Stanford House - CLOSED

This was a great place to camp. I set up my tent and camped with my dog Cash. The sites are mowed down nice but with lots of brush in between the sites so you felt secluded from others. The only thing I didn’t realize was how far you parked from the actual site. I had to make several trips and at first it was fine but after about the third trip it seemed far. They had pole to hang your food on at each site and a picnic table. The fire ring was a community fire pit closer to the parking lot. No bathrooms except a porta potty but it was clean. Will definitely go back at some time.

Run by the Conservancy for Cuyahoga National Park are 5 FREE reservable campsites located just ¼ mile off the trail in Peninsula, OH.   Sites are available for hikers/cyclists only.

Each site is situated on grass and has a picnic table. Pit toilets, a group fire ring (firewood supplied), and drinking water are available to campers as well.  Some sites are well-shaded with some privacy and others are wide open and get quite a bit of sun. Definitely check yourself and your pets regularly for ticks as they are abundant.

The Stanford House is a gorgeous historic home which will greet you when you enter the property. Just 3 miles south on the towpath in the village of Peninsula, OH (and right next to the towpath) are Century Cycles (super helpful bike shop!!) and the Winking Lizard Tavern (great place to get dinner, an adult beverage, or just dessert after a long day of cycling)!

This is a very nice campground to stay with nice view for only $25 per night. The parking is not on site.
