    Pinewood Lodge Campground

    Beautiful

Nice and quiet, here for a 3 night stay. 4 star because there are signs posted No dogs allowed on the road to the beach or other areas in the campground, limits walking. There is a dog park, though.

    Wompatuck State Park Campground

Great spot with Plenty of History

We chose this spot for a family weekend. Sites are spacious. Water from nearby facet. Because it was local and had history behind it. Rhe campground is within a state park and is built on a old military base. You can still see some bunkers with their vents all around the campground. Blue Mountain spring water can be found right near campground for some refreshing water. We brought our chow chows and their was a great harbor side dog park a short drive away along with some swimming. I would visit again.

    Atlantic Oaks Campground

    Nice campground

Fairly large, mostly RV and travel trailer park, we felt right at home in our popup. Check in and out were simple. Sites are large although a little close together. Mostly sandy gravel sites with lots of shade available. There are a few really nice tent sites next to the playground, close to the store, showers, and restrooms.

Facilities were uncrowded and very clean. Camp store was nice with lots of supplies available. Wonderful playground for the kids, big and small. Great little dog park.

The location of this campsite is perfect! Short drive to many of the best beaches on the Cape. Lots to do in the immediate area for families, plenary of restaurant options.

    We will definitely return!

    Pinewood Lodge Campground

    Good Spot

Site was level, staff was awesome. They do have a dog park and plenty of things to do. Didn't like that you have to pay for hot water though.

    Boston/Cape Cod KOA

    Not our favorite KOA

The sites are pretty close and some are not level. It seems that many sites have more than one vehicle at them, making it more congested. The Highlands area is much quieter. Decent dog park & common play areas (horseshoes, ladder ball, cornhole, basketball). Lots for kids to do. We went to Plimoth Plantation about 20 min away but not much else in the area. Management & employees are friendly & helpful.

    Bay View Campground

    Huge campground chockful of amenities

    General: Over 450 sites (tent 20 amp w/e; 30 amp w/e; 30 amp w/e/s; 50 amp w/e/s; 50 amp w/e; 30, 50 or premium seasonal)

Site Quality: Generally good. Sites are gravel. We had originally reserved Site 98 but there was a large rock and tree roots making it challenging to position our van. We were able to move to Site 95 which was much better. Each site has a picnic table and rock firepit. Trees provide some amount of privacy between many sites.

Bath/Shower house: Spotlessly clean. The cleaning schedule indicates it is cleaned three times daily.

    Activities/Amenities:

*Some are seasonal and were closed when we were there in October. These include three pools, a food truck, coffee, and ice cream.

    * Others include a pristine laundry room (but you have to purchase a laundry card, so one load is a minimum of $10), shuffleboard, playground, tennis/pickleball, volleyball, basketball, horseshoe pit, soccer and baseball fields, firewood and propane fill, free cable and WiFi, dog park. I’ve probably forgotten a few but you get the idea…

We chose this campground because of its proximity to the Woods Hole ferry terminal. It is not our typical preferred campground but for one night in the off-season, it was very pleasant. It is billed as a family-friendly campground, and I imagine it would be very different during high season. We gladly forgo seasonal amenities for a quieter stay. The staff was very present and welcoming. Note that it is located on a busy highway and if you are approaching from the south, the turn into the campground is hair-raising! There is some road noise at some sites but not for most of them.

    Marthas Vineyard Family Campground

    Peaceful Stay on Martha’s Vineyard

Great stay at the only campground on Martha’s Vineyard! Immaculate tent sites as well as bath houses, very clean shower and toilet facilities. Camp store is well stocked, including fire wood, and staying here you are close to all of the quaint MV towns…..whether by car, bike rental, or the island bus line that goes by the camp entrance. The ferry to Nantucket is only a few minutes away too for a day excursion! Very personable staff…..be sure to make at least a few minutes each day to pet the campground dogs!!

    Nickerson State Park Campground

    So Much to Do!

Woodsy pet-friendly family camping with easy access to Cape Cod attractions. Our family of four plus one pet enjoyed biking, hiking, and pond swimming during our three night tent stay. Sites are grassy and tree-lined offering some privacy. Bathrooms were clean and showers were warm and spacious. We kept ourselves occupied within the park for most of our stay, but enjoyed venturing out to spend time enjoying the National Seashore, and outstanding sea food joints. Since camping means being close to nature be sure to bring bug spray and be prepared to deal with a bit of sand. In all, this state park made for a fun family outdoor adventure!

Guide to Yarmouth Port

Camping near Yarmouth Port ranges from beachside primitive sites to forested RV resorts. Cape Cod's camping season typically runs April through October, with average summer temperatures between 70-80°F and cooler nights around 60°F. Most campgrounds in the area close during winter months when temperatures drop and coastal winds intensify.

What to do

Biking on connected trail systems: Nickerson State Park Campground offers excellent access to Cape Cod's extensive bike path network. "This is a great park for mountain biking, there are trails everywhere. Check NEMBA website for a trail map," notes Duane B. The park connects to the 22-mile Cape Cod Rail Trail, making it possible to explore multiple towns by bicycle.

Fishing along the Cape Cod Canal: Bourne Scenic Park sits right on the Canal with direct access to prime fishing spots. "If you like fishing this is your place," shares Rick R. The park provides stair access to the canal bike path where anglers can be seen reeling in substantial catches.

Beach exploration and hiking: Sandy Neck Beach Park Primitive Campsites offers a unique backcountry beach camping experience. "The park has 5 dispersed sites located 3-4 miles from the trailhead with picnic tables and an outhouse," explains Anna C. The challenging hike rewards campers with secluded beach access and permitted campfires directly on the shoreline.

What campers like

Secluded wooded sites: Sweetwater Forest receives consistent praise for its private campsites. "We were on site B17 and it was perfect. Complete 360 privacy, well wooded, and just what was needed. Listen to the sounds of frogs at night was kinda awesome," shares Christina M. The campground's layout provides natural separation between sites, especially in the C loop area.

Freshwater swimming options: Nickerson State Park's kettle ponds offer an alternative to ocean beaches. "The clean, freshwater swimming at the kettle ponds (which are usually uncrowded and within less than a minute's walk from our campsite) is incredible," writes Phil Y. These natural ponds provide calm waters without the crowds often found at Cape beaches.

Extended season availability: Scusset Beach State Reservation remains open later than many Cape Cod campgrounds. "Scusset Beach offers an extended camping season, although the extended season is restricted to self-contained units as the restrooms are turned off," notes Jean C. The campground typically operates from May through December, allowing camping opportunities even after most other facilities have closed.

What you should know

Beach access challenges: Sandy Neck Beach requires significant effort to reach campsites. "The hike in to the sites can be particularly difficult because it requires trekking through sand without any sun coverage and with all of your gear," cautions Anna C. However, "the park staff will send someone to the sites to deliver 5 gallons of water for free as well as firewood for a small fee."

Reservation requirements: Popular campgrounds fill quickly, particularly during peak summer months. "This spot fills up quick so reservations well ahead of time are needed," advises Virginia W. about Nickerson State Park. Most campgrounds open their reservation systems 6-12 months in advance.

Noise considerations: Some campgrounds experience traffic noise despite their natural settings. Shawme Crowell State Forest Campground sits near a major highway. "It is also very close to Rt 6 so the traffic noise is almost constant especially Friday nights. Not recommended for light sleepers but very convenient," warns Tim C. Consider site location when booking if quiet is a priority.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Shady Knoll Campground provides play areas within a compact campground layout. "There are many things to do close by- a lot of bay side beaches, coffee shops and a wonderful bike trail. Nickerson is right down the street as well which opens up a lot of recreation options," explains Molly G. The short nature trail within the grounds offers additional activity options.

Dog friendly campgrounds near Yarmouth Port: Scusset Beach welcomes pets with specific guidelines. "They are dog friendly however, not allowed on beach during peak summer season," clarifies Orange L. Many pet-friendly campgrounds in the area maintain similar restrictions on beaches during summer months.

Activity options for varied interests: Peters Pond RV Resort combines water activities with land-based recreation. "We stayed at the campground and loved it...Pool was good, pond was great. We really enjoyed the beach raft, able to kayak and did some fishing. Kids loved the little pool slide," shares John D. Multiple water features provide alternatives when ocean beaches are crowded.

Tips from RVers

Site selection considerations: Sweetwater Forest offers varied site options for different RV needs. "We had a nice pull through with a view of the pond. Staff were very friendly and helpful," notes Alyssa R. The campground includes separate sections for RVs and tents, with the RV areas providing better utility access.

Hookup availability: Bourne Scenic Park provides partial hookups with some limitations. "No sites have sewer; however, grey water dump stations are randomly placed throughout the campground and can be accessed with a garden hose," explains Nancy W. RVers should plan accordingly for black water management during longer stays.

Leveling challenges: Many Cape Cod campgrounds require leveling blocks due to terrain. "Leveling was not an issue for us in our site (C-25) but the majority of sites would be a problem for a motorhome to get level without the aid of blocks. In fact, some sites were ridiculously unlevel and took a scary amount of blocks," warns Nancy W. about Bourne Scenic Park. RVers should bring sufficient leveling equipment.
