Seasonal considerations affect camping experiences significantly in this area. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F, making lakeside locations particularly desirable for swimming and water recreation. As one visitor noted, "Lake Bridgeport is as good a lake as you'll find in north Texas for boating, swimming, canoeing or setting up camp." Winter brings milder conditions suitable for year-round camping at most established sites. Burn bans frequently occur during dry periods, particularly in late summer and fall. Cell service varies considerably, with stronger signals at developed campgrounds near Bridgeport proper and limited connectivity in the grasslands. Campers should check ahead for reservation requirements, as holiday weekends often fill completely.

Lakeside camping receives consistently high ratings from visitors, with many sites offering direct water access. The campgrounds around Lake Bridgeport provide varying levels of amenities, from primitive sites to full-service RV parks with 50-amp hookups. A reviewer mentioned that "many of the campsite locations are elevated and look over the lake," creating scenic views from numerous sites. Wildlife sightings are common, particularly in the grasslands where cattle occasionally share the public lands. First-time visitors should note that some campgrounds, particularly Thousand Trails Bay Landing, can be "very dark at night" with poorly marked sites, making daytime arrival advisable. Weekend crowds are common during summer months, especially at swimming areas and boat ramps.

    The Vineyards

    A must stay!!!

In a very nice campground with spacious FHU sites that are concrete pads and level. Great views of the lake. A well equipped campground store with lots of items. Clean large bathrooms and showers as well as a laundry room. Have events throughout the week for social activities for adults and kids. Great hosts and a very well kept campground. Definitely a place to stay overnight or a week.

    Lake Park Campground

    Quiet and Peaceful

Check in was simple. Kasey and Shane are wonderful. Convenient to the lake. Easy access to stores and I 35. There is a parking lot for your boat or jet skis within the campground. The sites for 30 amp and smaller campers are closer to the water. 50 amp and larger campers are in the shade. I am not certain of fees for park entry. Website says that day use area is included in the amenities, but had to pay the entry fee yesterday.

    Hunter Park

I had a great time here

Hunter Park in Texas is truly a great destination for those who love camping. I had the opportunity to experience and feel the fresh air and peace here. Although the terrain is relatively flat and the trees are sparse, the closeness to nature made me feel relaxed. The weather can change quite dramatically, so I recommend being well prepared. A big plus is its proximity to Dinosaur Valley State Park and Lake Granbury, where you can enjoy activities like hiking and boating. Hunter Park is truly the perfect place for those looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of life!

    Hunter Park

    Peaceful

It’s a pretty awesome place to camp and it’s really quiet. There are restrooms but no water or electricity but they are really good at maintaining the restrooms (stocked with toilet paper and keeping it clean) they are particular about you only staying 10 days so just be mindful of that.

Lyndon B. Johnson National Grassland Dispersed Camping

    Worked Well for Overnight

Was transiting between central Texas toward Colorado in an off-grid TT and didn’t want to venture far off 287 for a comfortable, quiet & safe place to stay for the night. Taking the Trinity exit north off the loop around Decatur and using the navigation to the LBJ Grasslands to Park Rd 904 access was easy (& scenic). Once inside you could tell there’d been recent rain but the wet areas were easily avoided. Sites are spacious and we soon found a pretty great vista view from which the spectacular sunset was just a great bonus. Will make a note to use this stop en route out of the central part of the state going west for future trips.

    Pilot Knoll Park Campground

Lake Front Camping close to Dallas

Lots of large back in spots with 50/30 amp plugs, water hook ups, fire pit and picnic table. Many spots are have direct access to the lake to launch a kayak or SUP, boat launch in the day use area. Clean, online reservations takes a little bit of navigating, I had to sign up for an account. Lloyd of tall trees provide shade. Paid $30 per night for mid week in June.
