Best Campgrounds near Durango, CO
Durango camping areas give you lots of different options in southwestern Colorado. You can stay at Mesa Verde National Park, which has cool ancient ruins along with good camping spots. The park's Morefield Campground has clean sites with bathrooms and other basics you'll need. If you have an RV, check out the Bayfield All You Need Convenient RV Park where you'll get full hookups and it's close to things you might want to see. The area has both the Rocky Mountains and Colorado River nearby, making the camping pretty good. Camping works best in summer when it's warm enough to visit places like the Great Sand Dunes. Winter gets really cold here with snow that can block some roads to campgrounds. The main roads to most camping areas are in good shape, but always check road conditions if you're coming in winter. Some of the more out-of-the-way spots need vehicles with higher clearance. Durango has camping that works whether you like history, being in nature, or just hanging out near the water.
