    Oasis RV Resort and Cottages

    Clean and easy

We ended up in a huge site in the outside edge of campground so no one on either side. Traffic noise is a little loud.

    Sundance RV Park

    Super Nice

The park is very clean, well maintained and quiet. The pull through we had was very wide. Laundry and bath house super clean and nice. Very nice dog park area. Really enjoyed it. Only issue was we arrived at 1230 so they charge me an early arrival fee of $5.00. It’s not about the five bucks, just the thought about 30 minutes. Oh well, I would stay again but make sure I show up at 1pm 😊u

    Bay City Campground

    Perfect for what I needed

The road starts our residential and then eventually becomes unpaved but quite nice. I’m in a Corolla and had no problems. I was surprised that I was able to roll up at dusk and get a spot no problem - there seem to have a handful of pullouts here (with fire rings!). Maybe because it was mid week after elk season closed. The creek adds lovely background noise. Service is good enough you can text your family you made it without issue, but photos will be slow to send (Verizon).

    Fossett Gulch Rd Dispersed

    My kind of disperse camping

Camped in a pull over on the forest Road about a mile up from the suggested disperse camping spot. Loved it

    Capote Campground

    CLEAN AND SERENE

We found Capote on the fly, while leaving West Fork Campground.

Turned out to be a beautiful site, spacious, needled sites, surrounded by lodge pole pines.

There are many comfortable tents sites, and water and power hookups at several RV sites.

There's also a shower house with a dump and fill station nearby for getting back on the road again!

Morefield Campground — Mesa Verde National Park

    Big but spread out

Deer walking around on the campsite is always nice. It is a big campsite but very spread out. Showers and laundry were a bit far to walk, so we drove there. Toilets near every site.

    Durfield BLM Boondocking

    Dispersed right off HWY160

Good Verizon coverage, plenty of camp spots, was a bit surprised to see how busy it was

San Juan McGee Park RV Camping

    Awesome stopover location

We didn’t expect much but, were very pleasantly surprised. After 3 hours of fighting a crosswind, we needed a break. Checking in was super simple and the location is clean and well laid out. They also provide showers and toilet facilities a short walk away. There isn’t much shade available. Easy access from hwy 64 right between Bloomfield and Farmington. We will definitely be using this a layover in the future.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does camping in Aztec compare to staying in local hotels?

Camping near Aztec offers unique experiences and connections with nature that hotels simply can't match. At Rosa Campground — Navajo State Park, you'll enjoy expansive lake views and access to water activities like fishing tournaments and boating – experiences no hotel room can provide. Similarly, Bisti / De-Na-Zin Wilderness Area offers magical landscapes and stargazing opportunities far from city lights. While hotels provide consistent amenities and protection from weather, they lack the immersive natural experience. Camping is typically more affordable than hotels, especially at public campgrounds. For spectacular views, Angel Peak Scenic View Campground offers dramatic cliff-side camping resembling a miniature Grand Canyon with stunning sunrise and sunset views. Nature enthusiasts should consider Navajo Lake State Park, which features multiple campgrounds around a large lake with beautiful views, though sites can be close together and sometimes uneven. For a more adventurous experience, dispersed camping at Alien Run Trailhead Basecamp provides a secluded overnight option, though the access road can be rough.
