Best RV Parks & Resorts near Wilmer, TX

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Northside RV Resort and Flying Dutchman RV Resort offer developed RV sites near Wilmer, Texas. Northside provides big-rig-friendly spaces with electric hookups, sanitary dump, and picnic tables in a gated community with 124 concrete sites. Flying Dutchman features 113 sites with full hookups including 50-amp and 30-amp electrical connections, water, and sewer. Sites at both parks accommodate larger vehicles, though some travelers note leveling challenges on certain pads. Additional nearby options include Plantation Place in Sunnyvale with trash service and sewer hookups. "The sites are large and easy to pull in and out. They don't have any extras like clubhouses so you can tell they don't cater to snowbirds."

Several parks in the area maintain seasonal availability year-round, with monthly rates available for extended stays. Plantation Place and Treetops RV Resort accept pets while enforcing standard pet policies. Full hookup sites typically include water, electric (both 30-amp and 50-amp options), and sewer connections. Many parks offer trash service and sanitary dump stations. Cellular coverage remains reliable throughout most of the area, making these parks suitable for remote workers. A reviewer noted: "We love this place. Clean. Quiet and well managed. The place is always immaculate. Friendly staff." When selecting a park, confirm bathroom and shower availability—a recent review of Plantation Place mentioned the absence of these facilities despite full RV hookups.

    The Retreat at Shady Creek

    Awesome RV resort in town

We normally don't do RV resorts, but this one is awesome. The sites are fairly spacious, especially compared to other RV resorts. Big rig friendly with many different style spots to choose from. We always choose the fence line back in sites, and they always come with plenty of grass to walk the dogs. The fence backs up to residential, but that doesn't bother us. Even the back in sites are plenty spacious for a big rig and your tow vehicle and another vehicle. The park is very roomy and easy to navigate and park.

The staff are always so nice and they make late check in a breeze, which we appreciate after a long, tiring day of towing. This RV resort is the only place we've ever stayed in that allows RV washing! For full-time RVers, that's pretty huge. They also have a mail room if you need to receive a package on the road.

The resort is split up into two areas by the road, the Retreat area is more resort like and caters to short term stays, while the other half has long term stays. They both look nice and are clean and beautiful. We will continue to visit every time we pass through the area.

    Lake Park Campground

    Nice Place

This place is well-maintained and a fairly nice park. Family friendly and there is a lake and playground within walking distance. The staff is courteous. We did not use any of the facilities, except dump station.

There are specific sites for 30 and 50. The middle spaces for 30 amp have no shade. For 50 amp avoid sites 59-63, 0 shade. There are no sewer hookups at the site. Only dumping station.

Reservations is done by calling the park, no online.

    Holiday Park Campground

Hard to Believe You’re Next to a Big City

When we got to Benbrook, we used the campground(CG) website instructions as we didn’t see any signage for the CG on US377 coming in from the east. We turned right onto Pearl Ranch Rd and followed it to the Holiday COE entrance about 2 miles straight down the road. Check in was easy and the guy who checked us in was very informative. We needed to fill our freshwater tank and he pointed out on the map the two dump stations with potable water. We proceeded to the dump station just inside the gate to find out there was not a potable water spigot just the usual rinse hose. We went back to the entrance and he informed us the park ranger had told him they are on well water and thus the water at the dump station was safe, even though there was a sign clearly stating it was not safe to drink. We were then told we could go to an empty camp site that had water hook-ups and fill up there, which we did. Not sure what we would have done if this had been a busy weekend with all of the water sites full. We then proceeded to pull through site 72 with 30/50 AMP. There was plenty of space for our 39’ fifth wheel and F-450 on the asphalt pad. The site had a covered cement patio with picnic table, and bbq/fire pit that we couldn't use due to a burn ban. Site 73 was the only other site in our little cul-de-sac. For the intent of this review, we toured the campground specifically looking for free standing water spigots, but didn't find any. The showers/restroom were old but in workable shape. If you want to stay where we did in sites 72-75 they were definitely electric only, contrary to what other reviews mentioned. There were water spigots at the sites but they had been capped off. Sites 76, 77,& 78 were also electric only and sat up on a hill with a slight lake view but are across the street from a neighborhood that backs up to the park. Sites 83- 93 had water and electric as well as some of the sites near the front of the park. We got 3 bars on Verizon and a whole bunch of OTA channels. We enjoyed the view of the lake and privacy at our site since we were the only ones there the whole time of our stay during the week.

    Traders Village RV Park

    Clean and big

We stayed 4 nights in site 24, PT FHU on a level concrete pad with a picnic table and plot of grass. $40/ni after Good Sam. The park is split into two sections; the side we are in is next to an airfield and the other side is by a small dog run (next time, I'll request this section bc I'm traveling with my dogs). They have a store and the laundry is clean and well priced ($1.25/wash, $0.25/12 min dry). The wifi is strong and the park is quiet. There are some long term, possibly permanent, tenants, but their sites are well kept.

    Lake Tawakoni State Park Campground

    Nice state park

We don't stay at too many TX State Parks because of the added day use fee. We decided on this park due to its proximity to family in this area. The site was level and on a concrete pad with a parking spot right next to it. We did have a neighbor, so the space between us was fair. Our cell signal with Verizon was poor, so it made work difficult. Our site had W/E and there is a dump station. We did have a picnic table and fire ring. There are some sites that back up to a part of the lake. Noise level was pretty low. Unfortunately, we only spent 1 full day here, so we didn't really get to enjoy any of the hiking trails or do any fishing. We will definitely have to stay again in the future.

Guide to Wilmer

RV campgrounds near Wilmer, Texas offer convenient access to Dallas while maintaining a more rural atmosphere. Located in Ellis County at an elevation of around 440 feet, Wilmer sits in the blackland prairie region characterized by flat to gently rolling terrain. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 95°F from June through September, with mild winters that rarely see extended freezing conditions, making year-round camping viable for most RV travelers.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Blue Sky Cedar Creek RV Park features a stocked fishing pond where campers can enjoy catch-and-release fishing without needing a license. "The amenities here are top-notch. Book now, enjoy with friends and family," notes a reviewer who appreciated the outdoor recreation options.

Explore flea markets: Traders Village hosts one of the region's largest flea markets every weekend. "Our 2nd visit and it is great, everything you need to live here on site... Not to mention, one of the biggest flee markets around and it's 2 days of walking and shopping," shares a camper who enjoyed the on-site shopping.

Sporting events access: Multiple RV parks serve as convenient bases for attending professional sports in Arlington. "Cowboys football and Rangers baseball only a few miles away, plus 6 Flags amusement park," notes a visitor to Treetops RV Resort, highlighting the advantage of staying near major attractions.

What campers like

Concrete pads: Northside RV Resort offers 124 concrete sites that remain level regardless of weather conditions. "Nice hard sites all with 20/30/50a, cable TV, and full hookups," explains one camper, appreciating the stable setup areas that don't become muddy after rain.

Security features: Gated access provides peace of mind at several Wilmer-area campgrounds. "The park was very clean with four bathroom/shower rooms and laundry room as well. We visited in November and it was quiet with a nice view of the water. The park also has a gate with a code needed to enter," notes a visitor to Northside RV Resort.

Tree coverage: Treetops RV Resort stands out for its abundant shade trees, unusual in this region. "Our spot was very well shaded, the only thing is our trailer was level but we felt like we were leaning back," shares one camper. Another adds, "Lots of shade, and the trees were trimmed with plenty of room."

What you should know

Bathroom availability varies: Not all RV parks provide shower or restroom facilities despite offering full hookups. "WARNING: NO BATHROOMS, NO SHOWERS. Quiet park with easy access to Dallas. Nice dog walking area and dog park. Full hookups," cautions a reviewer about Plantation Place.

Highway noise considerations: Several parks sit close to major highways, creating noise issues for light sleepers. "You're really close to I-20, you will hear the road noise. Only trucks are loud. (We did hear a blowout, scared me to death!)" explains a reviewer from Bluebonnet Ridge RV Park.

WiFi limitations: Many parks offer WiFi but restrict usage or provide insufficient bandwidth for streaming or remote work. "The WiFi, while available, is really slow. When you connect, they track usage by hardware MAC address. Use too much, you get blocked and have to ask to be allowed back on."

Tips for camping with families

Look for kid-friendly amenities: Some Wilmer-area RV campgrounds offer playgrounds and recreational facilities. "There is a nice little pond you can fish in, catch-and-release only, no license required. LOTS of room to walk the dog!" notes a camper at Bluebonnet Ridge RV Park, highlighting features that keep children engaged.

Pool availability: Canton I-20 RV Park maintains a clean swimming pool that's particularly valuable during hot Texas summers. "They've got a pool, showers, and restrooms that are clean and maintained, plus free laundry, which is a big bonus if you're staying long term," shares a recent visitor.

Consider seasonal timing: For outdoor activities with children, timing matters in this climate. "We stayed here in November so didn't have any bug problems," notes one camper at Northside RV Resort, suggesting off-peak months provide more comfortable conditions for family camping.

Tips from RVers

Levelness challenges: Some sites require additional adjustments despite appearing level. "We stayed in a pull thru super. Lots of shade, and the trees were trimmed with plenty of room," a camper at Treetops RV Resort shares, adding helpful context about site conditions.

Reservation policies: Chuck's RV Resort and other parks may have strict cancellation terms. "This is a newer RV 'resort' that is still growing. The pool isn't open yet but will be very nice when it is. The roads and pads are all concrete with full hookups," explains a visitor, suggesting checking amenity status before booking.

Cellular connectivity: Most RV campgrounds in the Wilmer area maintain strong cellular signals. "Internet is great, bathrooms are clean, staff is nice!" reports a reviewer at Northside RV Resort, confirming reliable connectivity for remote workers and digital nomads.
