Best RV Parks & Resorts near Harris, MN

Harris-area RV parks provide year-round access to full-service motorhome sites, with several established options along Highway 70. Country Camping RV Park operates from May through October with 50-amp electric hookups, water, and sewer connections on level pads suitable for larger rigs. Wildwood RV Park & Campground offers 135 sites with both 30 and 50-amp service across multiple camping loops, accommodating fifth wheels and travel trailers with pull-through access. Grand Casino RV Resort maintains year-round operations with full hookup sites, though the campground layout presents challenges for larger motorhomes. "The designers of this park have clearly never spent a night in an RV. Virtually every site is a blind back-in from the driver seat, and the sewer connections are cut off about 12 inches above ground, making drainage difficult," notes one experienced RVer.

Advance reservations are strongly recommended throughout summer months when weekend occupancy reaches capacity at most parks. Access roads to the campgrounds are generally well-maintained gravel or paved surfaces, though seasonal weather conditions may affect travel. Most facilities provide sanitary dump stations, on-site trash collection, and potable water. Cell service varies significantly between locations, with spotty coverage reported at campgrounds further from Interstate 35. Pet-friendly policies exist at most RV parks, with designated dog areas available at Banning RV Park, which one guest described as "not just some small dog area but a top-of-the-line dog park." Winter camping options remain limited to Grand Casino RV Resort, where heated facilities and plowed access roads accommodate cold-weather travelers.

    Ham Lake Resort

Well Rounded RV Park and Campground

My partner and I scheduled a 3 day / 2 night stay in a new Vintage Cruiser RV for $39.99, in exchange for attending a presentation on private membership.

We checked in Wednesday evening, and the nicest staff I've ever met helped us acclimate to RV living. We are new to this game. They patiently described how to utilize the grey and black water tanks, as well as encouraged us to check-out the canoes, row boats, bikes, horseshoes, ladder golf and many other entertainment items - for FREE!

The map provided was accurate which made locating the cruiser a breeze. There were further instructions inside as well. The RV was immaculate. Provided for our use were all linens (a public very clean bath and shower was just across the road), dish soap, dish towels, paper towels, flat wear, plates, bowls, mugs and pans.

The campground has a couple of ponds, as well as access to Ham Lake where the watercraft is launched. There is a petting arena with goats, ponies, and a llama who gave my partner the stink eye, but fell in love with me rubbing the fence and giving me all googly eyes!

The clubhouse sells bundled wood, ice, snacks, cold drinks, ice cream and provides 24-hour fresh coffee. There is also a small resupply area, and gift shop.

There are pull-through sites, back ups, 50 and 30 amp hook ups, and tent sites, covered pavilions, picnic tables and fire pits.

The campground itself seems remote, secluded and peaceful, however, you are conveniently located to two well-stocked convenience stores, as well as Wal-Mart about 15 minutes away. It's also only about 45 minutes from the Minnesota Twin Cities.

One note: We visited in August and needed gallons of bug spray.

We very much enjoyed our get away!

    Grand Casino RV Resort

Park’s designers hav never been in an RV

The designers of this park have clearly never spent a night in an RV. This place pushes all of my buttons for things not to do when building an RV park.

Virtually every site in the park is a blind back in from the driver seat. You’re trying to back your trailer into a site on the right side without being able to see anything over there. Additionally, the site number pedestals for each site are right against the corner of the driveway where you have to back around them without being able to see them. Number pedestals for all sites are also right against the road, limiting the amount that you can swing your tow vehicle to the opposite side of the road to back into the site.  I will guarantee that not one person on the design team has ever backed, a travel trailer or fifth wheel into an RV site. The owners should have checked the credentials of the designers they hired. If they did, they were lied to. If they didn’t, then they just didn’t care about their customers.

Finally, one of my all-time favorites, all of the sewer connections are cut off about 12 inches above the ground. This means that even in a relatively tall fifth wheel, you are going to be trying to make shit filled water flow uphill. These things need to be cut off just an inch or two above the ground level  so that your sewage can flow downhill.

If you were here to spend an evening gambling at the casino, the place is roomy and well maintained. If you just want to spend the night, and not spend half of it trying to get into your site and set up, there’s got to be someplace close that would be better to go. We won’t be back.

    Ann Lake

    Rustic & Family Friendly

This is a great little rustic campground within an hour's drive of the Twin Cities! It has several potable water sources throughout the campground, but no running water for toilets or showers. There are several vault toilets. Each campsite has a picnic table and a fire ring. You can buy firewood & ice at the Sand Dunes Stop gas station, just a 10 minutes drive away.

This is a first-come, first-served campground, so no reservations required. This does mean that there is a chance you won't be able to get a site, but I've only had that happen one time when I got there at 6pm on a Saturday. There are usually sites available.

I love going to this campground - it's family friendly, and there is a swimming beach a quick 3 minute drive away! The hiking trails aren't half bad, either! I love coming here to relax for a weekend, spend some time at the beach, and just enjoy nature. If you go in the early to mid summer, you'll also hear local whip-poor-wills serenade you to sleep.

Overall, 4 stars. The only downsides are no running water and no ice & firewood at the campground itself.

    Lake Elmo County Park Reserve

    Great for the kiddos

For a County Park, Lake Elmo has an impressive list of amenities. Before we even get to the campsite let's mention the filtered swimming pond. This man made pond is a sandy bottom and surrounded by a nice sand beach. Large built in umbrellas are available for sun coverage and there is a concession stand and bathrooms with showers. And yes, as I mentioned the water is filtered! No gross goose poop or green algae to deal with! Next to the swim pond is a giant playground with fun for the big and little kids. Other amenities include archery, horse trails, paved and grass trails, camper spots, rustic spots and hike in camping spots. In winter the xc ski trails are lit for evening skiing. Or let's be honest early afternoon. It is Minnesota and the suns down by 4 In the Winter! They also have a newer Nordic center that's open all year round and includes a locker room with showers. The hike in camp spot we chose was on a small lake so it had a nice breeze and made it easy to bring a kayak or paddleboard and hop right in. There is also a boat launch for your larger toys! The trails in the park are quite impressive for its size. We enjoyed a 5 mile loop off the Nordic center and right past the camp spot. A picnic table and fire pit as well as nice flat tent pad were provided. If you're coming in from out of town then you're just a 5 minute drive from Woodbury and all the amenities you'd ever need but the park feels miles away from it all.

    Pathfinder Village-St Croix

    Tall Tall Trees

Lots of tall evergreen trees (not sure of the specific species) here that you are nestled in. Have to know a seasonal site holder to camp here. Sites can be a little tricky backing into because of the trees, but ultimately they have enough space even for large rigs(there were three of us there: 2 5th wheels and one longer travel trailer). A picnic table and fire ring was provided at each site. Nice easy road to navigate getting into the campground. Close to Hinckley if you're looking for things to do!

    Father Hennepin State Park Campground

    Great getaway from the city

Right on Lake Mille Lacs, one of Minnesota’s largest. Walking distance from the bakery and bar! Newer, updated facilities. Boat access. Lake side sites (if you book early enough). You can hit Mille Lacs State Park if you want to knock them both out on one trip! This park seems to attract a lot of long term campers, as I’m sure it’s pretty reasonable to stay at the lake all summer. We went mid-July I think and the trees were literally raining caterpillars… it was tough to want to hang out in our tree canopy-covered site. Sooo.. we ventured outside of the park more at this one.

There was a festival going on in a town west of here that had a couple rides and a really fun patio bar. If you do decide to venture out at night, ask the bartender for the limo driver’s number; he’s the city’s “uber”!

    Minneapolis Northwest KOA

    Good Campground but Close Sites

Sites are close to each other, but easy access, clean grounds and facilities, friendly staff, and a K9 fenced area for a pet friendly campground.

    Banning State Park Campground

    Winter camping

This is a great place for winter camping! The campsites are large enough (despite the snow) to set up suitable winter tents, and each site has a picnic table and fire pit. In the park, there's a lot of ice climbing and cross country skiing. If you take a short walk from the main parking area towards the bathroom, and follow the trail alongside the bluff, you'll find awesome spots to climb and likely a lot of dedicated adventurers. Nearby the campsite you have a great water source, and a lot of peace and quiet at night despite being close to a residential area and town.

Guide to Harris

Camping options near Harris, Minnesota primarily cluster around natural waterways including the Rum River and Pokegama Lake. Summer temperatures typically range from 65-85°F with higher humidity levels from June through August. Several campgrounds remain accessible in winter months despite Minnesota's below-freezing temperatures, though facilities may operate with reduced amenities during the cold season.

What to do

River recreation opportunities: Country Camping Tent & RV Park on the Rum River offers multiple water activities with equipment rentals. "Large sites. Great tubing and canoeing," notes visitor Rory T., while another camper highlights the river's cleanliness: "Key thing is the river is very clean and sandy bottom."

Golf access: Campers staying at Pokegama Lake RV Park And Golf can enjoy on-site golfing with their RV stay. "They have golf, a pool, lake nearby, and seasonal camping," states Dan B. The course remains accessible throughout the camping season with seasonal rates varying by month.

Hiking and exploring: The proximity to Banning State Park provides hiking opportunities for campers staying at nearby facilities. "We discovered this campground while researching the area... If you are planning to explore the Kettle River and Banning State Park nearby, this is a good alternative to camping within the State Park itself," explains Janet R. about Banning RV Park and Campground.

What campers like

Spacious sites: Many Harris-area campgrounds feature larger-than-average camping spaces. At Country Camping RV Park, Tom D. appreciates the generous spacing: "Love this place. Close to the Twin Cities, right on the Rum River. Great tent sites right on the river." Another camper mentions, "We've stayed at Country Camping for years! Great variety of things to do for everyone."

Family-friendly amenities: Campgrounds in the area cater specifically to families with children. At Wildwood RV Park & Campground, one visitor reports: "The pool and playground were clean and nice. Our site had its own picnic table and firepit. The kids tried the bike trail that they could access right from the campground."

Pet accommodations: Several rv parks near Harris, Minnesota provide specialized facilities for pets. "We absolutely loved the dog park. It was not just some small dog area it was top of the line dog park," explains Matt P. about Banning RV Park and Campground, adding "people are great and very nice here, staff helpful as always, very relaxed place!"

What you should know

Water hookup configurations: Some campgrounds use shared water connections requiring additional equipment. One camper at Banning RV Park and Campground notes: "We were quick to learn that water hookups were shared with other sites and required 'y' connections at the spigots. Our host(s) were prepared with the connectors in hand but seemed a bit surprised that we might need them."

Internet connectivity limitations: Cellular service varies significantly across Harris campground locations. At Wildwood RV Park & Campground, one visitor reports: "Sadly I needed 4 hours of internet and my cellular data here was spotty. I spent this time right outside the office." Most campgrounds offer WiFi only near main buildings or in specific coverage zones.

Seasonal population changes: Many campgrounds host primarily seasonal campers during peak months. At Fiddlestix RV and Golf Resort, a visitor observed: "They have expanded their dog park that's up near the clubhouse, basketball court, and playground, but the dog area was not very convenient to the backside of the CG now that there are about 142 sites plus cabins/trailer park models available."

Tips for camping with families

Water play options: Swimming facilities provide alternatives to lake swimming. At Country Camping Tent & RV Park, one family noted: "I stayed here 3 weeks ago with my wife and 2 young children and it was fantastic great playground and heated pool the spaces were well kept and spaced apart 10-10 would most defiantly go again! A ton for the kids to do!"

Nearby attractions: Regional sites provide day trip options from Harris area RV parks. "Fantastic clean campground with a ton of things to do at the campground and in the local area. The paddlewheel boat ride on the St Croix River was amazing. We even saw bald eagles on the ride," reports Amy F. about activities from Wildwood RV Park.

Multiple accommodation options: Some campgrounds offer various lodging styles beyond RV sites. Carol H. at Country Camping RV Park explains: "We've stayed at Country Camping for years! Great variety of things to do for everyone. Group sites, tent sites, covered wagon sites! Floating on the Rum River, swimming pool with splash pad, little camp store, Golf cart rentals! Our grandkids love it too!"

Tips from RVers

Site selection considerations: Several RiversEdge RV Park campers mention the importance of site location. "Large wooded lots, most facing the river or wildlife pond. Full hook-ups, with 30 or 50 amp service. Concrete Patios on every lot," notes one visitor describing the layout advantages.

Leveling challenges: Terrain varies significantly between Harris-area campgrounds. "Our sites were grass that was a little long and rutted from what seemed from previous tenants. This made getting leveling a little difficult and out fold out stairs touched the ground before fully being deployed," reports Sam C. about their experience at Banning RV Park.

Back-in configurations: RV parks near Harris, Minnesota often require specific maneuvering skills. At Pokegama Lake RV Park, one camper explains: "Our first site was beautiful and in the trees as requested but the site had our sewer uncomfortably in the front yard of the our new weekend neighbor who was already there. We gave the office a call and they set us up with a pull thru site just across the road without hesitation."
