    Cedar Breaks Park

    Beautiful big sites

The sites are large which means you aren't right on top of your neighbors. Lots of shade. Each site has its own shelter with picnic table, grill and fire pit. Electric and water but no sewer. The sites along the outside of the loop have lake views and are level. The sites along the inside are scary unlevel! Some of the big rigs were backed in and jacked up 4 feet or so in front. Saw a lady break her ankle stepping out of her camper. Be prepared to level your camper! I suggest odd numbers 19-35 and even numbers 36-42 as the most level sites with the best lake views.

The park has hiking trails, boating and swimming access, but none of these are accessed right at the camp area.

Restrooms are very basic with no hot water. They were clean but a little creepy for showers. I used the toilets there during the day and my camper shower and toilet at night.

    Jellystone Park™ Austin North

    Dream campground

Amazing resort. Great monthly rate. They go above and beyond with their amenities providing an indoor play room, full kitchen, business center, etc. Very family friendly resort with plenty of activities planned. Lots of full time families staying here long term which makes for a fun time. The one downside was that we didn’t get the sites that we had put a deposit down for. There seems to be a lot of turnover in the office so when we checked in it wasn’t the same lady who had helped us pick out our sites and reserve them. We travel with my parents and always try to stay next to them but they were unwilling to accommodate that even though they originally told us they would. All in all I do recommend this park for the amazing ambiance and amenities.

Hill Country RV Resort & Cottage Rentals

Nice Park with little room between sites

The park it’s self is nice and clean.  Staff for the most part is friendly and nice.  The pool is a hopping place over summer break and on the weekends when it’s warm.  RV sites are tight in the daily/weekly sites and parking your 40+ foot rig and tow vehicle in the spot are probably not happening.  They do have over flow parking and depending on your site it could be a good walk.

They are pet friendly and have several dog parks and potty areas through out the park.  The laundry room is like no other I’ve ever been too.  All machines operate via debit/credit cards, no more quarters!!

Over all we enjoyed our stay and would recommend this park for monthly stays or in one of their top tier sites for daily/weekly stays.

    Sunset RV Park

    Peace in Hill Country

I typically rate campgrounds as they fit into 1 of 5 categories. This campground will be rated as a Basecamp — grounds that offer a comfortable home base that you’re happy to return to after a day of exploring the surrounding area. Ratings for this category are based on: Value to cost: 5 Overall grounds: 4 Utility of sites (hookups, layout, accessibility): 4 Local Attraction Proximity: 4 Reservation Process/Ease of Getting a Site: 5 Amenities: 4 Customer Service: 5 Cleanliness: 4

A really lovely spot in Dripping Springs, Sunset RV Park is a small park in Hill Country outside Austin (this is not the one near Lake Travis). It’s clear that this is a destination spot for snowbirds to the area as most everyone was set-up for a long-term stay and we saw very few folks come and go during our one-week stay. The park is very quiet with close attention paid to COVID precautions (this is the first park we encountered that was 100% contact free check in).

The park is built somewhat into a hill, so some of the turns are a little tricky and our spot was a bit uneven. The space itself was a very wide asphalt driveway with a picnic table and metal fire ring below a stone wall, perhaps a bit close to our neighbors as I wasn’t totally certain it was definitely ours to use.

The amenities are pretty basic- clean laundry and bathrooms and a good enough wifi signal to allow us to use the internet easily. There’s also propane available on site. I enjoyed the layout of the grounds and each site was afforded some privacy thanks to the set-up and tiered spaces. The weekly rate of $300 was very reasonable.

Excellent access to Hamilton Pool (make reservations!), Reimers Ranch and Westcave Discovery Center. Also about 30 minutes to most of Austin including SoCo, McKinney Falls SP and 6th Street.

Reservations were made by phone with a very friendly woman and, as I mentioned, check in was contactless, so we really didn’t encounter anyone else aside from a friendly wave from folks maintaining the grounds in golf carts. The place is a nice find outside Austin and very close by to family for us, so we’re happy to have found it and will return!

    Summit Vacation Resort

    Texas Camping at its finest

We loved the quiet and peace of this RV Resort nestled in Texas Hill Country.

The Park: they have a large pool area with cafe and snacks. The property is large and spaces are spread out through out the park. The big draw is the Guadalupe River, Canyon Lake, and the woods and hills.

They have hot shoes, bath houses, laundry.

The sites: Gravel and mostly level, very few sites were unlevel. You’re surrounded by hills so it is nice and quiet. They are full hook up sites. Each site had a fire ring and picnic table. Small deer herds would move through the park each evening. Many of the campers feed them corn and they know the sounds and come running out of the hills.

The campground is near grocery and hardware stores. Within an hour are several bigger towns with more stores.

Cellular: T-Mobile was decent but not great. They do have Campground WiFi that worked faster.

Canyon Lake Military - Randolph AFB

We love it here. Not for everyone.

We started with day passes, then graduated to renting out the loft cabins, then tried tent camping, and eventually and recently parked our travel trailer in the reservable RV spaces. All in the same vicinity. Made great memories at each stay.

Pro’s: Best rate in town for military (active, retired, $ disabled). Water is beautiful. Fishing can be fantastic. Lots of water activities available for rent or bring your own. Pet friendly, Great for families, most people are very respectful and wonderful to talk to. Good food and stores nearby. Lots of wildlife. Quiet. Close to town and short drive from San Antonio.

Cons: Hard to get ahold of staff to make reservations. Market is extremely expensive and staff isn’t very friendly. Lost and lots of fire ants.

We recommend it to all of our friends and family and bring them often. We love staying in the loft cabins. Some are pet friendly. We have stayed in the mobile homes on the other side of the lake once but that was not a great experience as our things were stolen off our table and covered patio (on Veterans Day) and they were only left unattended for 15 min or less. The mobile home wasn’t very nice but functional at least.

La Hacienda RV Resort & Cottages

La Hacienda RV Resort and Cottages + Lots of Amenities

I'm always on the lookout for new campgrounds nearby my town. It's nice to have a few places to escape to for a quick day or weekend trip. I searched on thedyrt.com for campgrounds nearby and noticed a group of listings near Lake Travis in an area called Hudson Bend. I decided to check them out.

If you are looking for a short, mid or long-term place to RV camp or cabin camp near Lake Travis on the Hudson Bend penisula this might be your best option.

The facilities are modern, clean and offer many amenities. And the people that I talked to that were staying at the park seemed to be friendly and happy with their choice of facilities.

At the entrance there is an office that is open during typical business hours 9-5. Next to the office there was a small pool and courtyard. And next to the pool was a group meeting room.

The park offered a variety of options from short, mid and long-term stays. One gentleman that I met and talked to said that he was a snowbird and had stayed at the park for the past four years every summer. This appeared to be the norm.

There are RV sites that offer back-in parking and drive-through parking. There are also little multi-color cabins that can be rented. The grounds looked like they were well taken care of. There was some open green space and what appeared to be a fenced dog walking area. Each of the RV sites offered a picnic table and electric and water hookups.

The only downside to this RV park was that it was not located directly on the shore of the lake. To access the lake one must drive down the road and visit the marina. Also, the park is rather large, so some might feel there is a lack of privacy. I wouldn't say that this park has great access to nature, it is more of a modern RV park.

Overall, if you're a mid to long term vacationer you might really enjoy this site. If you're looking for access to nature, you might look elsewhere.

Camping areas near Buda, Texas offer convenient access for travelers exploring the Austin metro region. What to do

Local breweries: La Hacienda RV Resort & Cottages has campsites within walking distance of several dining options and a small brewery less than a mile away. "Only a 2 lane road out front but more noise than expected. Liquor store, gas/convince, couple restaurants within walking distance. Small brewery less than a mile down the road," notes one visitor.

Water recreation: River Forest Haven provides tubing opportunities on the Colorado River. "The tubing is great for people with children who don't necessarily want to go tubing two to four hours... Very short route but water safety should be practiced as it is very deep in some areas," advises a camper.

Urban exploration: Pecan Grove RV Park offers a base for city activities. "We were able to ride our bikes to Congress bridge to vote the bats, to the trails of baton creek beltway, the Barton springs pool and lots more. Campground is shaded and has decent facilities," reports one reviewer.

What campers like

Secure facilities: Many campgrounds prioritize security features. A visitor at Austin Lone Star RV Community notes, "Rockport is 35 min either way traffic so it's not a short drive. The park is nice, clean pools, 2 dog parks, it's quiet and secure. Office staff were very nice and accommodating."

Riverside views: Some campgrounds offer waterfront locations with scenic views. At Rio Guadalupe Resort & RV Park, a camper shares, "The best part was the river access. It was beautiful! The river access is Overlooking a canyon wall, with ducks and deer roaming and a huge yard of grass all the way down to the waters edge. White lights illuminate it at night."

Pool facilities: Swimming pools provide relief during hot Texas summers. "Very nice pull through RV park that's CTC friendly," mentions one visitor about Rio Guadalupe Resort & RV Park, while another adds, "nice clean big pool. They rent tubes, rafts and kayaks with shuttle service."

What you should know

Site configurations: RV sites near Buda, Texas vary in layout and spacing. One camper at Oak Forest RV Park observed, "RV Park is very well kept. Nice neighbors too. Heated pool/hot tub look nice. Laundry facilities on-site are credit card operated."

Reservation requirements: Many parks fill quickly during peak seasons and events. At River Forest Haven, a camper noted, "Easy last minute booking which was nice because we couldn't find many other camping spots nearby for this price."

Road noise: Proximity to highways affects sound levels. About Oak Forest RV Park, a visitor mentioned, "Two sections, older for permanent or long term; newer well spaced, sites toward office. Five star private bathrooms, pool areas are clean and well kept. Only con is non existent WIFI."

Tips for camping with families

Kid-focused recreation: Look for campgrounds with play areas. "Family of 5, Grandma, Mom & 3 teenage boys, well organized, had after hours packet ready that was a pleasure to have. Clear and with tag for the truck. Pull through sites, nice trees and a wonderful first time at location," reports a visitor about Austin Lone Star RV Community.

Entertainment options: Some parks offer organized activities. According to a camper at Austin Lone Star RV Community, "Every night they have something going on and they send a text each day with activities. They text you when you get a shipment."

Tips from RVers

Campground connectivity: Internet access varies between parks. A long-term camper at Oak Forest RV Park reported, "Stayed here for almost two years on a contract and I honestly didn't have any issues nor problems other than slow internet or no internet but they resolved the issues I had in a timely manner."

Site leveling: Pay attention to site grading when booking. "Longhorn RV Resort in nearby Niederwald features full hookup sites with water, electric, and sewer connections," while a visitor noted their spot was "right on the water and it was an amazing spot to watch the sunset!"

Utilities placement: Consider your RV's connection configuration. "The septic connection at my spot is at the same height as my RV connection - no matter what I do, I can't get it to have a slope. Most sites are better, but the connection at all of them is raised up about 6". The other thing I'm not happy about is the price ($250 a week)," mentions a camper about Longhorn RV Resort.
