Best Campgrounds near Olmsted Falls, OH

Campgrounds near Olmsted Falls, Ohio range from established RV parks to primitive tent sites, with several options within a 30-minute drive. American Wilderness Campground in Grafton offers tent camping, RV sites, cabins, and glamping accommodations from late April through mid-October. Findley State Park Campground, approximately 25 miles southwest, provides year-round access to campsites with electric hookups and basic cabins. The region includes both privately operated campgrounds and public recreation areas, with most developed sites offering water and electric hookups.

Road conditions throughout the area remain accessible for standard vehicles, with most campgrounds featuring gravel or paved entrance roads. The camping season typically runs from April through October, though some facilities like Findley State Park remain open year-round. Permits and reservations are strongly recommended, especially during summer weekends when sites fill quickly. One camper noted, "This state park was very welcome after our first two unlucky Ohio state park experiences. We had no trouble pulling in at 3 pm on a Sunday after Labor Day with no reservations and snagging a very nice spot." Cell service varies by location, with better coverage at campgrounds closer to Cleveland and Akron metropolitan areas.

Campers report high satisfaction with sites that offer water features or wooded settings. Several developed campgrounds in the area feature fishing ponds, swimming lakes, and access to hiking trails. The proximity to Cuyahoga Valley National Park provides additional recreational opportunities, though camping is no longer offered within the national park boundaries. A review from The Dyrt mentioned, "Cuyahoga Valley was our first stop on the planned trip to each National Park. What a jewel. Tucked in between Akron and Cleveland, this quiet NP has numerous hiking trails, historic buildings and the remains of the Ohio and Erie Canal." Noise levels vary by location, with campgrounds near highways experiencing more ambient sound than those in more secluded settings. Family-friendly amenities like playgrounds, camp stores, and organized activities are common at the larger established campgrounds in the region.

    Punderson State Park Campground

    Solo tent camping went well

I had originally gotten lot #81 but quickly got it switched to #83 because it was just waaaay better. Flatter ground and I was able to go deeper into the woods.

I went the first week of October, and on weekdays, which was great because I had no neighbors.

Staff was great, check in area also has a little store with all the essentials stocked up, lots of trails, great for biking and hiking, a park for the kids, fishing, canoeing, showers, flush toilets, all that fancy stuff was there.

Only down side was occasional road noise which I just can't seem to escape in my area of Ohio. And I personally wouldn't go here on weekends or over the summer because there are RV sites everywhere, which is another thing that dominates my area of Ohio.

Going again, as long as I don't have the kids, I would try for a test space as far from the road and is deep in the forest as possible. Do that at tge right time of year and I think this will be a great spot for me in the future

    Woodside Lake Park

    Nice quiet camping

Quiet tent campsite parked in this area. There are quite a few RVs parked here and it appears lively, but the tent area in hilltop was quiet and secluded. Very kid friendly. At night, there was highway noise in the background. A lot to do here but also very close to Cuyahoago Valley National Park.

Ohio’s largest state park. Can accommodate big rigs. Most sites are electric, a few with full hookups. Many pull through sites. Very scenic

Canal Fulton Canoe Livery & Campground

    Great location, laking facilities

The campground runs along 100 yards or so of the tuscarawas River. Sandwiches by a railroad, and walking path. They allow you to drive to your spot to pack/unpack, but have to park in the lot. While the campsites are scenic and what you expect... the washroom, especially the shower are pretty lacking. There's a nice covered picnic area with grills available with your own gas. And a small (toddler) kids area. All in all, a great cheap spot for a quick stay.

We stayed mid September and there was live music walking distance every night, a cute ice cream shop a short walk over the bridge, and a nice playground on the other side of the river that was also an easy walk.

I didnt partake in the canoes... but they do a river clean up monthly and really seem to enjoy what they do.

All in all a great cheap spot for a quick stay.

    East Harbor State Park Campground

    Beautiful but Buzzy

I booked one night here for the amenities on a cross-country trip.

The laundry, showers, and water fill stations were convenient/ well-maintained.

    I gave only 4-star however 2 reasons.

    1. for the 5hr lawn mowing caravan that started at 7am in every direction. I’m not even sure what they were mowing since the lawns looked freshly cut. It was obnoxious! And
    2. not enough signage. For example, I had to ask for directions to the laundry rooms and then they are quarter only with no change machine. I had to make a trip back to the office for change.

Overall, a nice spot with all the amenities you could need. Plenty of room and nice multi-use trail to the beach was great!

Guide to Olmsted Falls

Campgrounds near Olmsted Falls, Ohio range from rustic tent sites to full-service RV parks within a 30-mile radius. The region sits at an elevation of about 780 feet in northeast Ohio's glaciated plateau, creating a mix of wooded areas and open fields ideal for camping. Most campgrounds remain accessible from April through October, with summer high temperatures averaging 80-85°F and overnight lows around 60-65°F.

What to Do

Fishing opportunities: Silver Springs Campground features a catch-and-release fishing pond alongside a dedicated dog beach area. "We loved the fishing available here we also had the kids they enjoyed the arcade and gem mining we also liked the access to self serve laundry and camp store as well," notes Jessica J. about American Wilderness Campground.

Hiking trails: Explore the extensive network of hiking paths at Findley State Park Campground. "Wonderful state park with lots of trails and a lake. Took the kayaks out on the lake and had a great time," shares Linda R. The park maintains several miles of marked woodland trails suitable for all skill levels.

Water activities: Many local campgrounds offer swimming opportunities in lakes or pools. The Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA provides a pool overlooking a lake. "The pool was so nice it wasn't too crowded and the view over looking the 'lake' was so pretty," explains Traci F.

What Campers Like

Clean facilities: Campers consistently praise campgrounds that maintain clean bathrooms and showers. "The bathrooms are portojons and there are no showers, however there is THE best dog park I have ever seen in this area. So my dogs loved this campground more than me and that was worth it," reports Kate W. about Silver Springs Campground.

Privacy between sites: Site spacing varies significantly between campgrounds. Heritage Farms offers more seclusion than many other options. "Sites are spread apart nicely. Each one has a picnic table and fire ring. Grassy spots that are fairly level and mowed. Came with firewood and a little kindling too," according to Josh W.

Evening entertainment: Weekend activities enhance the camping experience at several locations. "We stayed for the holiday weekend, they offer plenty of activities for everyone. Had a band each night! Bad Juju was definitely a favorite of mine," writes Ivory L. about Willow Lake Park, which hosts regular weekend concerts and social gatherings.

What You Should Know

Reservation requirements: Many campgrounds fill quickly, particularly on summer weekends. "Very nice, comfortable campground, kids loved it. Only downfall is trying to find an open spot for reservations. Place is booked most of the time. If you're planning a holiday weekend you need to book 6 months in advance," advises Jeffrey L. about Findley State Park.

Water quality concerns: Several campgrounds in the area have well water that campers note has an odor. "The water, while I'm sure was fine, had an odor to it so I didn't partake," reports Wilson W. about Willow Lake Campground. Consider bringing drinking water if staying at campgrounds using well systems.

Seasonal operations: Most campgrounds in the area operate from April through mid-October. American Wilderness Campground runs from April 28 to October 15, while the Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA operates May 1 to October 15. Some campsites remain open year-round, including Findley State Park.

Tips for Camping with Families

Playground access: Many campgrounds offer dedicated play areas for children. "Wonderful state park with nice trails and a lake. The campground is very well maintained and the most of the sites are spacious. Would recommend to anyone," shares Greg A. about Findley State Park.

Kid-friendly activities: Look for campgrounds with scheduled events and recreation options. "We had a good time taking the kids to the arcade," says Luis G. about American Wilderness Campground, which offers various organized activities throughout the camping season.

Swimming options: Many families prioritize campgrounds with swimming areas. "It has a pond, and a large pavilion, nice bathrooms & showers," notes Mike F. about Willow Lake Park, which features both a swimming lake and fishing pond.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling challenges: Some campgrounds have uneven terrain requiring additional effort. "The lots are nice and large. The main problem was very hard to level and soft grass they don't have a well compacted area for your tt/rv," explains Jeffrey L. about Silver Springs Campground.

Electric hookup availability: Electricity options vary across campgrounds, with some offering limited amperage. "Only 3-30 amp hooks ups, the rest are 20 amp. No reservations," notes Judy F. about Silver Springs Campground, highlighting the need to confirm your electrical requirements before booking.

Overnight transit options: For RVers passing through, the Vermilion Valley Ohio Turnpike RV Lot offers convenient overnight parking with basic amenities. "Clean with electric hookup for $20. Dump station as you exit. Gas and convenience items are extra helpful. Safe environment to snooze overnight," recommends Susan B.
