Chippoke Virginia State Park

We spent 3 nights at this park. It's a wonderful place. Great showers & restrooms. Large swimming pool but it was closed. Water & Electric. No sewer but a nice dump place. The host was extremely nice & helpful.

County-run, and it shows?

The good news- campground is right along the river and has a large pool. The bad news- the place is overrun with fishermen launching boats before dawn. And I mean 25-50 trucks/trailers/boats each morning.

Our site was large, but we ended up in a non-sewer lot. Weird, as I booked this trip 6…

Chickahominey Riverfront Park ho-hum

Small campground, not well managed, only a few RV sites with shade. If your site isn't by the water you may never see it. The showers are so-so but are better then some worse then others. Has a nice pool, frisbee golf course, fishing pier, boat rental, and boating access to the river. Plus a cool…

And another great VA State Park!

Love Chippokes! Feels country-esque but also like you're on a plantation! Beautiful trails. Great (paved) campground! Feels like you're a million miles away from it all.

Decent Campground

My daughter needed to move out of her dorm at ECU and this was the closest campground that had a site available over Labor Day weekend. We were happy to be as close to her as we could get, and we appreciated being able to stay at this campground for 2 weeks.

This KOA is taking COVID serious,…

  • The sites are fairly close. If you look at the top left corner of the table, you'll see where our neighbor's sewer connection goes.
  • Site 25 just prior to departure.

Beautiful Plantation

Awesome things to see here! It’s been a working farm since 1619 with beautiful gardens and livestock. The mansion and outbuildings are pretty cool as well.

Restrooms were not very clean. Each time I went to the ladies room, the door was propped wide open, and when I went to brush my teeth in the…

Meh

Ok for a overnight stay. Gnats are terrible. Neighboring camp sites sewer hook right next to us. Luckily nobody was using it. Pool looks nice and the kids liked the small playground

Let down...

This KOA was kind of depressing! The bathhouse was under renovation for some time. Way too long. Pool was closed.

Summer camping at Chippokes

Love this park. Lots of biting flies and mosquitoes during the summer! The left loop sites are a good size but not much shade or privacy. I would definitely stay in the right loop area next time for tent camping. Newer bathrooms and showers. Pretty basic camping setup with fire ring and picnic…

New to this site! Had a great time staying here, very peaceful and quiet, stayed in a cabin for one full week, plenty of exploring to do with the dogs. Toured the mansion and also Bacon’s Castle which is not far away, and road on the Ferry visiting Williamsburg. Definitely a great place to camp and…

Great place to go with kids

Great park with SO much to do. The hike down to the river isn’t bad, my 2 year old did it. The River bank is known for a great place to find shark teeth and fossils. Though, there was also a decent amount of trash. There are several play grounds, tours of the mansions, swimming pool, and a…
