Canal Fulton Canoe Livery & Campground

    Great location, laking facilities

The campground runs along 100 yards or so of the tuscarawas River. Sandwiches by a railroad, and walking path. They allow you to drive to your spot to pack/unpack, but have to park in the lot. While the campsites are scenic and what you expect... the washroom, especially the shower are pretty lacking. There's a nice covered picnic area with grills available with your own gas. And a small (toddler) kids area. All in all, a great cheap spot for a quick stay.

We stayed mid September and there was live music walking distance every night, a cute ice cream shop a short walk over the bridge, and a nice playground on the other side of the river that was also an easy walk.

I didnt partake in the canoes... but they do a river clean up monthly and really seem to enjoy what they do.

All in all a great cheap spot for a quick stay.

    East Harbor State Park Campground

    Beautiful but Buzzy

I booked one night here for the amenities on a cross-country trip.

The laundry, showers, and water fill stations were convenient/ well-maintained.

    I gave only 4-star however 2 reasons.

    1. for the 5hr lawn mowing caravan that started at 7am in every direction. I’m not even sure what they were mowing since the lawns looked freshly cut. It was obnoxious! And
    2. not enough signage. For example, I had to ask for directions to the laundry rooms and then they are quarter only with no change machine. I had to make a trip back to the office for change.

Overall, a nice spot with all the amenities you could need. Plenty of room and nice multi-use trail to the beach was great!

    East Harbor State Park Campground

    Nice park

Stayed 2 nights. The bathrooms are decent, laundry facility is good and the sites are a good size. There are trails and beaches in the park. I found a disc golf course in the park, and I really enjoyed the layout’s layout. The main issue is the mosquitoes, on every tee pad I was swarmed by at least 50 mosquitoes. It was by far the most mosquitoes I’ve ever seen in one area. I was warned, so I sprayed before going. It helped, but they still buzzed around your head.

Guide to Avon Lake

Camping options near Avon Lake, Ohio extend beyond established campgrounds to include lakefront access points and lesser-known recreational areas. The region sits along Lake Erie's southern shore at approximately 620 feet above sea level, experiencing summer temperatures that typically peak in July with averages around 82°F. Winter camping opportunities remain limited due to lake effect snow patterns that can create unpredictable conditions from November through March.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: American Wilderness Campground offers a stocked lake popular with campers. "We love the fishing available here we also had the kids they enjoyed the arcade and gem mining we also liked the access to self serve laundry and camp store as well," reports Jessica J., highlighting multiple activities in one location.

Trail exploration: Findley State Park provides extensive hiking networks through wooded terrain. "Wonderful state park with lots of trails and a lake. Took the kayaks out on the lake and had a great time," notes Linda R. The park maintains over 10 miles of hiking trails with varying difficulty levels.

Water recreation: Paddle sports are available at multiple locations with equipment rentals. "The park has nice trails and a lake with a beach for swimming. It can get fairly crowded if you are here with a trailer that requires electrical hookups," explains Greg A., pointing out potential site limitations during peak season.

What campers like

Evening entertainment: Saturday night performances at Willow Lake Park provide regular social activities. "They offer plenty of activities for everyone. Had a band each night! Bad Juju was definitely a favorite of mine," mentions Ivory L., describing the lively weekend atmosphere that contrasts with quieter weekday periods.

Clean facilities: Restroom maintenance varies by location but receives frequent mention in reviews. "Shower houses are clean. Canoes and kayaks are available for renting. Many musicians set up camp and would jam out for some live evening music," shares Kimberly C., noting both the amenities and spontaneous entertainment.

Fishing ponds: Dedicated fishing areas separate from swimming zones appear at multiple campgrounds. "We had a pretty sight by the pond. The park seemed to be mostly seasonal campers," reports Stacy E., indicating the mix of short-term and permanent campers at Timber Ridge Campgrounds.

What you should know

Seasonal operations: Most campgrounds close during winter months with limited exceptions. "Pulled in around midnight on a Wednesday and there were just two other vans parked overnight. Plenty of space if you just need to crash," explains Frank G. about Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds, one of the few areas allowing overnight parking year-round.

Water quality concerns: Several campers mention water odor issues at certain locations. "The water, while I'm sure was fine, had an odor to it so I didn't partake," notes Wilson W. about Willow Lake Park, suggesting visitors may want to bring drinking water.

Reservation requirements: Summer weekends require advance booking, often 3-6 months ahead. "Very nice, comfortable campground, kids loved it. Only downfall is trying to find an open spot for reservations. Place is booked most of the time," warns Jeffrey L., explaining that holiday weekends need booking up to 6 months in advance.

Tips for camping with families

Indoor pool access: Temperature-controlled swimming provides options during cooler weather. "We stayed at Timber Ridge for a month and found this to be a very nice campground. Stores are very level, full hookups, fishing pond, amazing indoor swimming pool," recommends The Wandering Shores about Timber Ridge Campgrounds.

Arcade activities: Gaming options for children exist at several locations. "We had a good time taking the kids to the arcade," mentions Luis G. about American Wilderness Campground, where the arcade operates seasonally from late spring through early fall.

Playground proximity: Site selection near play areas benefits families with young children. "Nice clean campground with lots of activities and also amenities the bathrooms and shower house were clean as well felt so comfortable made lots of friends," reports John C., describing both the facilities and social atmosphere.

Tips from RVers

Gas and convenience items are extra helpful. Safe environment to snooze overnight," explains Susan B. about the Vermilion Valley location, noting the basic but functional amenities.

Cash payment requirements: Some campgrounds operate on cash-only systems. "Hit up the ATM prior to arriving, as this park is cash/check only. It's gorgeous with super large sites," advises Sarah A. about Timber Ridge Campgrounds, highlighting both the payment limitation and spacious accommodations.

Hookup variations: Electrical options range from 30 to 50 amp service with varying water access. "It's nice for what it is. You can walk into the service plaza which has vending, showers, laundry.
