Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Thonotosassa, FL

Beautiful park! Clean, quiet, large private spaces, and nice bath facilities. Be advised that there is only one section thst allows pets and limited areas that pets are allowed but has a nice dog beach and off leash dog park.

This is one of the best parks anywhere. It’s not a National Park surrounding a national treasure but it might as well be. The park has three loops. All have waterfront sites and inner loop sites. One is set up for tents, folding campers and small teardrop style trailers. One is conducive to big rigs but it’s a tight fit and one handles all, but allows pets. There’s lots of wildlife, particularly raccoons. A short drive or bike ride from the campground lands you at the old fort, or a ferry to Egmont Key for the day, or a beach with a view of Tampa Bay and the Skyway bridge, or the amazing north beach which has been listed several times as the best beach in America. It’s a truly gorgeous park. Kayaking, SUP, dog parks, dog beach as well as coyote, rattlesnakes, amazing shore birding, white pelicans, eagles, ospreys, roseates, manatees, dolphins... hard to get reservations but well worth it.
Our return to this park year after year resulted in us building a home in the area for our endless summer adventures.

Sites were small, Service was friendly, Okay amenities- small pool, dog ‘park’ was a tiny walking area. Expensive considering location and amenities.

This is probably the largest park we have ever stayed in. We normally go for the smaller quaint parks but we decided to try it out. We went along the outside rim in site Mako 7. The sites are large enough and have most have full hook ups. Not many trees for shade, but it is in Florida so that is to be expected. We were fortunate to have a couple of grassy areas around close to walk the dog. There is a dog park but it was on the other end of the campground. We did go one day and the park is nice. It’s sand and has poop bags. But no water for drinking so take your own. This side of the park had more trees and was nice for walking around with the dog. No WiFi in the area closest to the dog park. Sites seemed mostly level but only the new section has nice concrete pads. The older sections are hit and miss as to what the site looks like. All in all it’s a great location for visiting all the local attractions... (but we didn’t do that).

This campground was adequate and very close to I-4. Sites are accommodating and clean. Pool and restaurant on site. If you have a dog they have a couple of dog parks on site buy I would recommend sites 36, 37 or 38. Large grass area for your own private dog area.

Immaculate grounds, clean and modern bath houses, three laundry rooms. Very dog friendly with doggy bag stations and dog parks. Right on the bayou with a kayak launch and docks for fishing and relaxing. We like it so much that we made it our home base for our travels.

I absolutely loved the MacDill FamCamp. It’s right by the beach and marina. There’s a small dog beach and two dog parks. Laundry facilities are centrally located. Cable is included. I recommend bringing a Verizon hotspot or stopping at spectrum and getting a WiFi plan. cellular service is not great, especially for data.

Long sites mostly waterfront. A dog friendly section and a no dog area. A nice little store. The park includes access to miles of beaches, a top 10 in the USA dog park, a dog beach, free fishing piers. Bicycle, hiking and exercise trails. A washer and dryer at every restroom. A playground. This park has it all. Every Friday they release 10% of their sites for the next week. It is a very popular park for good reason. There are low branches to watch for and some curbs that are a parking nuisance.

The campsite was nice. The dog park was nice. The pool was nice but had ALOT of frogs that didn’t make it… I was told there was a turtle found once so look before you enter, they do clean it very often though! Very close to Walmart! I even had a package delivered here!

We have camped at Fort DeSoto many times with our 38” travel trailer. The campground is clean but could use some tree trimming. The spots we have rented we kind of tight for our side trailer and our large truck. The branches are low so watch out! The neighbors are very close. We are used to larger campsites where we can spread out. Overall the campground is tightly packed but clean and convenient. Fort DeSoto Park and beach are a five minute drive. Our dogs loved the dog beach and the dog park. Very nice bike trails also.

This park was okay, but we were at the front and the road noise was bad. Lots of sirens and traffic. It was noticeably quieter at the back of the campground. Roads are really narrow. We were told they didn't pick up trash at the site and the only dumpster was at the opposite end of the park, which was a bit inconvenient. Wifi was really good and cable worked well. The dog park was adequate and my dog enjoyed it. I probably wouldn't stay here again just cause of the price and road noise. We camped at Clearwater/ Lake Tarpon KOA Holiday in a Fifth Wheel.

What a beautiful well kept facility near suburbia. Just a short drive from Tampa and Lakeland areas this first come first served facility is a favorite of locals. Full service for RV's (even a dump station. Clean, monitored bathroom facilities close to lots of additional activities! Kayaking and fishing on the lake is a blast! Frisbee Golf (this is an advanced course) equestrian and hiking trails, picnic and playground areas. Pet friendly but there were more than a few stray cats when we were there (a problem the rangers are trying to address). Midweek is best time to visit as weekends fill fast (usually by Thursday night)

We were trying to find a place near Ruskin kind of last minute, they had an available spot.We were literally in our neighbors yard.We needed to stay longer to finish rv repairs,ended up staying 5+ months.there are alot of nice people there,but alot of full-time residents. From our experience there were several cliques which is not our thing,nice pool,nice dog park, they have alot of activities (bingo,cornhole,pickleball).they are doing cosmetic upgrades, but need infrastructure upgrades (low water pressure, several electric outages)

I can’t say enough about how nice this campground is. The folks working here are so overwhelmingly helpful. They will even fill your propane tank for you. The laundromat is impeccable and cost is reasonable at $2.00 to wash and $1.50 to dry. They have gourmet ice cream in the office! The lots are graveled and level. The roads are free of pits and east to navigate. The lots are more spacious than at most places. There is a dog park, too. No litter here. Not even a cigarette butt! We will be back!

I live local and have been staying here in the pull through area a month until I transition to 100% travel trailer life. I have 2 50 lb+ dogs and there are many other people with dogs, plus a dog park. Park is very well kept, beautiful gym, pool, hot tub, and private island on backside to fish and other games like horseshoes. Love this place! Maintenance is A M A Z I N G!!!!!!!! I will be staying here again for short and extended periods and feel more than comfortable to recommend to friends and family. Laundry facilities and bathrooms are fine too. Dryers dry a full load of towels in one cycle, was pretty impressive! Also plenty of area to ride a bike a couple times around the park. It is also close to gas, grocery store and really good restaurants. Two thumbs up!!!

The Rv resort wasn’t to bad, except the front desk people were not very friendly and very short with me... I walked in and they told me to shhhhh because because another co worker was on the phone. I was just asking to check in. The Hudson area of Florida wasn’t the best it was a little sketchy. The bathrooms were okay, the laundry rooms were reasonably priced, and our favorite thing about the park was the dog park. Didn’t use the pool.

Also when we arrived our spot was next to a mobile permanent home and we couldn’t find our hook ups. The mobile home owners were trying to say there was none and expected us to just move spots without telling the front desk. The workers came and the neighbor had cover up the spot in the gras for the sewer and then acted like he didn’t. So that was a little frustrating.
