Lancaster County offers diverse pet-friendly camping near Stevens, Pennsylvania, with most locations situated between 900-1,200 feet elevation. The region experiences moderate seasonal changes with summer temperatures typically ranging from 70-85°F, ideal for outdoor activities. Several campgrounds feature creek access that's particularly welcome during hot summer months.
What to do
Creek exploration: French Creek State Park offers multiple water-based recreation options. "There are two lakes, Hopewell Lake and Scott's Run Lake that you can fish, kayak, canoe or just relax by. There are several warm water fish in the lakes including northern pike, chain pickerel, bass, walleye, muskellunge and several types of panfish," notes Jen R.
Visit Amish country: Beacon Hill Camping provides easy access to authentic Amish experiences. "Located w/in walking distance of small town of Intercourse, PA, with plenty of shopping and Amish crafts. Very friendly people," states John H. The campground sits adjacent to working Amish farms, offering cultural insights without the tourist crowds.
Family attractions: Old Mill Stream Campground connects directly to popular attractions. "This Campground is in the town of Lancaster, close to everything. A little complicated getting in, you need to turn in at the Cartoon Network Hotel driveway," explains Emily L. The location provides convenient access to Dutch Wonderland amusement park and other family destinations.
What campers like
Privacy between sites: Many campers appreciate the natural separation at French Creek State Park. "All sites have a paved level area which made set up a breeze. Sites were not on top of each other. Bathrooms were very nice and clean with large showers," shares Jen R.
Clean facilities: Starlite Camping Resort maintains high cleanliness standards that guests consistently notice. "Starlite offers a wide variety of amenities such as a community pool, general store, snack bar, playground area, toilets, indoor shower stalls, daily activities, pets permitted, water/electric utilities and laundry units. Staff was very friendly! Loved the cleanliness and atmosphere as well!" comments Brie A.
Scenic views: Lancaster-New Holland KOA offers spectacular countryside vistas. "Best kept secret in the area. Peaceful, beautiful valley views of Amish country," says Angie G. The elevated position provides sweeping views across working farms and rolling hills, particularly at sunset.
What you should know
Pet restrictions vary: While most campgrounds accept pets, rules differ significantly. At Hickory Run Family Camping Resort, "The 'pet loop' was clearly geared towards RVs etc. All of the sites are full electric and more than a few have very little space for a family size tent to be safely away from the fire ring," reports John S.
Bathroom quality fluctuates: Facility quality can vary widely between campgrounds and even within loops. "The bathhouse had individual bathrooms and showers. Each was pretty clean and spacious," notes Phinon W. about Spring Gulch, while at Hickory Run a camper observed, "While the bathrooms were something out of a horror movie, this park is gorgeous."
Seasonal considerations: Lake-In-Wood Campground offers year-round options with indoor facilities during cooler months. "Very nice and clean campground. Store, pool and cafe. Firewood and minature golf available. Nice fishing in the lake," shares Edward M. Many campgrounds in the region reduce services during off-season.
Tips for camping with families
Activity options: Seek campgrounds with diverse recreation. "We went for the weekend and loved it. Already looking to book another trip. Very clean campground," says Ricky R. about Lake-in-Wood. Multiple campgrounds feature mini-golf, arcades, and seasonal activities for children.
Swimming access: During summer months, pools provide welcome relief. At Thousand Trails Circle M, "They have an indoor and outdoor pool. Nice playground. We were down by the river and had a lot of room on our site," explains Leanne B.
Space considerations: For families needing room to spread out, certain sites offer advantages. "We had two sites this trip with water and electric, but they do have quite a few full hook-up sites. Overall the sites were large, with trees between, providing additional privacy," notes Craig F. about Starlite Camping Resort.
Tips from RVers
Site leveling: Many campgrounds feature pre-leveled spaces for easy setup. "We got pretty lucky and were assigned one of the concrete pads that was pretty level. It is absolutely beautiful out. The grounds are well-kept," shares Nick E. about Thousand Trails Circle M.
Power requirements: The hilly terrain around Stevens demands adequate power. "This is a great family run campground. The store is nice, bathhouses are clean and private. Owners are super nice. There is also a great view of the surrounding countryside because it's up on a big hill. If you're hauling a big camper you'll need power for the hills," advises Chris G. about Starlite Camping Resort.
Hookup access: Dutch Cousin Campground provides reliable full-service options. "Very clean, quiet, nice level sites. Beautiful rentals are available. Affordable!" reports Sharon M. The campground maintains well-placed electrical, water and sewer connections positioned for easy access.
