Best Campgrounds near Omro, WI

The small city of Omro, Wisconsin sits along the Fox River, providing a central hub for camping options that range from full-service RV parks to state-managed recreation areas. Omro RV Park offers in-town convenience with electric hookups and basic amenities for both tent and RV campers. Within a 30-minute drive, visitors can access High Cliff State Park Campground on Lake Winnebago, featuring year-round camping with spacious sites adjacent to hiking trails and limestone formations. Other nearby options include Hickory Oaks Campground in Oshkosh and Fremont RV Campground to the northwest, which offers boat-in access and glamping accommodations. County parks throughout the region provide additional camping opportunities with varying levels of amenities and natural settings.

Wisconsin's seasonal camping patterns significantly affect availability near Omro, with most campgrounds operating from May through October. Reservations are essential during summer weekends and holiday periods when waterfront sites fill quickly. As one camper noted, "Even when full there wasn't enough noise to mention. The shower house was fine, and the camp host was friendly and quick to clean sites." Spring camping may encounter muddy conditions, particularly at sites near water bodies. Fall brings spectacular foliage but cooler temperatures, especially at night. Most campgrounds provide fire rings and picnic tables, while amenities like showers, flush toilets, and dump stations vary by location. Cell service is generally reliable throughout the area.

Water access represents a major draw for campers in the Omro region, with the Fox River, Lake Winnebago, and smaller lakes offering fishing, boating, and swimming opportunities. Sites backing up to water tend to be more popular but also more exposed to weather. "We could canoe right from our site or use the boat launch," reported one visitor at a nearby river campground. Wooded sites provide more privacy and protection from wind but may be farther from water recreation. Hiking trails connect many campgrounds to natural features, with the Ice Age Trail accessible from several locations. Wildlife viewing opportunities include deer, various bird species, and vocal frogs that campers frequently mention in reviews. Most campgrounds welcome pets with standard leash requirements.

Fon du Lac County Waupun Park

    Oak/hickory forest

The campground is in a beautiful oak/hickory forest with many birds, chipmunks and skeeters(pack protection). We stayed on site 22 which was a nine minute walk from the toilet and had a street light. There are water spigots throughout. Site 21 or 23 would be better. The sites are large and the ones on the outside of the loop are very private. The campground was quiet, especially after dark! There is a train horn occasionally, but it’s distant. The showers were hot and clean. The playground was fun. There is a pickle ball court, so bring paddles. There is also a walking trail.

Fon du Lac County Waupun Park

    Peaceful wooded camping

Quiet level throughout. Spots for a couple tents and a camper at each site. Disc golf and a small fishing area. Golf course right next-door so close you could walk to. Most of the sites were in a wooded area, which gives you some privacy. Only downfall for us was distance to the restroom as there’s only one so if you’re in the back of the campground, you gotta walk all the way upfront.

    Waupun Park Campground

Waupun County Park WI - Campground

Family friendly campground, playgrounds, pickle ball court, showers, clean bathrooms, fire rings, shared water spigots & power at camp site. There is an outdoor pavilion for groups, firewood for sale at host. Lamp posts light camp road but not overwhelming. Nice shaded sites with mature white oak trees. Enjoyed and recommend if looking for full service campsite.

    Pride of America Camping Resort

    Local Favorite

We just purchased our fifth wheel last month, and a week after we took our first trip to POA. During that weekend, we booked our next trip for a full week. We loved the sites in the back (800s), amenities and the staff. We definitely plan to be back often!

    Astico County Park

Dark enough to see the Milky Way

The sites are a decent size and well maintained. We easily backed in and leveled our pop up. The shower house is clean. The campground is busy this weekend, but was quite at dark. It was dark enough to see the Milky Way. The toilet is quite a walk, but they are adding more. There is a big playground at the top of the hill. On other trips we’ve enjoyed the swings nearer the river and the artesian wells. The hiking trails are nice and there is a restored rail bridge. We’ve also fished and rented kayaks on previous visits. There is a small cemetery at the top of the hill to explore and learn more about the people in the area.

    The Playful Goose Campground

    Spacious lots, nice staff

Indoor pool great for kids. Bath house was a bit dated but okay. Coin operated showers, 25 cent for several minutes. Pay attention to reservation online or call….they have multiple types of sites. We accidentally got one without sewer, but they have dump tank on property so no issue. They have fire pits on the sites as well as picnic tables. Nice trails within different areas of campground.

    Fremont RV Campground

    Overpriced

We stayed here for a night to visit Union Farm Cheese Factory. The campground was expensive at 80$ for water and electric only on a dirt pull through. The bathroom weren’t very clean either. Lots of full timers. The cheese factory was worth the stop and a great experience but this campground wasn’t the best for the price.
