Best Campgrounds near Bloomfield, NM

The high desert region around Bloomfield, New Mexico features several established campgrounds and dispersed camping areas along canyon rims and badlands. Angel Peak Scenic View Campground offers nine tent sites with picnic tables, fire rings, and vault toilets approximately 15 miles south of Bloomfield via County Road 7175. Nearby, Angel Peak NM Badlands provides free dispersed camping with panoramic views of the New Mexico Badlands. Other options include Moore's RV Park & Campground with full hookup sites and cabin accommodations, and Brown Springs Campground with more primitive facilities managed by the Bureau of Land Management.

Rough gravel roads lead to many camping areas, particularly at Angel Peak where a 6-mile gravel road follows the canyon rim. Visitors should prepare for limited or no services at most locations, as potable water is unavailable at many sites. Weather conditions can affect accessibility, especially during monsoon season when dirt roads may become impassable. Cell service varies by location but is generally reliable at Angel Peak and nearby campgrounds. Camping limits typically follow BLM or state park guidelines, with 14-day stay limits common on public lands. "Just arrived at Angel Peak dispersed campground near Bloomfield NM. The gravel road from HWY 550 is in good shape. This is completely dry camping. No potable water nor electricity. However, each site has a fire ring, picnic table and shade shelter," noted one visitor.

Campers consistently praise the spectacular views at Angel Peak, where sites are positioned along canyon rims overlooking badlands formations. The area's location away from major population centers provides relatively uncrowded camping experiences even during peak seasons. One reviewer described Angel Peak as having "amazing views, hiking trails, unreal sunsets and super peaceful nights." Developed campgrounds in the region, including those at Navajo Lake State Park, provide amenities like showers and electric hookups but tend to have sites closer together. Travelers seeking solitude often prefer the dispersed camping options where natural features and scenic vistas compensate for the lack of facilities. Proximity to attractions such as Bisti Badlands makes the Bloomfield area popular with travelers exploring northwestern New Mexico's geological features.

Morefield Campground — Mesa Verde National Park

    Great Campground/Location

Had a great couple days here. Lots of sites. Campground loops have flush toilets and water, as well as WiFi modems. There are central free showers and coin-operated laundry. There are several shops and restaurants throughout the park. Great historical sites! The campground has lots of mule deer roaming thru in the morning and evening. Many sites do not have much shade.

Ancient Cedars Mesa Verde RV Park

    Convenient to National Park

This is a nice park. A little dated. The pull through spaced had 30/50 amp hook ups. Water and sewer. Our 41’ Montana’s 5 slides fit but the spaces (and trees) prevented us from opening our awning. The picnic table and fire pit were adequate but no open burning was permitted during our stay due to fire conditions . We didn’t use either showers or laundry. We had a problem with our truck and the manager was able to extend our stay by a day on short notice — also recommended a local diesel shop in Cortez. Great view of the Mesa and noise from the highway was not too bad. We would stay here again if in the area.

San Juan McGee Park RV Camping

Fair ground camping next to a river and pond

Reasonable price for a stop over. Not many people here. I am camped between a pond and a river. Otherwise it is a gravel parking lot.

    Target Tree Campground

Target tree is an awesome campground at the southwestern edge of the rockies about 25 miles south of Durango

Target Tree has awesome campsites. It sits between Mesa Verde and Durango and is a perfect launch for this area. All kinds of activities are nearby. Spectacular Colorado mountains and scenery. Silverton and the Million Dollar Highway are nearby if you dare. Fishing everywhere, hiking trails, wildlife, and cool weather.

Durango has a lot of campgrounds nearby, but they aren't really RV oriented. Target Tree is an excellent RV campground with large sites and plenty of room. The camp host is great, friendly, and helpful.

    Alpen Rose RV Park

    Excellent Park

As far as RV parks go, this park is well maintained and well managed! We stayed winter of 24/25 and will be back 25/26. The sites are super easy to navigate. This park has million dollar views of the Durango mountains and is just far enough out to get away but close enough for the convenience of "city living" the dog park is MASSIVE and the entire campground is meticulously maintained. CJ, Lindsay, and the staff are very friendly and helpful!

    Moore's RV Park & Campground

    Nice shady patk

We enjoyed our 1 week stay here. The crushed stone sites were spacious & level. There was no lawn, but, that's not to be expected in high desert New Mexico. But, a lot of the sites(ours included) had very nice shade trees. A lot rv parks in the southwest there is zero shade. The trees a definite plus!!!. We enjoyed their nice pool which was cool and refreshing. Sierra, the host/manager was kind, helpful and very pleasant. Also, looks like they are in the middle of an expansion project. I would definitely stay here again.
