Best RV Parks & Resorts near Black Hawk, CO

Several RV parks surround the Black Hawk area, offering varied options for motorhome travelers. Clear Creek RV Park in Golden provides full hookup sites with electric, sewer, and water connections, operating seasonally from May through September. Idaho Springs RV Resort & Campground features 39 sites accommodating large rigs with both 30-amp and 50-amp electrical service. "Sites were level and had lots of space. Each had a fire pit and picnic table," noted one camper about their experience at a nearby park. Dakota Ridge RV Park in Golden welcomes big rigs with 50-amp hookups, water, and sewer connections, while Cottonwood RV Campground in Idaho Springs remains open year-round with basic electric and water hookups but no shower facilities.

Mountain access roads to these parks may require careful navigation due to elevation changes and occasional tight turns. Cell service varies considerably throughout the region, with better connectivity at lower-elevation parks closer to Interstate 70. Most parks maintain gravel or concrete pull-through pads, though spacing between sites differs significantly. Dump stations are available at most facilities, with several parks charging additional fees for this service. Pet-friendly policies are common across the area's RV parks, though restrictions apply at certain locations. During summer months, particularly July through August, advance reservations are strongly recommended as mountain parks fill quickly with visitors seeking cooler temperatures. Winter camping options remain limited, with many facilities closing or reducing services during snow season.

    Riverview RV Park & Campground

    Quick Stop close to Loveland

Campground is situated along the Big Thompson River. Big cottonwood trees. Easy accessibility for big rigs. Some items … water valves leak in lakes around entire park and many are leaking. No dog runs for pups, lots of places to walk though. There are long term “campers” at this park. Bathrooms were clean but dated.

    Denver West-Central City KOA

    Mountain High

Yes Mountain High!! 8100’ high. 7 miles off I-70 at Idaho Springs. 25 miles into outskirts of Denver. Don’t worry they have oxygen! Not kidding!!

Nice campground, friend staff, laundry, fun little gift shop with some food stuffs, beer and liquor. Pizza cooked there but we didn’t try it.

Our space was a big rig space on concrete pad with ample seating, a table, a fire pit, and a propane grill stove… use you own propane! Full hook ups. It was still reaching freezing at night and so we didn’t hook up our water.

    Lone Rock Campground

    Line Rock review

We love this campground due to the river access. The do have potable water but it tastes pretty bad, so brIng drinking/cooking water. Most, if not all sites, have a picnic table and fire pit. During reservable season (Memorial Day to Labor Day I believe), the campground host usually has firewood for sale. No cell service, no electric. We hear that the cafe In Deckers may be getting wifi. The campground is open all year but the water is shut off in the winter. Sites are close to each other.

    Beautiful KOA

Campground is located above Central City with great views. Amenities include full hookup sites both pull through and back-in. Store with everything a camper would need. Clean restrooms and showers. Playground and dog friendly. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.

    Loveland RV Resort

Fair Site Pricing & Nice Amenities But A Few Additional Fees

I wanted to stop into this area after exploring a few campgrounds designed more so for tent campers in the area. I noticed some of these spaces were not ideal for those wanting to bring their RV and have amenities and that really was something that I know many of the people I know really look for when finding their locations for travel. Loveland is a little further away from the entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park but it offers many great things to those wanting to explore the area and still be within comfortable distance of the park itself. The RV Resort is designed for both larger and smaller rigs and offers a variety of comfortable amenities for campers of this style.

There are 4 basic styles of offerings at this location including full hook up, oversized full hook up, premium and premium back up sites. These prices range from$56 to$65 for base single night stay. They do offer both weekly and monthly rates as well for those really wanting to enjoy the area.

Something which I have found very common amongst these style of locations is that while they do offer base charges which do not include tax there are many times additional fees depending on certain amenities. This campground was no different with additional charges for parties of over 4 people, extra vehicles or pets. Additionally they do have a sizable$20 dump fee, I found this to be quite high, especially considering there is a free dump station only a few miles up the way at another facility which allows campers or passers by alike to use their dump station.

Something nice is they do offer a Good Sam discount if you belong to the affiliated program which is a few dollars off the price of nightly stay.

Additionally amenities include a pool and mini golf which were quite nice and a clubhouse with several really cool things inside. They have a playground for the kiddos and a dog park for the furry family.

Overall the park itself seemed to have wide roadways for navigating and though for my personal taste the sites are located pretty close together they were pretty typically placed for an RV style park. Unlike several parks I have encountered in the area and others, this place did not have the long term stay option readily flagrant and while they might offer it you do not see people who look like they have moved in and allowed their area to become homely and run down. Quite the opposite, the grounds were very clean and inviting, everyone was very friendly and nothing looked like a“there goes the neighborhood” moment.

Glacier Basin Campground — Rocky Mountain National Park

    Wonderful Stay

I have a 22’ travel trailer I pull behind an F150. Since this campground is inside Rocky Mountain National Park, the roads are all paved.

The campground sites are situated around one-way driving loops, which are quite narrow. Best to pay attention to which side of the loop your site is on so your trailer door doesn’t open up onto the road. I think they error on the side of caution when it comes to the size of trailer fitting into each spot. At least for mine. They said max 26’ (trailer + tow vehicle), but I’m closer to 32’ and I fit fine. That may not be true of all campsites though. There is parking very close by if your tow vehicle can’t squeeze into the site.

My site didn’t have a whole lot of trees, but they planted a bunch of small ones to try and fix this years from now. Sites were level and had lots of space. Each had a fire pit and picnic table.

There were no hookups and no cell service (Verizon). They did have trash drop offs, water for cleaning pans and dishes, and bathrooms. It was very quiet at night. Generators are allowed but only for a couple times a day during short windows.

Glacier Basin campground is just a few miles from the Bear Lake trailhead. It was very nice to stay inside the park. Vehicle passes to get into National Parks were still required when I stayed and the lines to get in were very long and slow.

    Loveland Station Campground - CLOSED

    New owners, New Name.

Falcon’s Landing RV Park 648 NE Frontage Road Johnstown CO 80534

    Ph: 970-800-1569 Email: falconslandingrv@hotmail.com URL: falconslandingrv.com

Family owned and operated. They have a great long range plans for the improvement of the park with added amenities. Great progress has been made in cleaning up the park and making it more inviting. Most of the older trashy campers have left. There still is a fair amount of long-term campers but their spaces are looking much better and their campers are in better condition for the most part. all the spaces have full hook ups and there is room for big rigs. Our camper is a 42 foot fifth wheel. There is a laundry, clean restrooms and showers and mail service. There are not a lot of amenities for children at this point but those are in their future plans. This campground is actually located on the east edge of Loveland Colorado and on the east side of interstate I 25 and just south of Highway 34. For being next to the interstate, it is a very quiet campground with lots of trees and plants. A great place to stay while visiting the Rocky Mountains. They are not really geared for overnight camping but I’m sure they would accommodate if they had an open space. Their rates are reasonable and they seem to stay full most of the time time so it is best to call ahead and reserve a site. We stayed here in November and December 2020 And again now since April 1 and will be leaving mid June.

    Flatiron Reservoir Campground

    Disappointed

We stayed at site F03 from June 8–14 (we left a day early) and were very disappointed in the condition of this campground.

We live full-time in our motorhome and have traveled extensively across the country. Sadly, this was one of the worst campsites we’ve stayed at. The grass was extremely overgrown, the bushes and trees were encroaching on the site, and the water spigot in our area was non-functional. The site itself was so steep that we had to pull in forward just to attempt leveling our Class A RV—completely unsuitable for big rigs.

Adding to that, this is not a full hookup site. You're paying over $50 per night (after the additional $10 vehicle charge) for electricity only, with the nearest dump station 7 miles away. That price is far too high for what’s offered, especially given the lack of maintenance.

To their credit, the park office was understanding and did refund two nights of our stay, which we appreciated. However, we left a day early and will not be returning.

Elk Meadows Lodge & RV Resort

    Beautiful View / Accessible Location

Good Sam discount CO RV Parks are all more on the expensive side, but Elk Meadow is on the lower end of those around them. Great access to the RMNP(5 mins max!), as well as to downtown. Beautiful views of Longs Peak! Nearest grocery is close(5 miles away). Elk occasionally pass thru the front area which was really cool! There is also a little area next to the RV park where I think they park stored vehicles and it's a great place to walk. It's dirt, but about the size of a track.

GUEST SERVICES= great customer service! Friendly staff anytime I went into the office; they shuffled around to accommodate out extended stay on the spot so we wouldn't have to relocate and could stay at our site the whole time we were in town. We appreciated that!

WIFI/ CELL SERVICE= provided, but not reliable. We used our AT&T hotspot the entire time bc we work remote. Cell service was 4 bars and worked fine in the entire campground.

LAUNDRY: Not the cleanest laundry room we've been too, but it worked. There was a soap and water station in the laundry I used to wipe down the inside of the washer(by the chlorox holder) before using. The trashcan always seemed to be overflowing with lent and trash, but again, clean enough.

SITE: Wide roads and turns; easy to navigate throughout the campground; quiet; picnic table; spacious, no shade, needed levels on one side of our RV; dirt roads throughout so, unless it rained, it was very dusty and so we didn't open our windows as much as we wanted with the fresh mountain air. When it rained and calmed down the dust, then it was perfect to open the windows.

Guide to Black Hawk

The RV camping options around Black Hawk, Colorado sit at elevations between 7,500-9,500 feet, presenting unique challenges for larger vehicles navigating mountain roads. Seasonal accessibility varies dramatically, with many facilities reducing operations or closing entirely during winter months when snow accumulation can exceed 70 inches annually. Temperature swings of 30-40 degrees between day and night are common even in summer.

What to do

Fishing access points: Clear Creek flows through the region with multiple access points for anglers seeking rainbow and brown trout. Clear Creek RV Park provides direct river access. "Along a gorgeous walking path to the mountains, within immediate walking distance to multiple breweries and restaurants, and extremely accessible to the mountains," notes camper Janine R.

Mountain biking trails: Several well-maintained trails within 20 minutes of most campgrounds connect to larger regional networks. "The bike bath and creek are nice," according to Rebeca H., who stayed at Clear Creek RV Park and appreciated its proximity to regional outdoor recreation.

Lake recreation: Multiple reservoirs within 30-45 minutes of Black Hawk offer calm-water alternatives to creek fishing. "Really close to Lake Granby and Willow Creek for some great fishing and also a pond on site for fishing as well," reports Cody N. at Sun Outdoors Rocky Mountain.

Hot springs day trips: Several natural hot springs lie within 1-2 hours driving distance of Black Hawk area campgrounds. Some require advance reservations and cost $15-25 per person for day use access.

What campers like

Easy town access: The convenience of camping near small mountain towns provides shopping and dining options without long drives. "This campground allows easy access to Denver, Golden, and the foothills," states Colorado C. about Dakota Ridge RV Park.

Wildlife viewing: Many campers report regular wildlife sightings directly from their campsites. "We had Elk & deer in the campground which is nice to see," mentions B M. who stayed at Spruce Lake RV Park.

Clean facilities: Despite varying amenities between parks, cleanliness is consistently mentioned in positive reviews. "Super clean bathhouses cleaned daily and coin-op laundry," reports Janine R. about Clear Creek RV Park facilities.

River proximity: Waterside sites are highly valued for ambient sound and fishing access. "Our site was long enough to stay hooked up. The campsite pads are level, wide enough for our slide without being on top of the neighbors, paved like the roads, with wide-enough gravel-and-cement areas between and beautiful mature shade trees everywhere," notes GP about their riverside site at Clear Creek.

What you should know

Variable cell service: Coverage is unpredictable throughout the region, affecting remote work capabilities. "Verizon service consistently had 3-4 bars of 5G so we were able to use our jet pack for any internet needs," reports Charlie & Danielle B. at Dakota Ridge RV Park.

Winter closures: Most campgrounds reduce operations from October through April. "This campground is right in Estes Park! Spacious sites, stocked pond, pet friendly, and great staff!" mentions Christina N. about Spruce Lake RV Park, though the facility typically closes by early October.

Traffic considerations: Peak summer congestion affects travel times between campgrounds and attractions. "The park is right next to a major interchange where CR-6, I-70, 470, and US-40 all intersect. Expect some road noise as well as the sound of motorcycles from the bar across the street," warns Jason F. about Dakota Ridge RV Park.

Limited fire options: Fire restrictions vary between facilities and by season. "They only allow propane fires, not even charcoal grills so for someone who loves a good campfire and to grill on my charcoal grill that was a major negative mark," notes Charlie & Danielle B. about Dakota Ridge RV Park.

Tips for camping with families

Pools and recreation: Some facilities maintain swimming pools for warmer months. "We stayed here for one night back in July 2012. We didn't have reservations and needed a place in a pinch. They had plenty of spots. Dakota Ridge RV had a pool and laundry facility so we were set," shares Christy C.

Playground access: On-site playgrounds provide children's activities between outdoor adventures. "Kids enjoyed activities - popsicle eating contest, t-shirt tie dye, and donut decorating. They also loved the clean and well-lit basketball courts," reports canyongirl100 about Idaho Springs RV Resort & Campground.

Fishing ponds: Stocked fishing ponds offer convenient opportunities for children to learn fishing basics. "Tubing & swimming in the creek is wonderful especially in summertime. Our favorite is the fishing, so much fun fishing in all the different spots along the creek. Always a fun time for our family here!" shares Dea D. about Clear Creek RV Park.

Multi-generational activities: Some parks provide diverse recreation options within walking distance. "Pool, hot tubs, bar/restaurant, general store, arcade, mini bowling alleys, lake for paddle boarding, access to fishing on the Colorado River," lists canyongirl100 about Sun Outdoors Rocky Mountain.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling requirements: Many mountain sites require significant leveling equipment. "The A3 site chosen is gravel with a hole or two and significantly tilted low to the front left... requiring a 4 high stack," warns David M. about Dakota Ridge RV Park.

Electrical connections: Varying hookup configurations may require adaptors. "Sites 8 & 9 are extremely unlevel, but the other sites are pretty fine," advises Janine R. about Clear Creek RV Park.

Water pressure considerations: High mountain water systems often produce strong pressure requiring regulators. "Be sure to have a water pressure regulator or you'll come back to a flooded RV," cautions Love4travel T. about Applewood RV Resort by Rjourney.

Dump station protocols: Some facilities charge additional fees for dump station use or have unusual setups. "The sewer is 6 inches above grade and slinky support wasn't tall enough. You might be lifting your hose to assist emptying," notes Love4travel T. about Applewood RV Resort.
