The Mount Rushmore State is home to seven National Park Service sites that range from jewel-encrusted caves to ancient fossil beds. Black Hills National Forest in the western side of the state covers an additional 1.2 million acres that spill over the border into Wyoming and hold the highest peak east of the Rockies. At about 71,000 acres, nearby Custer State Park is one of the largest state parks in the country and home to an annual buffalo roundup that offers a true taste of the American West. Those looking to pick up some speed can head north to Pactola Lake for a day of water skiing and a night of s’mores.

Strap on your backpack and hike the state’s 111-mile Centennial Trail, which provides a north to south taste of the Black Hills through prairie grasslands, dense forests, and high country terrain. Check with the different land management agencies along the way for specifics on where backcountry camping is allowed or where to find established campgrounds. Rather bike? The 109-mile George S. Mickelson Trail runs parallel to the Centennial Trail and is a rails-to-trails, car-free dream.


South Dakota camping is for everyone, and whether you’re exploring by foot or by RV, you’ll be able to find the perfect place to rest your head. Private and public campgrounds near the town of Custer offer RV hookups, and are a quick drive to Crazy Horse Memorial, the world’s largest in-progress mountain carving. Begun in 1948 by sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski at the request of Oglala Lakota Chief, Henry Standing Bear, this memorial is more than a work of art. It is a mission to preserve and honor the culture and tradition of Native Americans. 


After camping on the island in the prairie, make sure to head east and watch the landscape roll into waves of grasslands before crashing into Badlands National Park. Head east farther still, and you’ll meet up with the mighty Missouri River. Big Rig RV Park Campground is one of the oldest campgrounds for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Big Rig RV Park Campground is located in Sturgis, South Dakota and we are open exclusively for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. The campground is perched on top of a hill and has spectacular views the Sturgis and the Black Hills area. We are just two miles from the legendary Sturgis Main Street with very easy access to I-90, Boulder Canyon, Vanocker Canyon, and other Black Hills attractions.

We have a variety of lot campsites especially lots with spectacular views of the beautiful Black Hills. Our campsites feature full service hook-ups including water, sewer, 30/50 amp electricity, and WIFI that actually works. Our campsites have a gravel surface and are nearly perfectly level with little or no blocking required. We have two campgrounds, the original North site launched in 2000, and the South site constructed in 2015. Both sites include a very clean men’s and women’s shower-house.

The official dates for the 2023 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally are Friday, August 4th thru Sunday, August 13th, 2023. However, many of our guests arrive early or come in later in order to avoid the crowds. We are open from Friday, July 28th thru Sunday, August 13th. We have 8 different schedules to accommodate your travel plans. Please come stay with us to enjoy the 2023 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

Welcome to Wickiup Cabins where adventure or relaxation can go hand in hand.  With 20 modernized rustic cabins located on our property, our cabins have all the amenities of home.  Stocked with towels, linens and even cookware for the kitchen, each cabin also has a full bathroom. We have what you are looking for.  Perhaps, a wedding destination, family reunion, small company retreat or a destination for relaxing while enjoying our mountain streams and quiet peaceful settings under our 80 foot spruce trees.
It is here you can also come for hunting, ATV riding, rock climbing above and below us, mountain biking, fishing, riding the Mickelson Trail, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse or historic Lead Deadwood to name some of our Black Hills offerings. 

We are the destination without the cost of a ticket for every ride you have while with us. 

We are located central to the Northern Black Hills at the top of Spearfish Canyon 10 minutes west of Lead Deadwood on Highway 85.  Wickiup has the monopoly on Spearfish Creek.  Long gone are the cabin camps that once provided memories for children to older folks never to be forgotten.  Warm summer days of tubing, fishing, panning for those gold flakes or just skipping rocks.

Conveniently located in the heart of the beautiful Black Hills. Only six miles south of Deadwood, South Dakota on Highway 385, with an altitude of 5,500 feet. A great place to use as a hub and plan day trips throughout the hills. A beautiful place to camp in spacious sites, while enjoying the tall, majestic pines and babbling brooks (Bear Butte and Strawberry Creeks).

We are inspected annually by AAA, Good Sam's, and Woodall's.

Wild Bill's Campground

This is an owned lot that is available for rent on a limited basis for small campers and RV's. This lot is perfect for a safe place to overnight park. Pets welcome but must be on leash and cleaned up after. This lot is on a gravel packed road, directly off the highway. You do have to back up, so smaller rigs are a better fit. Total of 7 people welcome with each reservation. Class C RV's that are the size of a grey hound bus not going to work due to having to back into lot and maneuvering. If you have a large 5th wheel this may not be the lot for you If you do not have good backing skills. 50/30/20 Amp service. No Water. No Sewer. You will be on your own and being quiet is a must. No trailers with ATV's. One RV or camper is allowed per reservation.



Safe Overnight on Ginty Ct in Lead SD 

Our campground is located at the East end of Custer SD. Our property features French creek which has a couple of wide pools. The rest of the creek is fairly narrow with slow-moving water. Lots of water fowl frequent the area as well as deer in the evening. Kids will have a great time exploring the lower acreage. We plan to add new features & amenities to the park every year. We love being near so many scenic spots in South Dakota. We are looking forward to hearing about your adventures during your stay.
