Accessed by FS Road 297, this wide, ATV friendly trail provides access to Fish Lake. The dispersed campsites are only reached via the trail on stock, on foot or ATV transport.

Fish Lake Trailhead

Close to the Ninemile Ranger Station and Grand Menard Picnic Area, this campground has several sites and offers mountain biking opportunities.

Each campsite has a fire ring and picnic table.

This campground in a lodgepole and ponderosa pine forest is located near the Ninemile Ranger Station and Grand Menard Picnic Area adding to the fun things to do when camping here. And if that isn't enough, there are mountain biking trails too!

Kreis Pond Campground

Enjoy a peaceful getaway on part of our 20 acres at the edge of the Flathead river.

Walk down to the glacier fed surreal blue water and take a swim, go kayaking or just take in the majestic mountains and prolific wildlife -you'll see anything from local bald eagles, big horn sheep, white tail deer, to geese, swans, ducks, beavers and otters. Skip beautiful rainbow colored smooth river rocks or just dip your toes in! Take advantage of being in big sky country, star gazing at night with no city's light pollution in sight. Enjoy a campfire and the cool night breeze. Admire the local farm life of milk cows and horses as our nearest neighbors surround us in 40 acres of pastures. Relax in our large yard, encompassed with old fruit trees, play a game of horse shoes, volleyball or just soak up some sun! Go fishing, bird watching or drive 30 minutes to tour the National Bison Range. Or just take a drive about anywhere and admire rugged western Montana, with it's untamed mountains and endless trees. Two miles down the road is Quinn's hot springs, with day passes available for their legendary natural healing waters and fantastic Hardwood House restaurant. Historic wild horse Plains is 10 minutes away with a down home, old style feel. Enjoy walking the streets and exploring their charming shops! Complete with grocery store, coffee shops and Butchers Nook. Try other restaurants in town and be sure to stop at Ripple's, the most incredible ice cream shop, that is only limited by your imagination. Whether you're here for just the night and want to enjoy drinking a cup of coffee while watching the sun rise over the river, or can stay for a week and live out our peace of Paradise, we're confident you'll love your stay here!!

Big Pine Campground

Conveniently located just off Interstate 90, this forested campground with a nature trail is a nice break from traveling on the highway. It's a great place to stretch your legs, warm by a campfire, or enjoy the aromas of the pine forest. Roads and spurs are paved.

Campsites have picnic tables and fire rings. Recycling bins. Within walking distance of the Clark Fork River. Self-guided nature trail. Waste disposal site ($2 fee for dumping if not staying overnight). Gas and groceries within 11 miles. Host on site.
This campground has pull-through sites for larger vehicles, a waste disposal site ($2 fee for dumping if not staying overnight), and paved roads and spurs. There is a 14-foot tunnel connecting the campground (interstate underpass); most RVs and fifth-wheels have no problem pulling through.

## Overview

West Fork Butte Lookout is an ideal place for guests to experience the mountains south of Missoula from a unique vantage point. The facility provides near-360-degree views of the surrounding area. It is equipped with basic supplies and provides guests a base camp location from which to explore the area.   
  
Access by vehicle is available for a relatively short time during the summer months and is variable during the spring and fall. If the gate at the bottom of Forest Road 37 is closed, guests may have to hike, ski or snowmobile roughly 7.5 miles to the facility. Please call the Missoula Ranger District to check gate status. Guests are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety, and must bring several of their own amenities.

## Recreation

Hiking trails are available in the area. Visitors often bring cross-country skis or snowshoes for wintertime fun. Snowmobiles are often used to reach the lookout in the winter, and there is a system of groomed trails to explore nearby.   
  
Fishing is available in Lolo Creek.

## Facilities

The lookout can sleep up to four people and is equipped with bunk beds and mattress pads. The lookout also has a table and chairs, a propane cook stove and lantern, as well as a wood stove for heat. Cleaning supplies, kitchen utensils, cookware and other amenities may be available, but are not always guaranteed; call for availability, (406) 329-3814. A vault toilet is provided.   
  
Guests should bring their own water for drinking, cooking and cleaning purposes. Bedding and towels, propane fuel canisters, flashlights, matches, lighters, garbage bags, toilet paper and cleaning supplies are not supplied at the facility. Guests are responsible for cleaning the lookout prior to departure.

## Natural Features

The 14-by-14' lookout is situated on a rocky knob with spectacular views of the surrounding area, including Lolo Peak, the Bitterroot Mountains and the Lolo Creek drainage. The lookout is close to the Montana-Idaho border and Lolo Pass.   
  
The surrounding forest is comprised primarily of lodgepole pine and larch. The area is home to elk, moose, deer and black bears.

Few people know this, but Montana is a superb access point to the world’s very first national park. If a visit to Yellowstone is on your itinerary, make sure to enter the park via the scenic Beartooth Highway.


Another great camping destination in Montana is gorgeous Flathead Lake, located within the Kootenai Tribes Flathead Reservation and the contiguous USA’s largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi. Numerous recreation areas surround Flathead Lake, offering excellent picnicking, fishing and camping. More adventure-minded travelers might want to attempt an ascent of Granite Peak, the highest mountain in the state.
