McKinney Falls State Park Campground and Austin Lone Star RV Community both welcome pets with designated areas for exercise. The dog park at Lone Star RV Community features artificial turf large enough for frisbee throwing, while Oak Forest RV Park maintains two separate dog parks alongside fire pit common areas and hammock zones. Most campgrounds near Buda enforce standard leash policies when pets are outside designated off-leash areas. Accommodations range from basic tent sites to full-hookup RV spots and pet-friendly cabins. Longhorn RV Resort provides pet-friendly cabin options with picnic tables and fire rings. The family-oriented parks typically maintain clean, well-maintained pet waste stations throughout the grounds to ensure sanitary conditions for all guests.

Pedernales Falls State Park offers extensive hiking trails where leashed dogs can join their owners exploring the natural landscape. Several RV parks feature fenced dog parks with separate areas for small and large breeds, providing safe exercise spaces regardless of dog size. The Leander-NW Austin KOA maintains what many consider the largest dog park in the area, with ample space for active pets to run freely. During summer months, owners should be mindful of hot ground surfaces that can burn paw pads, especially on gravel campsites during peak afternoon heat. Most campgrounds provide shaded areas where pets can rest comfortably. Nearby veterinary services are available in Austin and surrounding communities for emergency situations, with the closest options approximately 15-20 minutes from most Buda area campgrounds.

      Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: Canyon Lake

Family fun, better for littles than teens

We came for the month of January to camp next to friends. It’s a family RV park and has nice amenities. We are just outgrowing the atmosphere. It’s nothing against the park, we just have a teenager. (14) I recommend it for any families with younger kids! If you have a teen who rolls their eyes as a bounce pillow and isn’t interested in miniature golf, probably keep looking.

Our site is wooded and has a nice fire pit—but unfortunately right now there is a burn ban in Comal County.

Pet friendly! Has a small dog park.

      Berry Springs Park & Preserve

      Hidden gem near Austin

Nice park and campground very near Georgetown, Texas. Berry Springs is a local county park and preserve. The Park is located just north of Georgetown Texas about 1 mile off Interstate 35 the main highway between Dallas and Austin. It’s a Great location with loads of open space. They have basic sites with covered picnic tables, fire rings, and hooks for hanging items. The former ranch has a lot of history dating back to the Texas Pioneer days. The park is located next to clear spring fed river for swimming and fishing. This may be a great option for those looking for a location close to Austin or a local family weekend. The camp was nearly empty in October this year which is the peak season for camping in Texas. The sites are best suited for tent camper, vans, and smaller trailers.

Hill Country RV Resort & Cottage Rentals

Nice Park with little room between sites

The park it’s self is nice and clean.  Staff for the most part is friendly and nice.  The pool is a hopping place over summer break and on the weekends when it’s warm.  RV sites are tight in the daily/weekly sites and parking your 40+ foot rig and tow vehicle in the spot are probably not happening.  They do have over flow parking and depending on your site it could be a good walk.

They are pet friendly and have several dog parks and potty areas through out the park.  The laundry room is like no other I’ve ever been too.  All machines operate via debit/credit cards, no more quarters!!

Over all we enjoyed our stay and would recommend this park for monthly stays or in one of their top tier sites for daily/weekly stays.

      McKinney Falls State Park Campground

      Pretty park - popular too!

This state park is a little outside of Austin near the airport. The park stays busy and it’s easy to see why– it’s really nice with waterfalls you can check out in the park and it isn’t far from the airport. We had a great stay here and will definitely check it out again if in the area. Although– watch the branches if you are in a bigger rig– we watched a guy hit one and mess up his roof. Also, if you will be camping in Texas State Parks a bit be sure to get the annual Texas State Parks pass– it will end up saving you a lot of money! Also, we went to a nearby market to buy what we thought was salsa(see pictures)– it definitely wasn’t and it was sooo spicy!!

      Stone Creek RV Park

      Just off i35

Super easy to get to off i35 between New Braunfels and San Antonio. The park is nice but could use some updating. The daily sites are up front and those are kept up, but if you walk around the park the ones near the back that are mostly monthly rentals could use some TLC. The playground was okay but the dog parks were nicer. It was cold so we skipped the pools but they have two.

We stayed three weeks here after being caught in the Texas Arctic vortex. They were very accommodating considering we extended our stay twice. The location is super convenient and about 30-45 minutes from the River walk.

      Miller Creek RV Park

      Hidden Gem

I first chose this RV park because it was further away from Johnson City (I wanted a quiet RV park that wasn’t too close to the busy traffic). I was not disappointed. My girlfriend and myself have stayed here twice and we will be going back in November. The office staff is friendly and very helpful. The sites are gravel/dirt but the are all level. There is a nice size dog park area for an RV park of this size. Me of the things I love is taking my dogs to the park first thing in the morning and watching the cows in the pasture next to the park through the fence.

      Canopy Luxury RV Resort

Luxury RV Park worth the price.

Honestly, the price wasn't too bad. Gated community with concierge service to your site. Most sites had some degree of shade and a decent amount of privacy. The pool and shower facilities are very nice and clean. The 2 dog parks (split into 2 sections each for small and large...so 4 dog parks) really helped keep our dogs entertained. Great rotation of food trucks and activities for kids. 100% recommended for a RV Resort stay.

    Guide to Buda

Buda camping options lie within the Texas Hill Country region at approximately 700 feet elevation, characterized by rolling terrain and limestone features. The area experiences hot summers with temperatures frequently exceeding 95°F and mild winters, making camping comfortable nearly year-round. The nearby San Marcos River and Blanco River provide cooling water recreation opportunities during summer months.

    What to do

Hiking at volcanic formations: Pedernales Falls State Park offers unique hiking experiences across volcanic rock formations. As Emily M. notes, "There's an extinct volcano nearby called Pilot Knob. That accounts for the flat rock near the main falls... The ruins of the homestead are definitely worth checking out if the creek is passable."

Fishing in stocked waters: Lockhart State Park Campground provides fishing opportunities in its creek system. According to Red S., "I came today to fish for trout. The park has 4G network with T-Mobile cell service. It worked pretty well."

Golf while camping: Lockhart State Park features a rare campground amenity. As Brittany S. explains, "A state park with a 9 hole golf course?!? What a unique find! There was also a pool and a couple nature trails."

River activities: The San Marcos River offers tubing opportunities at Pecan RV Park. Carol S. mentions, "Tubes to rent. Awesome huge trees in a lot of the park. Right on the river, great floating."

    What campers like

Private campsites: McKinney Falls State Park Campground receives praise for site privacy. Kingrex49 M. states, "We spent a couple of nights at this park. We loved the water falls and the sites are far apart with trees and shrubs surrounding them."

Natural swimming spots: McKinney Falls offers unique swimming opportunities, though with safety considerations. Emily M. advises, "Please be careful swimming. If you can't swim, please refrain or wear a life jacket. There have been several drownings here."

Seasonal wildlife viewing: Lockhart State Park provides special evening viewing opportunities. Sara S. describes, "A fun little part of the trip was the HUGE amount of fireflies we saw- very cool!"

Convenient location: Austin Lone Star RV Community offers proximity to urban amenities. According to Tijana & Andrew C., "This is the third campground we've stayed at, and it's conveniently located just 15 minutes from the city, with grocery stores and other essential shops nearby."

    What you should know

Summer heat risks: Hot ground surfaces can be hazardous during peak summer months, especially on gravel pads. Swimming areas provide relief but require caution.

Cell reception varies: Reception differs by campground and carrier. Red S. reported at Lockhart State Park: "The park has 4G network with T-Mobile cell service. It worked pretty well. I could surf online send and receive text messages and was able to talk to my wife."

Seasonal flooding concerns: Pedernales Falls State Park Campground can experience dangerous flash flooding. Faith S. warns, "Made me aware of how serious flash flooding is here. Respect weather warnings!"

Site leveling needed: Some parks require additional preparation. Karl W. notes about Lockhart State Park, "The sites are also not super level and our site #2 sloped back."

    Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly swimming spots: Steph C. recommends McKinney Falls State Park: "The water was warm, and it was perfect for new swimmers with floaties and advanced swimmers. There's a place where you can jump off the rocks into the water."

Multi-activity options: Pecan RV Park combines river access with other amenities. One visitor notes, "Right on the river, great floating."

Beginner-friendly trails: Lockhart State Park offers accessible hiking for less experienced hikers. Erica H. mentions, "Its has different hiking trails to explore and tons of nice picnic areas."

Group facilities: Several campgrounds accommodate family reunions or group gatherings. Deborah C. describes Lone Star RV Resort as "well organized, had after hours packet ready that was a pleasure to have. Clear and with tag for the truck."
