What to do
Kayaking access points: At Goshen Pond Campground, watercraft enthusiasts can launch directly from their sites. "Our site was right next to the Mullica River, and had excellent views if you walked just a couple steps from the tent. We were able to put our kayaks in right next to the site which was very convenient," notes Anna D. The campground sits just "a 5 minute drive from Atsion lake, a great place for kayaking and swimming."
Trail exploration: The extensive network at French Creek State Park Campground offers varied terrain for hikers of all levels. "There are 3.5 miles of trails to explore. On the amenities front, in addition to hiking trails, there's designated biking areas, disc golf course, hawk watching deck, sledding area and cross-country skiing trails," shares a visitor. Another camper adds, "There really is something for everyone here and if you can't find it you aren't looking very hard."
Bird watching opportunities: The region attracts diverse avian species throughout the year. One visitor to Fort Washington State Park notes, "You'll be particularly interested as from this very spot you can view the beautiful raptors that migrate here on a seasonal basis in both the Spring and Autumn, wherein you can view their splendor from the wonderfully built Observation Deck." Species include "Dark-eyed Junco, Common Loon, Blue Heron, Osprey, Cooper's Hawk, Bald Eagles, Great Horned & Barn Owls" among many others.
What campers like
Waterfront camping spots: Hospitality Creek Campground offers premium sites with direct water access. "Our lakefront site(#57) had full hookups and everything worked fine. The site was a good size, covered in heavy mulch, and is level. The photos of the lake were taken from our site to show this really is waterfront," shares Matt S. Another camper simply states, "We love the lake side campsites."
Private, wooded sites: Many campers appreciate the natural separation between sites at certain campgrounds. At French Creek State Park, "As long as you don't stay right across from the bath houses you will find ample shade at your site. There are so many trees and brush in between most sites you can't even really see your neighbors," reports Jen R. Similarly at Atsion Family Camp, a reviewer notes, "While we were surrounded by other campers, we enjoyed how private it was!"
Varied accommodation options: Philadelphia South/Clarksboro KOA provides multiple lodging styles. "My husband and I stayed for a week in one of the glamping tents. The staff was very friendly and the tents were more glamorous than we had tried before, but definitely had a good combination of woodsy and comfort," shares Jaquiline D. Another camper mentions staying "in a cabin for my MTB race weekend" and found "good looking tent sites" as well.
