nice you will never find yourself bored with all of the trails and different sights to see," suggests Conor P.

Water safety considerations: Riverfront camping requires extra vigilance with children. The St. Croix and Apple Rivers have unpredictable currents. At Apple River Family Campground, one camper notes, "The tubing is obviously fun and this campground has tree cover unlike anything I've ever seen!" while another advises bringing personal flotation devices for all children regardless of swimming ability.

    Tips from RVers

Electric hookup variability: Check amperage before booking as not all parks offer 50-amp service. At Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Regional Park, sites provide 30-amp connections suitable for most recreational vehicles but may require adapter use for larger units. One camper describes it as, "Decent amenities, however NOT the feel of a State Park. Think suburbia meets nature."

Site length accuracy: Actual usable space may differ from listed measurements. As one camper at Lebanon Hills notes, "Sites are a little close with little to no privacy in most. Reservation system is weird and the sites are much bigger than they say. All rv sites are the listed length plus 16' for your tow vehicle, which you need to call to find out."

Dump station access: Most pet-friendly campgrounds near Hudson offer sanitary stations, but hours may be limited. William O'Brien State Park maintains a clean dump station open from 8am-8pm during summer months. Lebanon Hills features a pull-through style station allowing easier access for larger rigs. One camper mentions, "The campground staff checked us in quickly, and gave us the rundown on all the amenities."
