Hiking opportunities with dogs exist at Red Rock Canyon Adventure Park, where pets are permitted on trails when properly leashed. The park's terrain offers varied walking paths suitable for dogs of different activity levels. The nearby Oklahoma City metro area provides emergency veterinary services if needed while camping. Many campgrounds in the area request that pet owners clean up after their animals, with most providing waste disposal stations. Several reviews note that highway noise can be disruptive at certain campgrounds, potentially affecting dogs sensitive to sound. During summer months, the Oklahoma heat requires extra consideration for pets, with morning or evening walks recommended to avoid hot ground surfaces. Overnight temperatures can fluctuate significantly, so appropriate shelter for pets is essential when camping.

      Mustang Run RV Park

      Great campground

We were traveling through and stopped for a couple of nights to visit family. It’s a wonderful park that fit our needs because it was close to our family. Concrete pull through and back ins were level and spacious. Small pool and had several areas to walk our dog. Also a small off lead dog park. Laundry room was nice and very clean $2 to wash and $1.50 to dry. We absolutely loved the park. The only exception is the road noise. The interstate is within sight which does make it easy on and off, but also for some road noise. But we would definitely stay again because that’s the only con for us.

      🐃 🐃 🐃

Plenty of spaces with full hookups, cable/wifi, but spaces are close together. No fire ring. We asked to change our site and they accommodated us. Friendly staff with small store. They have small, but nicely maintained dog park. They have live buffalo, too! Pool, jacuzzi, laundry, and bathhouse.

      Six days of great

The people here are very nice and helpful. We stayed at this park for 6 days waiting for our new hitch to get there and everything was great. The bath house is very nice and there’s a great playground and dog park. I’m very happy we decided to pull in.

      Wanderlust Crossings RV Park

      Absolutely stunning

We picked this place because of its convenience to route 40 and what a suprise. The grounds are stunning! Each space had cement slabs that are level which made our night stop so easy. The grass is thick and meticulously cared for. The dog park even has lush grass! We had an amazing stay.

      Mustang Run RV Park

      Excellent RV Park

This RV Park is very very nice. It sits right beside the highway, so there is quite a bit of traffic noise, but other than that, This RV park is top of the line. I generally prefer a more rural setting, but we came to OKC to visit friends and found this gem. The parking spaces are wide and easy to get in and out of. Of course full hook ups with 50 amp service. There was cable TV, with lots of channels (a luxury we have not experienced on our three month journey). The cell service was good here (AT&T), and the park wifi worked better here than any other place we’ve stayed. It is Springtime here in Oklahoma City, so that means tornado season. Not my favorite thing - torrential rains, hail, wind, thunder, lightening, and every bodies favorite - tornadoes! We stayed here for a week, and nearly every night we had buckets of rain. We were glued to the news channels a couple of nights in fear of golfball sized hail, or worse - the dreaded tornado! This Was V park has 4 or 5 underground shelters, which is somewhat of a comfort. The dog park here is good. They have trash pick up service everyday- you just put your bag out by your camper and they come pick it up. While here, we went to the Bombing Memorial. I would definitely come back - just not in the Spring!

      Oklahoma City East KOA

      Busy campground with excellent management

Beautiful campground with plenty of amenities at a great price. The spaces were a good size to fit our 45’ toyhauler with 2 vehicles (and put the back patio down). There are a fair bit of trees, so big rigs use caution pulling into spaces.

Nice playground for the kids, pool was closed (opens Memorial Day to Labor Day), dog park is large and very well shaded. Laundry room is very clean and well kept.

Approximately 20-30 minutes from OKC zoo & science museum.

Overall wonderful stay with no complaints.

      Wanderlust Crossings RV Park

      Nice quiet spot

Only stayed one night but would have stayed longer. Quiet place with nice landscaping. Concrete level pull thru with full hookups. Picnic table and fire pit at each lot. Has dog park, basketball court, playground and laundry facilities. Cellular good plus free wifi up to 800mb but can upgrade for $5. Cost was $45 a night but offered military discount. Gift shop does not have much but there is a gas station down the road that is easy in/out. Would have given it 5 stars if the nice lady who checked us in didn’t lie to me when I asked if there were vending machines in laundry room as we did not have detergent and she said no. Thank goodness we walked down there anyways.

      Rockwell RV Park

      Ok

Staff was friendly but the wifi is so unstable I couldn't stay connected. Spaces are very close and gravel. Not in the best part of town and a little sketchy. It was ok overall, but overpriced for what you get. Half the washers and dryers weren't working and the machines were dirty. The little dog park was nice but not well kept, and the playground area seemed more like junk storage. No buffalo, but I think that's a good thing because the pen they were kept in seemed really small. I'd stay there again in a pinch, but not proactively. I hope they improve on some things so I can change my mind.

    Guide to Yukon

Red Rock Canyon Adventure Park offers a distinctive camping experience near Yukon, Oklahoma, with sandstone bluffs dropping into a box canyon. Located about an hour west of Oklahoma City, the area features diverse terrain ranging from prairie flatlands to surprising canyon formations where campers can find relief from summer heat. Temperatures fluctuate throughout the year with winters occasionally dropping below freezing and summers regularly climbing above 90°F.

    What to do

Canyon climbing opportunities: Red Rock Canyon Adventure Park provides walls suitable for various climbing skill levels. "The box canyon is set for climbing or repelling, no matter what your experience level. I am a little old lady in my 60's and had the opportunity to climb one of the smaller bluff walls (about 10' high) and was absolutely awed by the scenery once I topped the wall," notes Lyn B., who stayed at Red Rock Canyon Adventure Park.

Fishing at local lakes: Lake El Reno RV Park offers shoreline fishing access with minimal crowds. "Located next to a lake, excellent spot for rv or tent sites. Staff is super friendly," reports Carl M. at Lake El Reno RV Park. The small lake provides a peaceful setting for anglers seeking bass and catfish.

Hiking with elevation changes: Arcadia Lake features wooded trails with moderate terrain suitable for day hikes. "Great campsite! Picnic tables and fire pits. Walking distance to the beautiful lake. Fairly private site lots of trees between each. Plenty of sites to choose from water front or in the woods," shares Madison P. who visited Arcadia Lake. The trails offer unusual elevation changes in an otherwise flat region.

    What campers like

Unique wildlife viewing: Several campgrounds feature unexpected animal encounters. "The kids loved the 7 baby Buffalo on the property. Linda had wonderful customer service and accommodated our COVID request for phone check-in and payment," writes Lauren W. about her stay at Rockwell RV Park.

Storm shelters for safety: Oklahoma weather can change rapidly, making storm shelters a valued amenity. "They are well lit, have a tornado shelter and are near a multitude of stores and restaurants," notes Elizabeth S. about her experience at Rockwell RV Park. Many campgrounds near Yukon provide these shelters for visitor safety during severe weather.

Year-round accessibility: Most campgrounds in the area remain open throughout all seasons. "This park is an awesome place to stop. They have a decent indoor pool, buffalo in an enclosure, and laundry facilities. They have a church service on Sundays, and they bake muffins each morning that are free for guests," reports Bret N., highlighting Rockwell RV Park's all-season amenities.

    What you should know

Self-service check-in options: Many parks offer after-hours registration. "Campground was great because you can pay 24/7 by filling out the envelope at the office and putting it in the drop box. Interstate noise is definitely loud but also heard an owl as we were laying it down," explains Amelia R. from Lake El Reno RV Park. Arrive with cash for self-registration if planning a late arrival.

Traffic noise considerations: Several campgrounds experience highway noise that affects specific sites. "Close to a highway and hear it, landfill right behind the park too. Hook ups are not great either. Many more full time residents than campers. Close to shopping. Staff was friendly," notes Deb K. about her stay at Rockwell RV Park.

Seasonal storm preparedness: Oklahoma tornado season peaks from March through June. "During our off-season visit. We parked in the E/W spots, east lot 1-20. There were 6 other RV's. This was my best nights sleep for days. Highway noise could be heard outside but didn't bother us overnight," shares DK S., describing their experience at Lake El Reno RV Park.

    Tips for camping with families

Recreation amenities check: Family-friendly campgrounds often include additional activities. "This place has everything you need! Lots of games for the kids, mini golf, a playground, clean bath house, laundry, and even a bat and grill! We bought post cards and mailed them to family and visited the good park. I only wish we were staying longer," writes E.M. about Twin Fountains RV Park.

Site selection for shade: Summer temperatures can reach uncomfortable levels without adequate shade. "We have taken our family to Arcadia many times to camp. While it's close to the city, it feels far away. Lake activities and hiking are available," says Angela H. who stayed at Arcadia Lake. The wooded sites provide natural cooling during hot months.

Off-peak visits: Scheduling trips on weekdays can improve the experience. "We stayed 6 days while visiting kids/grandkids. The park was empty during the week, completely full on the weekend. They do rigorously enforce quiet hours though," observes Dale Y. about Central State Park Campground. Quieter weekdays offer better site selection and less competition for amenities.

    Tips from RVers

Pet exercise areas: Pet friendly camping near Yukon, Oklahoma includes properties with dedicated dog facilities. "Plenty of spaces with full hookups, cable/wifi, but spaces are close together. No fire ring. We asked to change our site and they accommodated us. Friendly staff with small store. They have small, but nicely maintained dog park," notes Sean & Holly H. about their experience at Rockwell RV Park.

Concrete pad availability: Level sites with solid foundations are available at several campgrounds. "Park is well kept and convenient! Right in the middle of the city off I-35 and yet still quiet. All the sites are paved and level with grass and the occasional tree in between them. Super friendly and helpful staff!" explains Mandy B. from Roadrunner RV Park.

Utility placement considerations: Some parks have unusual hookup configurations. "Some sites have sewer hookups toward the far rear with a slight incline, so it may take an extension or 2 pending your rig and some imagination," advises Daniel L. regarding Roadrunner RV Park. Carrying additional hose lengths helps accommodate these variations.
