    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Ortonville Equestrian Campground at Ortonville Recreation Area provides rustic camping facilities for horse owners within a natural setting. The campground features picnic tables, fire rings, and vault toilets specifically designed to accommodate riders and their horses. Trail access is a key feature, with riders citing the well-maintained bridle paths and convenient trailer parking as standout benefits. The campground offers tent and RV sites appropriate for equestrians, though accommodations remain basic with no electric hookups or water connections at individual sites. The grounds are open year-round, allowing for four-season riding opportunities through the varied Michigan terrain.

Located within a larger recreation area featuring two lakes, the Ortonville Equestrian Campground connects directly to the park's extensive trail system. Horse owners appreciate the dedicated staging area separate from the main campground, allowing for efficient saddling and preparation before hitting the trails. Drinking water is available for both riders and horses in common areas, though campers should bring additional water containers for their animals during peak summer months. The sandy soil throughout the recreation area provides good drainage after rain, preventing excessively muddy conditions that can be problematic for horses. The campground's rustic nature appeals particularly to riders seeking an authentic outdoor experience away from more developed facilities. Trail connections allow equestrians to explore significant portions of the 5,400-acre recreation area through woodlands and along lakeshores.

Equestrian Campground — Ortonville Recreation Area

      2 Great Lakes & A Horse Camp

The campground here is actually a quite popular equestrian campground. There is a campground and a staging area. Rustic vault toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings. The campground itself isn’t really much to write home about (unless you have horses that is). The lakes and launches are however very nice and there are some great trail systems through the area.

      Addison Oaks County Park

      Peaceful

This was our first time camping. The park has a beautiful 2.5 mile trail around the lake that makes this campground great. We brought our own kayaks but they do rent boats. We saw deer and rabbit. Our spot #18 I felt was spacious and not to close to the people next to us and trees behind us. We had privacy and it was quiet. The people we did talk to were all very friendly. We heard the showers were decent but we used our own. I would stay again.

      Addison Oaks County Park

A little slice of wilderness in the siburbs

Always a great local retreat away from our hectic daily life. Don’t have to travel far to find some nature. Most sites generously sized, hookups available, clean restrooms. Nice updated playgrounds for the kids, trails to bike, planned activities on weekends. Only wish there was a swimming lake, but alas, only for fishing and canoeing.

      Addison Oaks County Park

      Modern and quiet

This is a great family campground. I’ve only stayed in section D with my tent. It is heavily wooded and I don’t see my neighbors in section D. Cell phone tower is close by. We especially enjoy the intermediate level mountain bike trails. Showers are hot. Lots of deer to see at dusk.

      Covenant Hills Camp

      Busy busy busy

Nice family/ Christian campgrounds... ok for those who care not enjoy alcohol beverages while vacationing, great activities set up for the kids. Clean and cautious due to Covid as necessary. Definitely recommend to families w kids that are on the conservative side and would like to keep their faith religiously on sundays with service and etc. As well as always being actively filled. Had my step daughters 8th grade graduations done two years in a row there at their auditorium as well.

      Addison Oaks County Park

      Friendly? Spacious lots of activities

We stayed in area A in a water/electric site. It was a Boo Fest weekend. Lots of socially distanced activities for the kids and a scavenger hunt (finding clues on signs in park to solve a mystery). There 26 miles of bike trails and hiking. Many in park are paved. Also a disc golf course. Sites in our area were spacious.

Park was clean, guests well behaved, staff helpful. We will be back

      Covenant Hills Camp

      Group camping for Sukkot

We had a large group of families with varying ages and abilities.  We used multiple different styles of cabins and a few RV sites, as well as various buildings for activities.  All in all, it was an incredible time and I highly recommend it.  Staff was helpful with activities such as archery but, seldom seen if not directly helping with things.  It was nice to feel like we had the run of the place but, still know that help was available if we needed it.  The location is pretty great, off the beaten path but, within 30 minutes of major stores and conveniences.
Laundry facilities would have been awesome since we were staying a full week but, there was a laundromat only about 15 minutes away.
The food selection was about what you'd expect in a public school cafeteria and resulted in health-minded guests needing to make their own meals in the cabins and meals were VERY rushed, only allowing 30 minutes for our large group to get their food, eat and be out of the building.
The grounds were well maintained for a rustic campground but, bathrooms and meeting buildings were adequately upgraded and offered pleasant amenities, such as a game room, large gym and decent air conditioning.

We had a great time here and look forward to returning one day!
