    Punderson State Park Campground

    Solo tent camping went well

I had originally gotten lot #81 but quickly got it switched to #83 because it was just waaaay better. Flatter ground and I was able to go deeper into the woods.

I went the first week of October, and on weekdays, which was great because I had no neighbors.

Staff was great, check in area also has a little store with all the essentials stocked up, lots of trails, great for biking and hiking, a park for the kids, fishing, canoeing, showers, flush toilets, all that fancy stuff was there.

Only down side was occasional road noise which I just can't seem to escape in my area of Ohio. And I personally wouldn't go here on weekends or over the summer because there are RV sites everywhere, which is another thing that dominates my area of Ohio.

Going again, as long as I don't have the kids, I would try for a test space as far from the road and is deep in the forest as possible. Do that at tge right time of year and I think this will be a great spot for me in the future

    Woodside Lake Park

    Nice quiet camping

Quiet tent campsite parked in this area. There are quite a few RVs parked here and it appears lively, but the tent area in hilltop was quiet and secluded. Very kid friendly. At night, there was highway noise in the background. A lot to do here but also very close to Cuyahoago Valley National Park.

Canal Fulton Canoe Livery & Campground

    Great location, laking facilities

The campground runs along 100 yards or so of the tuscarawas River. Sandwiches by a railroad, and walking path. They allow you to drive to your spot to pack/unpack, but have to park in the lot. While the campsites are scenic and what you expect... the washroom, especially the shower are pretty lacking. There's a nice covered picnic area with grills available with your own gas. And a small (toddler) kids area. All in all, a great cheap spot for a quick stay.

We stayed mid September and there was live music walking distance every night, a cute ice cream shop a short walk over the bridge, and a nice playground on the other side of the river that was also an easy walk.

I didnt partake in the canoes... but they do a river clean up monthly and really seem to enjoy what they do.

All in all a great cheap spot for a quick stay.

    East Harbor State Park Campground

    Beautiful but Buzzy

I booked one night here for the amenities on a cross-country trip.

The laundry, showers, and water fill stations were convenient/ well-maintained.

    I gave only 4-star however 2 reasons.

    1. for the 5hr lawn mowing caravan that started at 7am in every direction. I’m not even sure what they were mowing since the lawns looked freshly cut. It was obnoxious! And
    2. not enough signage. For example, I had to ask for directions to the laundry rooms and then they are quarter only with no change machine. I had to make a trip back to the office for change.

Overall, a nice spot with all the amenities you could need. Plenty of room and nice multi-use trail to the beach was great!

Camping spots near North Olmsted, Ohio primarily offer opportunities within a 30-mile radius in northeast Ohio's temperate climate zone. The area experiences distinct seasonal changes with warm summers averaging 80°F and cold winters that limit camping availability from late fall through early spring. Most campgrounds in this region sit at elevations between 600-1200 feet above sea level, creating varying drainage conditions that campers should consider when selecting sites.

What to do

Hiking nearby trails: At Findley State Park Campground, you can access multiple nature paths. "Findley state park is well maintained large park! We can easily get lost on 3 mile hikes in the woods and still be on marked paths! The roads are paved and excellent for biking and skating," notes Kimberly C.

Water activities: Several camping locations offer lake access for kayaking and fishing. "Wonderful state park with lots of trails and a lake. Took the kayaks out on the lake and had a great time," Linda R. shares about Findley State Park.

Explore Cuyahoga Valley: The proximity to Cuyahoga Valley National Park makes it a popular destination. "There are surprisingly limited camping options available at Cuyahoga Valley. This urban park, situated between Cleveland and Akron, Ohio, serves its community in more of a day-use way," explains SwitchbackKids.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Visitors frequently comment on the maintenance of campground facilities. "American Wilderness Campground is nice and clean and laid out good we had a good time with our family! The beach was clean and nice," reports Jacob B.

Entertainment options: Many Willow Lake Park visitors appreciate the organized activities. "Stay here for the holiday weekend, they offer plenty of activities for everyone. Had a band each night! Bad Juju was definitely a favorite of mine," shares Ivory L.

Private sites: Some camping areas offer secluded options. "I stayed here with some friends for one night and I would love to go back. Our site was beautiful and private. We also had a lot of space. We couldn't really see or hear any other campers," notes Abbey E. about Heritage Farms.

What you should know

Reservation requirements: Many campgrounds fill quickly during peak season. "Very nice, comfortable campground, kids loved it. Only downfall is trying to find an open spot for reservations. Place is booked most of the time. If you're planning a holiday weekend you need to book 6 months in advance," advises Jeffrey L. about Findley State Park.

Water quality concerns: Water issues affect some campgrounds in the region. "The water, while I'm sure was fine, had an odor to it so I didn't partake," notes Wilson W. about his stay at Willow Lake Park.

Seasonal limitations: Most camping options operate from spring through fall. Findley State Park remains open year-round, but services may be limited during winter months.

Facility variations: Bathroom and shower facilities vary significantly between campgrounds. "The bathrooms and shower house were clean as well felt so comfortable made lots of friends," reports John C. about American Wilderness Campground.

Tips for camping with families

Dog-friendly options: Silver Springs Campground offers excellent pet amenities. "Fantastic dog park with a swimming beach for dogs only. Fun to watch them play even if you don't have a dog," notes Judy F.

Kid-friendly activities: Look for campgrounds with dedicated children's programs. "We love the fishing available here we also had the kids they enjoyed the arcade and gem mining we also liked the access to self serve laundry and camp store as well," shares Jessica J. about American Wilderness.

Level sites for setup: Some campgrounds have challenging terrain. "Semi-level. Our first visit at site #1 was very difficult to level a 24 ft trailer and full sun. Returned a few weeks later to site #4, was much more level and full shade," advises Gary G. about Silver Springs Campground.

Spacious camping areas: Families need room to spread out. "The sites are nice and large. The main problem was very hard to level and soft grass they don't have a well compacted area for your tt/rv," Jeffrey L. mentions about Silver Springs.

Tips from RVers

Overnight parking options: For travelers passing through, Vermilion Valley Ohio Turnpike RV Lot provides convenient facilities. "Clean with electric hookup got $20. Dump station as you exit. Gas and convenience items are extra helpful. Safe environment to snooze overnight," reports Susan B.

Hookup availability: Electric service varies between campgrounds. "Only 3-30 amp hooks ups, the rest are 20 amp," notes Judy F. about Silver Springs Campground.

Site conditions: Many campgrounds have grass or gravel sites rather than paved pads. "Sites are grass or overgrown gravel," Gary G. mentions about Silver Springs Campground.

Big rig accessibility: Some campgrounds can accommodate larger RVs, but site selection is important. "The sites range from small to large for the same price," advises Crystal A. about Findley State Park.
