    Airport Park - Waco Lake

    Airport Park COE, Lake Waco

Airport Park on Lake Waco, in Waco, TX. We really like this park. We were in site 27, which our camp side is shady during the afternoon and evening. Each site has a fire ring, bbq grill, & lantern post. The RV parking pad is asphalt and long. Big Rigs would have no problems here. When we arrived the gravel pad was raked all nice and neat. 50 amp sites are $26 a night. The loop we are in doesn't have the nice restrooms. We are in the loop that has sites 16 - 36. To me, these are the nicer RV sites, if only the restrooms were better. The other 2 loops have really nice restrooms, with private shower rooms. Site 24 looks to be the pick, as it has shade pretty much all day. We will definitely come back to this camp ground.

    Live Oak Ridge

    Excellent Restful Campground

Live Oak Ridge COE Campground is excellently maintain and is a very low-key, restful place to land.  Large sites with ample vehicle parking that offer substantial distance from the neighboring sites give room to bring multiple vehicles or a boat along with the RV.  The sites are well maintained by the hosts who are not obtrusive and just keep a low profile to ensure things are clean and go well. The restroom area is also clean and has showers and toilets. A better-than-typical playground is set in a great interior place for all to enjoy. Water access is through the boat ramp, so don't expect to launch from your RV site since they are elevated far above the water. We stayed in Site 7 (and later extended it to Site 6). Both were easy to back into and fairly level with nice concrete pads, grills, and wonderful covered picnic tables. Both had tree coverage on one side. There are nature trails across the main road and access to Belton and their small but awesome riverwalk area, historic Salado, Still Hollow Lake, the Belton dam (we could see the mural from both sites), Chalk Ridge Waterfalls and Temple, TX within a few minutes. This is a great landing spot for many nearby activities EXCELLENT National Park pricing for 50 amp and water hookups with dump site available.

Level asphalt site surrounded by crushed granite

    Grass neatly mowed throughout campground

Large aluminum picnic table that is moveable from site concrete pad

BBQ grill, metal fire pit and lantern pole

Night sky friendly. No street lights

    Flat Creek RV Resort

Ideal Country Setting Only A Few Miles From Waco

There is nothing I like more than finding a nice place to retreat from a city which allows the comfort of the outdoors and relaxation with the convenience of the neighboring city amenities. It is the perfect blend of both worlds.

This can be a bit difficult for a tent camper however, so again I was able to find an ideal location for my RVing friends at this site. Normally that would instantly lower my rating because I cannot personally utilize the location at this time without a rig, however this site was so impressive I couldn't steer away!

Pulling up to the park the gate is grand. The park itself sits a short 5 minutes away from the city on a quiet road. The park is expansive and the accommodations rest several hundred yards away from the traffic of the small country road. It is so peaceful!!

Sites seemed to be spread nicely to have the sense of community but not being to close to form crowding. Each space is separated by a grassy area which accommodates a picnic table and has enough room for a little stretching room.

When I visited all of the units there seemed to be very well maintained and even though they do have both overnight and long term stay options, nothing seemed to have the "moved in" look (no underpinnings, no long sewage hoses typical of long term parks).

I was very excited to see the large area for walking your dogs, area which allowed space to play and roam, a pond to fish in or to enjoy, a fire pit for community use and very nice shower and laundry facilities.

The roads around the park were wide and well maintained, the green spaces were manicured well and as I visited people were all very friendly. It made me want an RV just so I could visit!

    Tips:

    • To stay at this park make sure you make reservations ahead of time. While there is plenty of space, they do fill up and reservations will ensure your stay especially during the more populated seasons.

    • Take advantage of the free wifi when here, just pulling in I checked it out and noticed it was pretty decent from all areas of the park.

    • Bring your fishing poles! This park has a variety of fish in the stocked pond perfect for a relaxing day at the park.

    Meridian State Park Campground

    Meridian State Park

Wish they would change the name to Meridian State Park instead of just Meridian on here.  Very nice, small, peaceful park.  There are 8 pull thru sites with full hookups, including 50 amp.  We were in on site 6.  Fairly level, but not much room to put a rug out.  They had 5 big rocks out to keep people from parking to close to the site.  Very close to the bathroom and shower room.  Very clean.  Right next to Park Office.  Lake was only 5 minute walk or minute drive.  Excellent swimming area  with picnic tables and grills.  Did not get a chance to fish there but heard it is very good.  Very quiet park.

    Flat Creek RV Resort

A Nice Spot, Perfect Distance From Town

We stayed here long term for work, in our camper trailer. This is a great place, for long or short stays. All sorts of rigs, maybe not quite the place for tents. The owner is very kind. The property is well maintained. Gravel pads, with all the hook ups. It's great not having to move to drain the tanks. There is a community area called the scale house, indoor and outdoor chill spots to enjoy the scenery. A small shower/laundry house, and overflow parking for boats, extra vehicles, etc. The creek runs along side the campground, and herds of sheep roam across the creek with friendly and protective sheep dogs. You can fish in the creek and in the pond located within the sheep field. We really enjoyed this spot.

    Reynolds Creek

Needs improvement but a peaceful stay.

This park is located out in boonies and can be pretty difficult to find. Most people think they are lost trying to get to it, but if you follow North Speegleville road through all the cornfields you will eventually stumble upon it. Believe me, you're not going the wrong way.

Being lakefront property you would expect to see more water, however there is a lot of brush grown up around the lake and sites so it is hard to see. There are also limited places to get down to the water in the park.

There is a nice boat ramp and dock for fishing. It is also pet friendly and equestrian friendly. There is a nice little 1 mile hike were you can bird watch and view the lake Waco, it is very shaded and flat. Then there is a 20 mile hike/ equestrian trail that goes around Lacey point.

Bathrooms and showers need some work, but they do the job. There is no store at the campground, but there is a dollar general located in Speegleville about 4 minutes away. There are picnic tables at ever site along with a fire pit, and also a playground for kids.

The whole park is very secluded and away from street noise which is so lovely. Perfect place for viewing the stars over the water and listening to nature speak around you!

Guide to Waco

RV campgrounds near Waco, Texas offer diverse accommodations within a 30-mile radius of the city, situated at the confluence of the Bosque and Brazos Rivers. Most parks in this Central Texas region maintain year-round availability due to the moderate climate, though summer temperatures regularly exceed 95°F between June and September.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Thousand Trails Lake Whitney provides access to quality fishing spots. "I ended up catching 15 and could have caught more but it was getting dark," reports camper Tammie L., who enjoyed bank fishing for Sand Bass while they were schooling.

Hiking trails: Lake Whitney offers multiple walking paths through wooded areas. "They have a good hiking trail! I had to walk about 1/2 mile to get to the water," notes one visitor, though some campers mention that trail markings could be improved. Most trails are moderate difficulty with minimal elevation change.

Rural exploration: Flat Creek RV Resort provides a country setting with creek access approximately 15 minutes from downtown. "The creek runs along side the campground, and herds of sheep roam across the creek with friendly and protective sheep dogs," mentions reviewer Hope R., highlighting the working ranch atmosphere.

What campers like

Convenient breakfast services: Several Waco-area RV parks include morning meal options. "Breakfast is AWESOME! We payed more than if we woulda gone out because we were so impressed. But, it was technically free breakfast," writes Damon R. about Blue Sky I-35 RV Park, which offers made-to-order morning meals.

Clean facilities: Many campgrounds maintain well-kept bathroom buildings. "Bathrooms were nice, clean and air conditioned...definitely a couple of notches above the Texas State Parks," notes reviewer Chris K. about facilities at one location. Multiple parks provide private shower rooms with individual entrances.

Overnight accessibility: Late-arriving travelers can find accommodations in Waco. "They were the only park to take our late call to stop for the night and the night watchman was extremely helpful," reports Crystal L. about her experience at Blue Sky I-35 RV Park.

What you should know

Highway noise considerations: Many Waco RV parks sit near Interstate 35, creating noise challenges. "We keep a noise machine in our camper when traveling so the road noise was not a problem for us," mentions one camper, while another states, "Spent one week here and probably would not stay here again due the very loud traffic noises."

Site leveling requirements: North Crest RV Park features level pads according to multiple reviews. "Sites are level, wide, and even shaded. We arrived around 9pm and departed 10 hours later - so level we didn't even have to unhook," notes Tom H., highlighting convenience for overnight stays.

Shower facility distribution: At larger properties, bathroom buildings may be distant from some sites. "Bathhouse is clean and pretty new but there is one each Mens and women's bathroom and shower for a long thin park. From our site to the bathhouse was 3 tenths of a mile," reports George L. about one Waco-area campground.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activities: Thousand Trails properties typically schedule weekend events. "A lot of kids activities - water melon eating contest, face painting, etc.," notes reviewer Chris K., listing organized programs available during holiday weekends.

Swimming options: Whitney Rose RV Park includes water recreation facilities. "The amenities were excellent, including clean showers, reliable WiFi, and a fantastic dog park that our furry companion thoroughly enjoyed," writes KJ L. about their stay, mentioning multiple family-oriented features.

Site selection for groups: Most Waco RV parks operate on first-come, first-served basis for specific site assignments. "We were kind of disappointed our group of 4 campers couldn't get spots together," explains Mollee C., indicating the need to arrive simultaneously with traveling companions.

Tips from RVers

Site width variations: Clifton RV Park provides varying site dimensions. "Some sites have enormous amounts of space, while some are close so if you are a group, choose the closes sites," advises James G., noting the layout differences within the property.

Covered parking options: Some Waco RV campgrounds provide overhead protection. "This park sports an 'old side' and 'new side'. It offers covered sites (extra cost)," explains Bobbie S. about their experience at one local facility, mentioning the premium option available for additional fee.

Arrival timing: Daylight arrivals simplify site selection. "Love the location, so close to Dallas! This park is so quite and very dark at night! I loved that about this park, glad I arrived during the daylight it would be very difficult to find an RV spot at night!" advises Tammie L., emphasizing navigation challenges after sunset.
