    Laid back

If you like a laid back approach to camping, this place is it.  They advertise "farm fresh eggs" at the bait shop, and though we didn't partake, we know they were serious because of the chickens that were roaming the grounds.  One of them inspected the storage bay of my travel trailer while I was setting up!  We arrived about 4 p.m., and there was no one around to check in with, I think because of a family emergency of some sort.  So I just picked one of the open RV lots and backed in.  When I did check in later with Amy, she said "no problem" with the lot I picked.  Like I say, "laid back"!

    Big spots and clean bathhouses

Two last nights we got here all the way from Carlsbad Canyon at 9 pm ,park closes at 10 pm. It was a long drive to get there and when son showed us out in the lake , what it looked like then we shaked heads and said are You sure ? It had rained a lot before we got there and the lake was floating over the road by the dam drive over,it was rather scary .

Lots of trails to walk in area, but because of this massive rain its not possible to walk over by the dam, just to be aware if it.

We got lots of sun next day and had a good time walking around at the campground, we took a tour into town ,nice little town to walk around in some intersting stores there.

We saw lots of birds and turtels in the lake.

We had a lakeview from the oppsite of the road.

    Needs some work

Generally I’ll stay at a KOA for a night when traveling through. They are like McDonald’s, nothing special but you know what to expect. This one was below par even for a KOA. We arrived just at 5:00 pm but the office was already closed. Didn’t see any staff before we left in the morning. Out checking information was available on the bulletin board. A sign said there were no more available sites, but there were clearly over 40 empty spaces. Many of the sites need new picnic tables, and the trees are full of dead branches. However the grass was mowed. Sites are very close together. Closer than most. There is a grassy dog park. There is also the a playground- a swing set! Also a pool which appears functional. Bathroom and showers were adequate. !

There is an RV repair facility next door.
