Canal Fulton Canoe Livery & Campground

    Great location, laking facilities

The campground runs along 100 yards or so of the tuscarawas River. Sandwiches by a railroad, and walking path. They allow you to drive to your spot to pack/unpack, but have to park in the lot. While the campsites are scenic and what you expect... the washroom, especially the shower are pretty lacking. There's a nice covered picnic area with grills available with your own gas. And a small (toddler) kids area. All in all, a great cheap spot for a quick stay.

We stayed mid September and there was live music walking distance every night, a cute ice cream shop a short walk over the bridge, and a nice playground on the other side of the river that was also an easy walk.

I didnt partake in the canoes... but they do a river clean up monthly and really seem to enjoy what they do.

All in all a great cheap spot for a quick stay.

    Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA

Quiet, peaceful, close to all the things

We stopped here for a couple nights to go to a Cleveland Guardians game and go to Cuyahoga National Park. It was within great proximity to both and had all the amenities the kids and I love. Swimming (wish it were open a little later…) laundry 24/7, a game room, store with just what we needed to pick up a few things, a pond that seemed to always have someone fishing at it (that’s a good thing) and a big wide sites to spread out and have a nice campfire in. (Wood available 24/7 and trash pick up at the site in the AM). It’s always nerve wracking when the fire pits are close to the rigs - loved that these sits were wide. And while there are likely people here it feels nice and spread out.

    Woodside Lake Park

Old Park With Iron Laden Well Water Beware

I stayed at this park for 2 months in 2023 and was planing on staying for 5 months in 2025. I left after 2 months due to iron& sulfur laden well water that is provided in at least half the park. I spent hundreds of dollars trying to filter and clean up the water to no avail. It damages everything and they won't put a treatment system in at the well pump like the 2nd well has so you can filter it to an acceptable level for drinking, cooking, washing etc.

In 2023 I was in a section that was treated and my filters/softener did a acceptable job to make it work. I Used the laundry facilities also. This trip to see family in 2025 I was in a different section and by the second day it was unacceptable disgusting turbid rusty water with sulfur odor. I bought additional filters for Ferrous Iron Water treatment and remediation along with iron out chemical for cleaning fixtures and plumbing system on the camper. It barely worked well enough for a couple weeks between filter changes and rinsing the system for shower use. I Had to buy drinking water in town every few days for cooking, drinking and brushing teeth etc.

New owners bought the park in 2023 and have increased monthly rent from$750 a month to$950 a month but don't seem to care enough about the health and comfort of their guest to do anything with the well water for a majority of the park. Let alone any of the other infrastructure or"amenities" to be generous in there reference This year even the laundry machines where too disgusting to use that we had to go into town for laundry also.

The park needs major renovations to just bring it up to modern standards. The bath house is in decrepit condition moldy smelly and barely cleaned anytime I was over there. Site pads are rip rap 1" to 4" size rock with no fine rock coverings, or in some areas smoother rock and dirt but nowhere close to flat or level. Water drainage when its raining is deplorable and you very well might be in a mud pit at your doorway.

It's sad there are no decent RV parks in the Cleveland area, just old campgrounds that have added hook-ups and market themselves as RV parks and now charge like they are RV Resorts. Reserve a space at your own risk and definitely verify where and what water source you are on. Bring plenty of filters and plan on sanitizing your system after staying there.

Guide to Fairview Park

Camping spots near Fairview Park, Ohio are concentrated within a 20-30 mile radius of the western Cleveland suburb, providing access to both urban amenities and natural settings. The region experiences four distinct seasons with summer highs averaging 80-85°F and winter lows often below freezing, creating a limited camping season from April through October for most facilities. Most campgrounds sit at elevations between 700-1,200 feet above sea level, characteristic of Ohio's glaciated plateau landscape.

What to do

Kayaking on local lakes: West Branch State Park Campground offers excellent water recreation with multiple inlets to explore. "There are many inlets to explore or fish. There is a small beach at the campground but a larger one on the other side of the lake," notes one camper, highlighting the park's water access.

Visit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA serves as a convenient base for Cleveland attractions. "We stopped here for a couple nights to go to a Cleveland Guardians game and go to Cuyahoga National Park. It was within great proximity to both," shares a visitor who appreciated the location.

Disc golf courses: Several area campgrounds offer disc golf opportunities. At Punderson State Park Campground, visitors enjoy a range of activities. "Opportunities for disc golf, archery range, canoeing/kayaking/row boats, swimming (no lifeguard) and golf," notes one reviewer describing the park's amenities.

Hiking trail exploration: The region offers numerous hiking options varying in difficulty. "This area is filled magnificent trails that you wouldn't believe are so close to a highly populated city," explains a Cuyahoga Valley visitor, highlighting the contrast between urban proximity and natural settings.

What campers like

Private wooded sites: Many campgrounds feature secluded spots with tree coverage. At Findley State Park Campground, "We have enjoyed the shade at our site this week and the space between us and our neighbors," according to one reviewer who appreciated the layout.

Clean facilities: Well-maintained bathrooms and showers are consistently mentioned in positive reviews. At West Branch State Park, one camper notes, "best bathrooms around! showers great. bathrooms great. lots of 'lakefront' spots," highlighting the park's cleanliness standards.

Weekend entertainment: Willow Lake Park Inc offers regular social activities. "Stay here for the holiday weekend, they offer plenty of activities for everyone. Had a band each night! Bad Juju was definitely a favorite of mine," shares one visitor who enjoyed the entertainment options.

Lake swimming access: Many campgrounds provide swimming opportunities. "The beach was clean and nice," notes a visitor to American Wilderness Campground, while another camper at Findley State Park mentions, "Wonderful state park with lots of trails and a lake. Took the kayaks out on the lake and had a great time."

What you should know

Site leveling challenges: Several campgrounds have uneven terrain requiring preparation. At West Branch State Park, one camper shared, "Our site was labeled slight slope. That was a joke. We were only off 2 inches side to side but front to back we had to lower the front 15 inches."

Limited availability: Popular campgrounds fill quickly, especially on weekends. At Findley State Park, "Very nice, comfortable campground, kids loved it. Only downfall is trying to find an open spot for reservations. Place is booked most of the time. If you're planning a holiday weekend you need to book 6 months in advance."

Water quality concerns: Some locations have water issues. At Willow Lake Park, one reviewer noted, "The water, while I'm sure was fine, had an odor to it so I didn't partake," suggesting campers might want to bring their own drinking water.

Limited camping in Cuyahoga Valley: Despite being a popular park, camping options are restricted. "Cuyahoga Valley National Park is a unique experience. Know going in that there aren't a lot of camping options inside the park boundaries," advises one visitor about the limited availability.

Tips for camping with families

Look for dedicated activity areas: Campgrounds with organized recreation enhance family trips. American Wilderness Campground offers "activities for all ages. Fishing lake and swimming lake are separate. Multiple bathroom/shower locations. Game room, snack pavilion and general store."

Consider tent site locations: At Heritage Farms, "You do have to carry your belongings into the campsites, but it wasn't too horrible for us, esp. since our campsite was right off the walking path. The provided wagons and wheelbarrows make it easier too." This unique setup can be an adventure for kids.

Check playground proximity: Several campgrounds feature play areas. "A quick walk to the playground for the kids, lake and store weren't much further then restrooms with showers were right there as well," notes a camper about the convenient layout.

Plan for weather variables: Ohio's changeable conditions require preparation. "We ran into some unfortunate weather so didn't get the full experience," shares a Heritage Farms visitor, suggesting families should pack for various conditions.

Tips from RVers

Check electrical service: Many older campgrounds have limited electrical capacity. At Silver Springs Campground, "Only 3-30 amp hooks ups, the rest are 20 amp," which can be insufficient for larger RVs with multiple appliances.

Site selection matters: Research specific sites before booking. At Punderson State Park, "Very few full hookups. Rest of the sites only have 15-20 amp service. The lots are not even close to level. You will need a lot of blocks to get close to level. Saw one RV with auto levelers with his tire about foot off the ground."

Dump station accessibility: Not all campgrounds offer convenient dump stations. At Willow Lake Park, one camper reported, "They don't have the technology to email you a confirmation or receipt... For a prepaid fee, you can schedule an appointment to have someone come by and dump you out. I overheard our neighbors say they would never stay there again... they paid for a dump but the person never showed up."
