Best Campgrounds near Aurora, MO

Campgrounds surrounding Aurora, Missouri range from established sites with full hookups to more rustic options along regional waterways. The area includes several developed facilities such as Springfield Route 66 KOA, Cape Fair, and Hootentown Canoe Rental & Campground, which accommodate tent and RV camping. Table Rock State Park Campground, located approximately 70 miles south of Aurora, offers year-round camping with both tent and RV sites, plus glamping options including yurts. The James River and Table Rock Lake provide water-oriented camping experiences, with many campgrounds situated along their shores for easy access to fishing, swimming, and boating activities.

Seasonal considerations affect campground availability throughout the region, with some facilities like Cape Fair operating only from April through October. Most established campgrounds near Aurora feature electric hookups, picnic tables, and fire rings, though amenities vary significantly between locations. Many campgrounds maintain shower facilities and restrooms, though cleanliness and maintenance levels differ. Water levels on rivers and lakes can impact site accessibility, particularly after heavy rainfall periods. Reservations are strongly recommended during summer months and holiday weekends when waterfront sites fill quickly. A visitor noted, "Sites are paved and level, raised above the lake. Gorgeous views and water accessible from our spot."

Waterfront access remains the most sought-after feature at campgrounds near Aurora, with sites along Table Rock Lake and the James River receiving consistently positive reviews. Campers report excellent fishing opportunities, particularly at Cape Fair, which sits where the James River flows into Table Rock Lake. Several visitors mentioned clean facilities at Corps of Engineers campgrounds, with Cape Fair's shower houses described as "very nice and clean" by multiple reviewers. While some campgrounds like Hootentown offer convenience with on-site stores selling camping supplies and floating equipment, others have been criticized for overcrowding during peak seasons. Family-friendly swimming areas exist at several locations, though proximity to water can mean higher humidity and occasional flooding concerns during heavy rain periods.

    Bentonville Bike Camp

Great place to explore Bentonville and amazing biking trails

Great private small business! Owners Julie & Jason very easy to communicate with. Campspot registration went smoothly. While we enjoyed Dry Camping meadow, they have a few basic cabins, and several electric sites. If you enjoy supporting a small family business and basic accommodations this place is for you!

    Pleasant Hope Conservation

    A Place to Rest

A gravel parking lot at a conservation area. The parking lot is large enough for 3-4 vans. Not very level. I had two bars of Verizon signal.

Port Of Kimberling Resort & Campground

    Beautiful campground

Lake views, a spacious site, wildlife, and trees. The price wasn't too bad, but a bit more than we typically like to spend.

Beaver Dam Dive Shop and Resort

    Great optiion

Great campground with good staff. Some of the parking spots can be hard to pull into is you are in a mega sized rig amd dont know how to drive your set up. Its home for lots of scuba divers. Get to know them! Everyone is super friendly. Chickens ranging free on the property. Fresh eggs for sale. If you are the person who wants perfectly flat pads and want the Koa campground mega camper vibe this is not your spot. If you want to have a great campground with incredible sunset views stop on by. I recommend the concrete slab across from the dive shop. Grab your favorite drink from the dive shop. And make great memories! And get to know your fellow travelers.

    Table Rock State Park Campground

    Great spot!

We had the perfect little spot for our tent camping weekend. It is a campground so you do have neighbors but the sites were spread out and didn’t feel cramped. There was ample room for our tent, the fire ring, our hammock set up and the picnic table. Restrooms were the cleanest i’ve ever seen. I will definitely be back!
