About three miles down a dirt road from Farmington, Brown Springs Campground sits on open BLM terrain dotted with juniper and sagebrush among rolling high desert hills. The gravel road requires careful navigation through several washes but remains accessible to most RVs, including large rigs up to 39 feet.
Ten spacious back-in sites spread across the campground, each featuring a concrete pad, covered picnic table, fire ring, and grill. Site spacing provides privacy without isolation, and the gravel surfaces eliminate concerns about mud or uneven tent placement. One ADA-accessible site accommodates campers with mobility needs. The vault toilet stays reasonably clean, though campers should bring their own toilet paper.
OHV enthusiasts use Brown Springs as a staging area for the extensive trail network radiating from the campground. "Surrounded by trails and unique terrain," notes MATTHEW R.. Mountain biking trails also wind through the area. Cell service reaches four bars with AT&T, making this a viable spot for remote work or staying connected.
Road conditions vary significantly with weather. Multiple campers emphasize the dirt access road becomes impassable when wet or muddy. Permits require advance planning through the BLM Farmington office or by emailing a completed form. No water is available on-site, but the Sinclair station in town provides propane, dump services, and fresh water at no charge.
Plan visits during dry weather periods and secure permits before heading out to avoid disappointment.
