North Bridgton sits at the northwestern edge of Long Lake in Maine, with elevations ranging from 300-400 feet above sea level. The area experiences warm summers with daytime temperatures typically reaching 75-85°F in July and August. Camping options span from traditional tent sites to upscale glamping accommodations with sites available from Memorial Day through mid-October at most campgrounds.
What to do
Swimming in Trickey Pond: The exceptionally clear water at Loon's Haven Family Campground provides excellent swimming conditions. "Great views of this quiet pond. Quiet campground with great campsite amenities. Has bathhouses which were clean. Lots of sites rented all summer. Great place to explore the area from. Boating options are amazing in the area," notes Peter F.
Kayaking on Long Lake: Rent kayaks or bring your own to explore the water. "We had a beautiful waterfront campsite (Site 113). The lake is gorgeous. Rocks make direct access to the water from the site difficult, but there is a beach for water access not too far away," explains Katie B. about her stay at Lakeside Pines Campground.
Hiking at Pleasant Mountain: Located 20 minutes from North Bridgton, this hiking destination offers moderate trails with scenic views. "Camping for the night before the hike to the summit of Pleasant Mountain! Beautiful campground, super friendly owners, amazing Saco River access, and crazy reasonable rates per night," shares Christopher K. from On the Saco Family Campground.
What campers like
Private, wooded sites: Many campgrounds offer secluded camping areas. "Each site has heavy evergreens in between allowing for nice privacy- and the grass tent site has that privacy too and were good sized. We stayed down in the sandier sites on the river lots of shade and privacy," reports Kristy B. about On the Saco Family Campground.
Weekend camping events: Acres of Wildlife Family Campground schedules themed weekends throughout the season. "Spent the weekend here for their Halloween weekend. So much to do at this campground! The only issue was Saturday night. Golf carts are available to rent but there was a lot that went buzzing by after quiet hours & kept us awake," notes Heather O.
Proximity to White Mountains: Campgrounds in the North Bridgton area serve as bases for White Mountain explorations. "You're within 30 minutes to White Mountain National Forest, which is gorgeous!" mentions Katie B. who camped at Lakeside Pines.
What you should know
Site spacing varies significantly: Some campgrounds offer more privacy than others. "Sites are very close together and hard to maneuver a RV into. Staff are wonderful and very nice. Place has flooded twice in five years. Internet extremely slow," cautions Melissa S. about Eastern Slope Camping Area.
Reservation timing: For waterfront sites, reservations should be made 3-6 months in advance for summer weekends. "We had a nice site mid week just before the 4th of July. My site was large and fit my large tent but it was clear that it can get muddy based on the deep tire tracks left on the site by a previous camper," shares Rebecca L. about Sebago Lake State Park.
