Clean, all hookups, next to city park. Reasonable $15 nite

Really nice campground that is missing shade

Lake Wanahoo is a fairly new lake in Saunders county Nebraska. The lake is part of the local NRD and was originally managed by the state parks department. You used to be able to use your state park permit to gain entry, but now you need to either buy a day pass or a yearly pass from the NRD.

There are plenty of places to camp here including gravel pads and grass pads for RV’s. While most people seem to prefer the gravel pads closer to the lake, we actually prefer grass pads because they are 2-3 larger, so you have more room to setup.

The tent camping area is huge and there always seems to be plenty of availability. We were the only tent in the entire area. The tiered tent area allows you to have a great view of the lake from wherever you setup. All RV and tent spots have picnic tables and fire rings. Unfortunately when the lake and campground were built they planted saplings, so during the hot months there is no shade to be found.

The is still plenty to do at the lake from getting the fishing boat out, using their three wide boat ramp or fishing from the shore using bank or using a jetty. There is a gravel trail that goes all the way around the lake, which provides about a three mile loop. The trail also leads down into the town of Wahoo. There are two large play areas for kids. One is in the campground and one is across the lake in the day use area.

No matter where you go you are not far from a restroom. There are nice clean vault toilets available all around the lake. There is also a large bathroom/shower house in the campground. The shower house does have a change machine on the outside of the build to get change for the showers. These are kept very clean and tidy.

When pulling your RV out here the water fill is in an awkward spot in a parking lot of the campground. To get to the dump station you have to leave the campground, get on the highway and drive to the opposite side of the lake to the day use area. These were just installed a couple years ago. They are nice and level, but just add a bit of driving to get to them.

All-in-all this is a nice place and in a few more years of tree growth, it could be even better!

Great place to tent camp!

The only issue I have is when the algae bloom happens every year, then there is no water activity permitted

Decent for Short Trips or Fishing

We primary stop by this site for fishing as the lake is regularly stocked. It's great for kayaking or small boats. There is very little shade available at this campground as it is a man-made area so bring the sunscreen. Fires are allowed and pets must be on leash. RV sites and tent camping site are available.

If you want to party

Definitely more of a party campground. There are a bunch of lakes and a bar in the park. The bathrooms are gross, but they flush and there are showers.

Nice local gem

We went out to Czechland with my sons scout troop and had a nice time camping and fishing. The lake is gorge and the boys were catching a lot of crappie, as well as some large mouth bass and bluegill. They have some really flat tent areas, as well as some basic spots for RV’s. Very quiet area with some great views of the lake. The weather was a bit up in the air for some of the weekend and they do not have any storm shelters, so that is about the only thing does require an upgrade. Overall though it is a great place.

Free overnight camping for Oak creek trail users

The village of Valparaiso allows camping at the city park at the trailhead to the Oak Creek trail. Camping is free and there are electric hookups and water at the park.

The village allows limited stay for free to those using the trail.

the park has charcoal pits and is close to the library where you can access wifi even after the library is closed.

Two convenient stores are close.

Nice Lakeside Campground close to Wildlife Area, golf, and Platte River

Campsites close to the lake and nice paved walking trail. Several options for camping include primitive for $10, power for $15, and full hookups for $20. Pay showers and flush toilets. Wildlife area south of town is right on the river and good for a quiet hike.

Nice playgrounds for the kids.

Schuyler has some of the best Mexican food in the state.

City Park with Hookups- Close to Swimming and Putt- Putt Golf

Park by the fairgrounds and ballpark. Small town with a cool looking putt-putt golf course.

Daily, weekly, and even monthly rates. RV dump and flush toilets. Showers at the pool can be used for free.

Electric Hook-ups. 3 sites with sewer hookups.

Nice Clean Lake North of small town with nice Czech Bakery

Clean quiet lake by Prague a small Nebraska town with a great Bakery and fun festivals.

The camping is quiet and clean as were the toilets. I did not fish but was told the fishing was very good,

Primitive Camping by a Hydro Plant

Nice playground, picnic tables, and charcoal grills. Clean restroom. Free tent camping. good fishing in the canal. Close to town yet far enough away.

Nice parks in town including a memorial to Andrew Jackson Higgins, the inventor of the Higgins landing craft,

Mammoth waterpark.

Better park for a picnic than camping.

Free Campground with Hookup next to Lake and Wetland

The campground has multiple hookups with gravel slabs, picnic tables, and firepits with grates. in addition, many have raised charcoal grills. A paved walking trail goes from the campground and connects to a system of trails. Vault toilet was clean and close.

The camp area was close to a heavily trafficked road but it caused little disturbance. the toilet had no doors making it a concern if you were to enter and discover someone in use and made it uneasy when you were using it yourself for the same reason.

Columbus has a lot going on including a large waterpark.

Free Lakeside Camping with hookup

This camping area has open sites close to the edge of the lake. Electric hookups, toilets, and convenience store close by.

The lake is artificial and has steep metal walls like a reservoir, which was probably what it was. Next to the reservoir is a large wetland teaming with wildlife. There is a long paved trail that skirts the lake.

Columbus Nebraska has a lot going on including a rather mammoth waterpark.

Canoe or hike in and possibly see Bigfoot?

"Nebraska’s state wildlife management areas are open to… many activities, including hiking, bird watching, nature study, and primitive camping. Maps of WMAs may be found in the Public Access Atlas."

"Access to these lands is free, and no entry permit is necessary."

Primitive camping right along the beautiful Platte River just south of Schuyler, NE.

While hiking along the trail I came across a freshly killed deer. On my return I passed by again and saw the skin had been peeled back like a turtleneck shirt you are removing. I tried to think What animal would peel the skin of a deer??? So if you go there, keep a lookout for Bigfoot!

Good for fishing

We primary visit Lake Wanahoo for fishing as the large lake is well stocked. They provide tent and RV camping. However, there is almost no wind break or shade throughout the area. High winds or extreme temperatures can wreak havoc on overnight trips. That also makes privacy tough to come by. The facilities are all relatively new and clean.

Best for a short camping trip or day trip

With tent and RV camping, this is a great place for a quick getaway if you live in Southeast Nebraska. There are picnic facilities and a snack bar, but you're also not too far from Fremont where you can buy supplies or grab something to eat. There is not much privacy as a side effect of having few trees. The lake is stocked so it's a decent spot for fishing.

Algae

Unfortunately Willow Creek State Recreation Area, NE was under a health advisory when we arrived due to algae. We drove through the different areas and it was completely deserted so we continued on the Niobrara State Park. I did not check ahead because I just picked it off the map as we were driving. This seems like a nice , sparsely shaded area with water sports when it’s safe to be in the water……

Free Camping close to Hiking, Biking, Equestrian Trail

This free camping area is low on amenities, but os well kept and close to the Oak Creek Trail which extends from Valparaiso to Brainard Nebraska.

The Lake is lovely with such good trails it is often used as a cross-country race site. This NRD lake has 3 gravel slabs close to a vault toilet and water hydrant. It is just up the hill from the boat ramp.

Lovely Large Lake North of Lincoln, Free Camping, Great Fishing

this is a nice secluded NRD lake north of Lincoln. No real amenities and little to do in the surrounding area. This park is kept up better than most of the NRD lakes. It has vault toilets in both access areas. Nice fishing and nice boating, especially canoe or kayak.

If you need wheelchair access and love fishing, this would be a great spot.

NRDs are Natural Resource Districts, smaller than State but multi-county.

Rough, Free, Beautiful

One of several beautiful lakes run by the NRD, a multi-county natural resource entity that only Nebraska has. This lake has little except great views, fishing, and seclusion. I assume that RVs can park in the gravel area but there are no slabs.

Johnny-on-the-Spots were rough and I found no hiking trails, but deer trails abound. This would be a great camping spot if you wanted to get away but needed to stay close to a road.

Friendly Staff, Small Semi Private Lake Beaches

It is great to back in and be right on a sandy beach area. This was a gravel pit site in the 1950-60s so water is deep and lakes are on small side..You may make reservations ahead, which is helpful due to this being the only full service hookups we could find. Representatives were readily available, sites were clean, and you can move without any hassle.

Wanahoo

Great Lake, but young with no mature trees. Not much hiking available. Established fishery which gets pressure. You will have company here.

Something for Everyone

When we got here on Saturday we were lucky enough to get the last spot. I would definitely call ahead to reserve a spot if going for the weekend. It is a college town and a state park so it was busy. Everyone was having a great time boating, fishing, camping, swimming, and etc. There are playgrounds, day use areas, picnic shelters, concessions, restaurant/shop, fishing pier along with many small fishing lakes. There are 2 larger rv campgrounds- Pathfinder and Victory Lake, and then a smaller one on the other side of the railroad tracks. All sites have Electric only. There are lots of tent sites. All around nice park and quiet during the week.

Very clean and quiet right on the missouri river

Has upper amd lower camping area's lower area right next to river . Can stay for months at a time

Great little getaway

First time visitors to this campground and it was great. We stayed here on our visit up to Ashfall Fossil Beds(which is a must see for anyone with kids, and is only a 30 minute drive from campsite) Most RV campsites are within a minute or two walk to lake. Awesome bike trails take you all around the lake and even across a bridge and dam for great views from multiple angles. Lots of wooded area and picnic locations. Has a couple of playgrounds for the kids, the one our kids loved required a little bike trek from the campground to the north side of the lake. One minor note to add would be to use the restrooms in the shower facility. Other restrooms that were not in the shower facility didn't seem well maintained. Other than that we would definitely come back and stay at this campground.

Quiet Rving next to a great little lake.

Clean restrooms and showers. Some sites have lake access. Well wooded.

Golf Course

There is no camping here it is a golf course. The fairgrounds campsite is nearby and so is a municipal park campground.

Nice campsite

Fishing swimming bozting

Fun

Good fishing and swimming

Nice quiet site

Water and sewer ice park with playground for the kids
