Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Fort Pierce, FL

Fort Pierce-Port St. Lucie KOA welcomes pets in tent sites, RV spaces, and cabins with full hookups. Treasure Coast RV Park provides a Kamp K9 dog park where pets can exercise off-leash, while Road Runner Travel Resort accommodates pets in both its RV sites and cabin accommodations. The typical campground layout at these parks includes level gravel sites with brick patio areas and picnic tables. Fort Pierce West KOA maintains a particularly clean dog park facility according to visitor reports. Campers note that tent areas at some KOA locations provide minimal privacy, essentially creating a lineup of sites without tree or bush coverage, which may affect comfort for pets and owners seeking more secluded settings.

Causeway Cove Marina and RV Park offers pet-friendly sites within walking distance of the Causeway beach, providing water-adjacent camping with opportunities for pet exercise. Large concrete pads at this marina-based campground give pets and owners plenty of space, with approximately 40-50 feet between neighboring sites. Savannas Recreation Area permits pets throughout the park's walking trails and camping areas. Most campgrounds enforce standard leash policies, and the proximity to local beaches provides additional exercise options. The Fort Pierce area experiences high occupancy during winter months when snowbirds arrive with their pets, making advance reservations essential for travelers with animals, particularly at popular locations like Treasure Coast RV Park which begins to thin out by the end of March.

    Fort Pierce-Port St. Lucie KOA

    Close to town and well-kept

General: Small family-run KOA campground (33 sites) located 1.5 miles north of Fort Pierce on Highway One. All sites are FHU with a combination of regular, premium, and extra-large sites. There is also a tent site area.

Site Quality: All sites are level and gravel with a fire pit and a brick patio area with a picnic table. Typical RV park layout with minimal to no privacy separating sites.

Bathhouse: Two unisex all-in-ones that were clean and air-conditioned. The shower had immediate hot water and good water pressure.

Activities/Amenities: There is a small playground and pet area plus a clean spacious laundry area. It is close to town. There is a manatee center and Navy Seal Museum (but we didn’t explore either one) close by in addition to shops and restaurants in Fort Pierce. I was able to enjoy a 3-mile run to town and back on sidewalks.

This campground was more expensive than we usually like to spend but it was a convenient location for us to have dinner with a family friend. We arrived after the office was closed so did not have any interaction with staff but our check-in paperwork was readily available. We appreciate that we were tucked in at the rear of the property which lessened the road noise (and we didn’t have neighbors on either side of us). I would rate this three stars for our purposes but as it was well-kept and for others may suit their needs, it merits four stars in general.

    Fort Pierce West KOA

KOA Resort Camping at its Finest?

If you are looking for an outdoors ‘nature’ experience that is well-manicured, perfectly organized and brand-spanking new – and you find yourself in Central Florida – then look no further than Fort Pierce West KOA Holiday, which is so close to I95 (exit 129 FL70 Okeechobee Road) that you will feel (and hear) the constant SWOOSH! of passing traffic 24 hours a day. This could either make this destination just outside of Fort Piece (a.k.a The Sunrise City) a gem or nightmare, depending upon what you are looking for.

While I’m sure the very great folks at this ‘Treasure Coast’ KOA would make room for tent campers, this destination is really geared towards those that are towing their campground living room behind them. There’s perfectly flat and evenly situated diagonal RV parking lanes with which to park your wheeled campground wherein you will enjoy traversing the entire campground on freshly poured black asphalt. Each pull-through or back-in evenly laid pebble-strewn site comes complete with a little swath of green grass, on-ground BBQ grill rings, picnic table and all the traditional hook-ups (50 / 20 / 30 electric, water and sewage).

But wait! There’s more (and because this is a KOA, that actually means, a LOT more!): complimentary WiFi, horshoe pit, Kamp K9 dog park, cable TV, endless neon-colored outdoor tables and chairs, community firepits, corn hole, ladder ball (don’t ask me), laundr-O-mat, library, shuffleboard, group picnic areas, pickleboard as well as being satellite friendly. There’s an absolutely gorgeous (too gorgeous IMHO for any campground, but hey, it’s KOA) in-ground heated pool as well as a small ‘catch& release’ pond that you can either fish from the perimeter of or drop in a little boat/ kayak. And, just in the event that you’ve forgotten anything, this KOA has an on-site camp store that would put Disney World to shame – there’s hats, shirts, tchotchkies and all of the food and drink items you would expect.

Insider’s tips? Here's a few: (1) There’s a lot to explore in and around Fort Pierce and a I highly recommend heading on over to Indian River Lagoon and Manatee Observation & Education Center for some excellent fishing and kayaking; (2) If you’re looking for a few restaurant recco’s – I’d steer you towards Manatee Island Bar & Grill, Sailfish Brewery and Jack & Diane’s (big nod to my hero John Cougar Mellancamp); (3) Of course, being this close to the ocean, you need to get yourself over to the beach where I would recommend a day-trip to Hutchinson Island, and if you’re toting your fishing poles with you head on over to Herman Bay for some excellent fishing and sundowners  where The Jetty Lounge is very well regarded; and (4) If you'd like to discover a really nice slice of paradise in close proximity to this KOA, then head no further than a few miles south to George Le Strange Preserve where there are a handful of really great hiking trails (all basic BTW), a very decent lake to do some decent fishing in as well as a small canoe launch.

    Happy Camping!

Causeway Cove Marina and RV Park

    Large sites

It's a marina with RV sites, not your typical RV park with a marina. The sites are large, so you're not 10 feet from your neighbor. There's probably more like 40 to 50 feet between the sites. The concrete pads are level, long, and wide. It's close to everything Fort Pierce has to offer. Some within walking distance. Keep in mind that this is a marina, so there's lots of boats and other RV'S in storage here. There's also the traffic associated with the marina. If you're a boater, then this is for you. If you're a resort type camper, this is probably not the place for you.

    Savannas Recreational Park

    Savannas Recreation Campground

This campground is a great value.  Several patrons appear to be snowbirds who are here for a month or more.  It is close to Fort Pierce and the beaches.  Wildlife include several bird species, some alligators, and some squirrels.  We enjoyed renting  a canoe for a couple hours.  Laundry facility and restrooms are clean.

The downside is that you are not allowed to select your own campsite.

Causeway Cove Marina and RV Park

    Location, location, location!

This is a newly updated marina with 10 RV sites that all have full hookups. The one downside is that there is very little shade and you probably won’t be able to open your awning due to the breeze (right on the water). There are boat, jet ski, and kayak rentals available right on site. The bathrooms are very well kept and updated. There are showers and laundry available for use. The nicest thing about this park is the location. Across the street is a beautiful beach right on the Fort Pierce Inlet. Perfect for kids. Very shallow and no current. Beautiful clean blue water. A few minutes east is Jetty Park. The jetty extends out past the inlet and it’s a very nice walk. There is plenty to do in the area and it is in close proximity to groceries and restaurants.

    Super chill place

Great place for a stop over. Needed a place to hangout for a few weeks. This place fit the bill. Dog park, little restaurant, general store, pool, basketball court and lots of shaded spots (my fave when in Florida) would definitely recommend.

Pine Grove Campground — Jonathan Dickinson State Park

Great for tents & RVs w fun surprises

Really had a fantastic time at this campground, I'm typically a tent camper and had great facilities. The cost of camping in Florida isn't cheap though this one actually had the value in it given that you could also rent boats and paddle up river alongside manatees to the wild man encampment. Amazing hiking nearby, the tower to check out, even a little mini museum with reptiles. I enjoyed it so much I would go back.

Management is a nightmare for long term. Save your trouble and go elsewhere

We sold our house in West Palm Beach and relocated to Vero Beach for work, choosing to stay in our RV at this park while awaiting our new home to be built. Initially, we were excited, but the management at this park turned out to be a nightmare. Despite the reasonable and straightforward rules, we faced constant harassment. We have two dogs that we walk multiple times a day. There are no trash cans or doggy bags on the property except in the dog park, so we took the initiative to buy an outdoor trash can and a bulk supply of dog waste bags to ensure we cleaned up after our pets. Yet, we received weekly notices accusing us of not cleaning up after our dogs. Each time I went to the main office to discuss these notices, I was told to“just ignore it” as it was likely a“pesty neighbor.” Additionally, when family visited us for the day and parked at our RV slot, we received notices about parking violations. After discussing this with the office, we were advised to have our visitors park in the lot by the restaurant, which we did. Despite this, we continued to receive notices for various infractions, such as improper water hookup and not stopping completely in the neighborhood. This felt like borderline harassment. As responsible adults who strive to follow regulations, we were perplexed and frustrated by these continuous and unfounded accusations. Each time we sought clarification from the office, they dismissed our concerns, blaming"nosey neighbors" and suggesting neighborly disputes were at play. Ultimately, we were given a 30-day notice to vacate the property. This experience is particularly disappointing because we had suggested this park for our upcoming family reunion, which would have brought 47 rentals for a week. Now, I can't wait to leave this place. For anyone considering a short-term stay, this park may suffice. However, I strongly advise against bringing pets unless you want to be harassed and falsely accused. For those seeking a long-term rental, avoid this park at all costs, as you will face weekly harassment. Furthermore, we had several packages confirmed as delivered to the“receptionist/front desk,” which mysteriously went missing, apparently mishandled by the staff. Our initial excitement to be part of the Road Runner community has completely dissipated. I am eager to leave and will never return. I do not recommend this park and will be warning others. 0/10.---

    Wonderful Park

We discovered this place on a vacation trip to see a friend on Hutchinson Island in Fort Pierce FL. We are now camping here seasonally in a 35 ft Class A RV. There's a large pool, a good-sized general / convenience store with all the essentials you might need, and a full restaurant right on site. The RV sites vary in size and set-up, most are level, most have a concrete patio. most have full hook-ups. There are also a number of "villas" (short, single-wide manufactured homes) that people either rent for an extended stay, or own, interspersed throughout the park. Many people live here year-round, and even more live here for three or six months during winter. There are 3 rustic cabins and a few spaces for tents. While this is billed as a "family" resort, most of the longer-term campers are retired, or "digital nomads" that work remotely. There are a few families with kids, and a few people like us who don't have children but are younger than retirement age. It's a good mix. There are adult activities - Bingo, karaoke, jam sessions, trivia night, pickleball, tennis, shuffleboard, Pentaque, cornhole, basketball, crafts (for adults), and more. Short stays are not cheap, but longer stays are pretty affordable considering the great pool and all there is to do. Oh, there are fireplaces at the premium pull-through sites, fires are allowed on regular sites only in a raised, enclosed firepit. There is also community firepit. We love it here.

Guide to Fort Pierce

Fort Pierce offers pet-friendly camping options along Florida's Treasure Coast, with temperatures averaging 83°F in summer and 63°F in winter. The area combines inland freshwater marshes with coastal access, creating diverse environments for camping with pets. Several campgrounds provide dedicated dog areas and accommodate various camping styles from tents to RVs.

What to do

Canoe the marshlands: Savannas Recreational Park offers canoe rentals for exploring the unique marsh ecosystem with your pet. "I almost didn't want to review this amazing place. I wanted to keep it a secret. If you like kayaking and uniquely Florida nature, this is it. This is paradise. List marshlands with twists and cuts for paddling. Birds you never knew existed. Great fishing. And of course, alligators," notes Amanda K. from her visit.

Visit the beaches: Located within walking distance of Causeway Cove Marina and RV Park, the Causeway beach is perfect for pet exercise. "Across the street is a beautiful beach right on the Fort Pierce Inlet. Perfect for kids. Very shallow and no current. Beautiful clean blue water. A few minutes east is Jetty Park," shares Doug B.

Explore hiking trails: The natural areas provide excellent walking opportunities for you and your pet. "The Savanna's campground is just a few miles up the road from our home and a great place for a quick last minute weekend outing. The park is beautiful. There are trails to bike or walk along the nature preserve," reports Lora S. about her experience at Savannas Recreational Park.

What campers like

Spacious sites: Many pet owners appreciate the large camping spaces available. "The sites are roomy, easy to get in, level, and the entire park is manicured! This is a great place to spend the winter season and easy to make friends," says Nancy S. about her stay at Treasure Coast RV Park.

Cleanliness: Campers consistently mention the well-maintained facilities. "Clean facilities, everything works, staff is wonderful. Walking distance to Publix, restaurants, Old-Town. Kind of a surprise, right on highway 1, but we felt comfortable, had good privacy," notes Christine about Fort Pierce-Port St. Lucie KOA.

Pet amenities: Multiple campgrounds feature dedicated pet facilities. "The park is always kept clean. I noticed on this trip several picnic tables have been replaced which happened to be my one complaint in the past. Playground area was being update with all new equipment," writes Mike Y. about his fourth stay at Savannas Recreation Area.

What you should know

Wildlife awareness: Be vigilant about local wildlife when camping with pets. "WARNING!!! Please be careful walking your dog. Alligators are in the park where people seem to not notice. We educated people when we were there. They thought that just because they were not on the water side of the campground they would not see alligators," cautions Annell N.

Seasonal occupancy: The Fort Pierce area experiences significant seasonal variations. "Winter months hard to get a spot," advises Mike Y. about Savannas Recreational Park. Planning ahead is essential, especially when traveling with pets.

Noise considerations: Some campgrounds may be affected by nearby highways. "If you are looking for an outdoors 'nature' experience that is well-manicured, perfectly organized and brand-spanking new – and you find yourself in Central Florida – then look no further than Fort Pierce West KOA Holiday, which is so close to I95 (exit 129 FL70 Okeechobee Road) that you will feel (and hear) the constant SWOOSH! of passing traffic 24 hours a day," explains Stuart K.

Tips for camping with families

Water activities: The region offers excellent water-based recreation. "Awesome location for birds and wildlife. I've stopped here a few times heading across Florida camping etc. nearby town makes supplying easy," shares Anjuli W. about Savannas Recreational Park.

Tent camping considerations: For families tent camping with pets, note that some areas provide limited privacy. "Tent area is a big open grass field, no shade trees. No water or electric on site but is available at nearby pavilion. This is close to home and convenient for us. Rented canoe, went fishing and for a hike. Family enjoyed our 2 nights there," explains Bonnie S. about her experience at Savannas.

Multiple recreation options: Road Runner Travel Resort provides extensive facilities for families with pets. "Great place for a stop over. Needed a place to hangout for a few weeks. This place fit the bill. Dog park, little restaurant, general store, pool, basketball court and lots of shaded spots (my fave when in Florida) would definitely recommend," says Suzanne D.

Tips from RVers

Full hookup details: Most campgrounds in the Fort Pierce area offer comprehensive services. "The sites have full hook ups a fire pit and a picnic table on them. I recommend this as a great weekend getaway," states Lora S. about her experience at Savannas Recreational Park.

Site selection: RVers with pets recommend considering site location carefully. "We are looking forward to coming back for an extended stay later this winter!! Great facilities including a pool, tennis courts, shuffle board, a chip and put golf course, a store, and more!" shares Mitchell about Road Runner Travel Resort.

Marina access: Pet-friendly camping with water access presents unique opportunities. "It's a marina with RV sites, not your typical RV park with a marina. The sites are large, so you're not 10 feet from your neighbor. There's probably more like 40 to 50 feet between the sites. The concrete pads are level, long, and wide," notes David S. about his stay at Causeway Cove Marina and RV Park.
