Best Campgrounds near Grafton, OH

Camping areas near Grafton, Ohio include both developed campgrounds and primitive sites within a short drive of Cleveland and Akron. American Wilderness Campground, located directly in Grafton, offers tent sites, RV hookups, cabins, and glamping accommodations from late April through mid-October. Findley State Park Campground in nearby Wellington provides year-round camping with multiple accommodation types including tent sites, RV spots with hookups, and cabins. The region features a mix of state parks, private campgrounds, and county facilities, with most developed sites concentrated along reservoirs and wooded areas.

Most campgrounds in northeastern Ohio operate seasonally, with peak availability from May through October. American Wilderness Campground operates from April 28 to October 15, while several other nearby facilities like Pier-Lon Park and Sunset Lake Campground maintain similar seasonal schedules. Winter camping options are limited primarily to Findley State Park and service plazas along the Ohio Turnpike. Reservations are recommended, particularly for weekend stays during summer months when facilities frequently reach capacity. According to one visitor, "American Wilderness Campground is only 20 minutes from our home. We weren't expecting much but definitely would come back, though may opt for a primitive site as we liked the placement better than if we were surrounded on both sides."

Campers report that many sites in the region feature wooded settings that provide shade and privacy between camping areas. Sunset Lake Campground and Findley State Park receive particularly high ratings for their natural settings and lake access. Several visitors mentioned the family-friendly amenities at American Wilderness, including playgrounds, a lake, and a camp store within walking distance of most sites. Tent campers can find both electric and non-electric sites, with the latter typically offering more seclusion. RV campers have multiple options with full hookups, including several campgrounds that accommodate big rigs with 50-amp service. Based on reviews from The Dyrt, Findley State Park is noted for its "quiet, wooded retreat with all the amenities" including fishing, canoeing, kayaking rentals, and a public beach on Findley Lake.

Canal Fulton Canoe Livery & Campground

    Great location, laking facilities

The campground runs along 100 yards or so of the tuscarawas River. Sandwiches by a railroad, and walking path. They allow you to drive to your spot to pack/unpack, but have to park in the lot. While the campsites are scenic and what you expect... the washroom, especially the shower are pretty lacking. There's a nice covered picnic area with grills available with your own gas. And a small (toddler) kids area. All in all, a great cheap spot for a quick stay.

We stayed mid September and there was live music walking distance every night, a cute ice cream shop a short walk over the bridge, and a nice playground on the other side of the river that was also an easy walk.

I didnt partake in the canoes... but they do a river clean up monthly and really seem to enjoy what they do.

All in all a great cheap spot for a quick stay.

    East Harbor State Park Campground

    Beautiful but Buzzy

I booked one night here for the amenities on a cross-country trip.

The laundry, showers, and water fill stations were convenient/ well-maintained.

    I gave only 4-star however 2 reasons.

    1. for the 5hr lawn mowing caravan that started at 7am in every direction. I’m not even sure what they were mowing since the lawns looked freshly cut. It was obnoxious! And
    2. not enough signage. For example, I had to ask for directions to the laundry rooms and then they are quarter only with no change machine. I had to make a trip back to the office for change.

Overall, a nice spot with all the amenities you could need. Plenty of room and nice multi-use trail to the beach was great!

    East Harbor State Park Campground

    Nice park

Stayed 2 nights. The bathrooms are decent, laundry facility is good and the sites are a good size. There are trails and beaches in the park. I found a disc golf course in the park, and I really enjoyed the layout’s layout. The main issue is the mosquitoes, on every tee pad I was swarmed by at least 50 mosquitoes. It was by far the most mosquitoes I’ve ever seen in one area. I was warned, so I sprayed before going. It helped, but they still buzzed around your head.

Quiet, peaceful, close to all the things

We stopped here for a couple nights to go to a Cleveland Guardians game and go to Cuyahoga National Park. It was within great proximity to both and had all the amenities the kids and I love. Swimming (wish it were open a little later…) laundry 24/7, a game room, store with just what we needed to pick up a few things, a pond that seemed to always have someone fishing at it (that’s a good thing) and a big wide sites to spread out and have a nice campfire in. (Wood available 24/7 and trash pick up at the site in the AM). It’s always nerve wracking when the fire pits are close to the rigs - loved that these sits were wide. And while there are likely people here it feels nice and spread out.
